Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

think this will be a pretty weak e3 year for sony
not sure what new exclusives they can have from their 1st parties, gow4 and tlou2 already announced

We heard the same last year, just saying. If Sony didn't have anything for E3 they would not have shown TLOU 2 at PSX.

So many games I haven't cared that E3 is coming up.
First time in a while.
Wonder how Sony will manage new and old. Feels so weird that something like TLOU2 wasn't saved for E3.

I hope they start with something unannounced again. The last two years have both started with two unannounced games (I'm counting The Last Guardian as one). I hope they do the same thing again, starting with Sucker Punch's game and then something from From Software (whether it's Bloodborne 2 or a new IP).

Every year we go through the whole "Sony has nothing new to show." Which is good, the best stuff to show is the unexpected. Pixelopus and SP are good/ safe bets.
Wonder if Sony London's only been doing VR, or if they have a console game.

Weak how? They don't really need to announce new titles this year. God of War and Spider-man alone will be huge.

I'm thinking the first game has to be something gamers have a history with. TLG was on everyone's mind for 6 years by the time of the rereveal and GOW is GOW. Also, I don't think they give this spot to anything but a console exclusive. So with all that being considered, there's not many options.

Except A FromSoft X Japan game. Dosent have to be BB2. There's a history there and it's something the audience will connect w/ immediately

I welcome the "Sony will have nothing". It just makes their shows all the more better when it is all said and done.

Going back to pre-E3 last year. God of War concept art leaked around March and was confirmed real by insiders. It wasn't completely confirmed, but there was like a 99% chance of it being at E3. I don't remember hearing much about Sony Bend pre-E3, but we knew they were pretty deep into development so them showing up wasn't a huge surprise. The Last Guardian and Horizon: Zero Dawn were obviously going to show up. Detroit wasn't as obvious but it had by far the best presentation of any David Cage game at E3. Resident Evil 7 was the biggest surprise last year. Most people assumed another mainline game was in development, but very few thought they would revamp the series like they did. The January release date topped the surprise of the reveal. The Spider-Man game was heavily rumored, although the thought was made by Sucker Punch and not Insomniac. It being there, again, not a major surprise.

Every year there's very few out-of-no-where surprises. It ultimately comes down to how everything is presented and last year Sony's was presented fantastically.

I'd argue a lot of people didn't expect Spiderman. To a lot of people it seemed like a fake rumor, there really wasn't a lot of weight to the rumor. Most people didn't think a Spiderman game would be exclusive, especially if made by Insomniac.

Spider-Man was leaked a day or two beforehand, though I think only one person guessed Insomniac were the devs. Like unknownstranger said, everyone assumed Sucker Punch were behind it.

We knew basically what Bend were working on, "Dead Don't Ride", a post-apocalyptic open world game where you play as a biker. I can't remember exactly how we found those details out but Shinobi did bring it up a bunch of times (though he did get the name wrong, as he insisted Dead Don't Ride would be its name).

But yeah, no-one knew RE7 was coming, let alone that it had been right underneath our noses as The Kitchen PSVR demo for like a year by that point. It was a masterfully done reveal.

The one reveal you two seem to have forgotten is Death Stranding. We knew Kojima was working with Sony on something but I don't think anyone realistically thought it'd be announced that early.

It's funny that the name Dead Don't Ride was even being considered, because that conjures a very different image to what they are clearly going for than Days Gone. Unless it was a red herring to deliberately misinform leakers.

Actually Spider-Man was leaked 1-2 months before E3 by Nerdleaks/motion capture actor resume. So we had months of people speculating that it was Sucker Punch's next game, hell even I thought it was sealed deal.

Man I remember the second Insomniac's logo came up in that trailer I was legitimately shocked, probably even more than the RE7 reveal.

I think made people mistrust the leak was the fact that it was titled "Spider-man PS4", it was kinda hard to believe Disney/Marvel would have allowed one of their most popular franchise to made into a videogame only to come out on a single console.

