I know it's a stretch but has a metal console ever launched?
I'm guessing you don't have a 4k display with HDR?
Higher resolutions give rise to better view distance, ultra textures look incredible, not to mention the colour achieved. I'm not even technical but I can see the difference where games have been designed to take advantage of these features. Progress has to be made somewhere.

Blame the devs not the console makers. They can do whatever they want with the power.i do have a 4k set, wasted money upgrading FOR the pro, but honestly, at the 8 ft or so i sit from it i don't really consider the difference large enough to say it's a good use of the additional power, not by a long shot. and looking at a native 4k image and a PRO checkerboard image on the same set it is impossible to notice at that distance too. HDR is ok. but i find it overly contrasted and more of unrealistic image than that of one without.
but lets put it this way, i'd notice a game having higher poly assets, higher resolution textures and better quality effects, screen space reflection, volumetrics or shadows running at 1080p more-so than i would a game that was just the exact same 1080p game at 4k. i mean, 1080p scales nicely on a 4k set and unless i get right up close to the thing it's not a particularly discernible difference.
it all just feels like some forced push for 4k when there really isn't any sort of demand for it. both sony and MS catering to a market so small it may as well not even be there. which seems utterly pointless to me. i mean, jesus we're in a gen where we're miles away from even consistently meeting a 1080/60 standard. maybe we should have stuck with making that a reality before jumping face first into 4k?
Think you're confusing cboat with ntkrnl. Cboat was overly negative and even was wrong about things. My was the one with the pre E3 blowoutI always thought Phil Spencer was Cboat. Xbox One needed that leaked hype more than ever back then.

Well, when I say blame, it's not really their fault. It's a benefit vs cost sorta thing.
I agree, KORNdoggy is right too. Vastly improved effects such as textures and shadows far more apparent. If developers can meet a happy medium where they can utilise this additional power for fidelity while upping resolution at the same time we would be making real progress.
I think Horizon is an excellent example of a game looking incredibly at the highest setup ie Pro/HDR set.

For me, the real difference has been HDR on my OLED. I would love for games to use HDR and textures and shadows as you say. That would be a marked improvement in my mind.
Because of this, I'm more hyped for potential single player / co-op games than twitch shooters.
It does seem odd that this hasn't been announced. Maybe the announcement will be Thursday for a later date?
It's also a bit strange to let a 3rd party reveal the specs. Though that does give some verification to them so it doesn't leave unanswered questions. Like "Forza 7 looked great but was it actually running on a Scorpio dev kit?"
Something small like this is best though I think. There isn't enough info for any kind of full event without pulling stuff out of E3, which needs to be great for them

If the specs are good it will be a nice bit of info and a good teaser to start the hype machine in the run up to E3.
Does the Commodore CDTV count?I know it's a stretch but has a metal console ever launched?
Gimme a nice gunmetal pair finish![]()
Thursday. I believe was mentioned. Is there a date for this or do i have to get up hoping every day?
Thursday. I believe was mentioned.
Spoiler: FM7 is going to run at a locked 4k60.
My tech knowledge is pretty limited on this kind of thing, but what kind of HDD can we expect on this?
all this talk of fps and resolution i'd like a decent cut on load times too : )

What is it we dont know about Scorpio really?
8 core cpu, most likely jaguar/ puma
6 tflop gpu
12 gb gddr5
what more is there to know?
An 8 core ryzen costs about as much as an entire Scorpio so that would be pretty insane and too good to be true IMO.
Can't wait to see the game but I hope it'll will not be held back by the base XB1. Scorpio should be able to handle dynamic weather and dynamic TOD but would it be too much for the XB1 "version"?
I'm really curious how devs are going to handle Scorpio 1080p vs 4K.
If the dev goes full 4K with the game, that is going to take up a lot of Scorpio's power. For 1080p, if they take that unused power and go balls out, we could end up with a scenario that the 1080p is actually the better game graphically sans resolution. I'm not sure that's what MS is looking for since they are pushing 4K. Am I wrong here?

That's why you have different game modes like rise of the tomb raider on ps4 pro.
The white paper already mentioned devs are not forced to push for 4K

Can someone summarize the thread so far please?

Say goodbye to your "gens" then as you probably will not see those type of switches anymore at least with Microsoft. Thats what all this Backward Compatibility , Forward Compatibility, Xbox Play Anywhere, Game Pass and Universal Windows Platform is about: That you can take your game catalog/backlog over to the successor of a console and still able to play it.
