SEGA teases Bayonetta + Steam, countdown to April 11

We got Sonic World with the Nintendo content removed, couldn't we get Bayonetta 2 without the Nintendo costumes or is there much more than that on the game?

Basically, Nintendo owns the whole game. They would have to completely remake it from scratch to release it elsewhere.

Do you even know what we were discussing along this line in the first place? I suggest you to trace back the posts.

Yes, you felt a countdown clock linked to a Steam achievement could mean something completely unrelated to PC, like a Nintendo Amiibo.

If people on PC really want to play Bayo 2, there's always CEMU (for that matter they could also play Bayo 1 that way, but native is generally better on PC than emulated), so I wouldn't worry about them missing out too much.

Yup, got mine out of storage a few weeks past, 4k/60 is already possible but they need to fix the audio issues and then I'm ready :3

Right, but then it's pretty clear SEGA don't care about PC users and their experiences, since PC gamers won't be able to finish the series.

It will be pretty bad for PC gamers to play the first Bayonetta and then never play Bayonetta 2 because it's never ever coming to PC.

Because everyone plays Character Action Games for the story and not the gameplay

They'd better not be joking. This has been the most anticipated port in my life. I'm not even sure if 2017 could handle this.

From Sega on Facebook:

For shame, Sega...

I really do hope that Sega releases actual Bayonetta on Steam, though. Surely Sega can't be that dickish...right?

Clearly they are not, with the website hidden in the achievements on Steam, clearly showing a countdown for 11th April. We know it's bayo related from being derived from the Steam achievements, using the number associated with Bayonetta's watch, image from the first game etc. Regardless of what it is, it will be Bayo related, most likely Steam related. With all that in mind, chances are it is a port (at a big stretch a sequel). You can argue it isn't and that it's an anime or movie or some other thing, but Sega are most likely aware of what they are doing and the upset that would be caused to do this kind of joke towards a community that are actively chasing them for such a game. Highly unlikely that it isn't a game.

Ah, I forgot about the countdown. It'll be nice to see the original Bayonetta on Steam if that's what the countdown is definitely leading up to.

Wait, watch number? What watch number? I know you're probably talking about the watch from Bayo 2, but I don't remember any specific number being part of that.

I have to say that I would be more hyped for a Vanquish port, actually.
Having played Bayonetta on two different consoles (Xbox 360 and Wii U) was enough to satiate my appetite for the game.

Nontheless I still look forward to a PC port of Bayonetta.
I would gladly triple dip. But hopefully not at full price. 30€ or bust.

I mean I bought a 360 only for playing bayonetta and if they port 1&2 collection to switch then I will instantly buy the new console.

Anyway on the topic I hope it is true, high resolution and frame rate will lead mavelous experience to the alreay great game.

If you want to play with no sound, sure.

Bayo 2's in the same legal situation as Ninja Gaiden Black (hence the Sigma thing), so basically turning it into an entirely new title would skirt most of the restrictions on it (...like the Sigma thing).

Unfortunately, nope. I looked at the copyright for NG1 and 2, and there's nothing there to suggest MS had any rights to either of the actual games.

Bayo, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns.

Make it happen.

I'd love Anarchy Reigns to happen but it will likely never happen.
Sales failure, and sent to die in the west by Sega. What a shame.

Vanquish has been one of the most asked for Sega PC ports I think, so hopefully... Needs it more than Bayo 1.

What the fuck is it with gaming companies on april fools announcing stuff that people would actually really like, only to JK LOL in your face. :(

I'm in on whatever form this takes. Steam port of the first game? Hell yeah. New game is doubtful for sure, but having a Bayonetta with scaling resolution and stable framerate would be fucking amazing. Don't let me down Sega!

I hope not. I thought the joke was they announced Bayo on steam but it was actually an 8 bit game. So they are teasing something more huh

The achievements pictures had an URL in it leading to Sega's site that has a countdown that end on April 11th. Probably Steam announcement.

Sega would need to buy the rights to the game code from Nintendo. Unlikely, but that happened before.

It would probably be cheaper to just redo the game.

There are more nuances to the whole thing than that, really. Even if we know nothing of what went on behind the scenes, we know that Sega can't release the game that was playable on Wii U without Nintendo approval, but without Sega that code is dead weight to Nintendo too. It also wouldn't necessarily involve the rights to the code changing hands, they could license it for a PC-exclusive release in return for some Sonic game or whatever.

But at the end of the day this is all Sega EU, so unless the PC port of the first game is some wild, crazy success (which... maybe? They could get lucky thanks to NieR's fantastic recent word of mouth) it most likely won't even enter discussion stages, let alone surmount the many obstacles to follow.

Best thing about this port is that I'll be able to do something about Bayo1's hideous color palette. I usually don't like to fuss around with Reshade and shit, but I'll be making an exception here.

Dunno about all their games, but I checked the copyright on the original releases of Psychonauts and Brutal Legend and their name is first, not Majesco or EA.

It doesn't matter whose name comes first. They still had to buy the rights back to Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. This is known.

p.s. Bayo 2 isn't happening. The picture in the website is from Bayo 1. That says enough.

Publishing rights, they obviously had to buy back. The rights to the game itself, I'd need to see proof of that.

Why do we assume we know what deal was going on between Sega and Nintendo? It's still a Sega IP, no? We don't know under what conditions they let Nintendo use it.

Nintendo's name is first in the copyright text, which unless explicitly stated otherwise, *generally* means that the entity listed first holds the rights to the game itself, not merely publishing rights.

First, I'm not familiar with copyright law, so forgive my ignorance, but can you link me to a place that specifies that the first entity listed holds the right?

Second even if Nintendo owns the game, Sega still owns the IP, which I'd think mean Nintendo couldn't do much with the game without Sega's approval, so I'm sure it's in both parties interest to reach some agreement. Not that I'm saying I believe this will happen, but I don't think it's quite as unlikely as some are making it to be.

It is not in Nintendo's interest to have this game appear on other platforms. It's like the Goldeneye deal, but with even less chances to change.

The Goldeneye deal especially makes no sense, they've never done anything with it. Sucks they've got it locked down wasting away.