Sony can pursue all they want but they can't force From to make more Bloodborne. What if From wants to work on something else?

Devs lie all the time but I don't think we'll see any kind of Souls game for a while
From is now owned by Kadokawa who has a very good relationship with Sony. If Kadokawa says more Souls then more Souls will be coming right now.

Not that I'm expecting Sony to force the issue. They've realized the value of Marquee studios. If Miyazaki wants to do something weird, they'll let him go nuts just for the sake of flashing 'FromSoftware exclusive' on their E3 screens.

I welcome the "Sony will have nothing". It just makes their shows all the more better when it is all said and done.
Agreed.
That Scorpio thread is fucking nuts, I'll tell ya what.
I've honestly been too terrified to even poke my head in there.

When you have people like Senjutsu sage saying that Scorpio can run Horizon Zero Dawn at 4K in 60FPS its best to just close the thread and never come back.

Was coming in to mention that we did know a little about Days Gone before E3 last year

Yeah, when I first heard Dead Don't Ride, I was expecting Mad Max with zombies (I was so very disappointed to find out that it wasn't lol)

But yeah, Days Gone is a way more fitting title than Dead Don't Ride (imo).

Can I have some context for this

I looked this up on Google and I'm still confused

The irony being that they don't have any games anywhere near as exciting as Horizon to run at 4K, rendering the more powerful hardware almost pointless without exciting original software to show it off.

They are just 200 people now?? I thought they are around 300~350 people(must have some wrong info or confusing them with other)

Probably 200 game devs. Naughty Dog also develops a great deal of Sony'r proprietary PlayStation tech so it wouldn't surprise me if they employ a lot of folks that don't really touch the games.

ICE team...

Also, the Scorpio thread isn't bad guys, Xbox fans are excited about new tech, and it's good hardware. Basically a Super Pro. Some of the more hardcore really appreciate playing with the best possible visuals and of course current and b/c games getting a visual/performance boosts. It's a good day for Xbox fans.

Yeah it's exciting times indeed.

LOL What is the story behind this video? Obviously some kind of event but its still hilarious. Also the execs at Sony seem like they're a lot more easy going and down to Earth than a lot out there and really know how to have a good time haha

Its the temporary closing of the old Sony building which will get replaced by Sony park. There were a bunch of events for the entire month.

Metal Wolf Chaos 2: The Cheetoh Fuhrer. Its a co-op title where the mechs are piloted by Obama and Biden as they fight to take back the US of A!

It's still absolutely mind boggling to me that From released an exclusive Xbox game... but only in Japan.

Like, I loved that game but I never got that last part.

As someone who wasn't posting here last E3, the only thing I knew about was God of War because of the leaked concept art pics. But even then, I didn't know if they were legitimate or not. Had no idea Days Gone and Spider-Man were things. Had no idea about the Crash remake. I really enjoyed not knowing things.

I enjoy posting here, but shit, I wonder if I can avoid any pre-E3 spoilers. xD~~

You can not unless u do like I just said and avoid gaming side. In big capital letters the rumor will be in the titles, rumors will be in here and any other thread focusing on whichever platform the rumor is from lol.

Since we know that Ninja Theory is working on 4 projects including Hellblade...

What if Sony announces Heavenly Sword 2?!? That would be a dream announcement for me. Year of Dreams 3!! Let's do this!!

I want Ninja Theory to do a Marvel game, along with something published by Sony.

Heavenly Sword 2, Enslaved 2, DmC 2. I'm cool with any sequel from them... I'm cool with any game from them period.

I'd actually be all for Heavenly Sword fully adopting the old God of War style: fixed camera, amazing visuals. I feel like the new GoW will be great, but I still enjoy the old formula when done well.

Heavenly Sword and War of the Monsters are my PlayStation dream sequels. I'd be shocked to ever see either of them return... but I do think Heavenly Sword is possible. Unlike my beloved Monsters :'(
