Dragon Quest 11 releasing July 29th in Japan for 3DS and PS4

I pointed out that Nintendo's fiscal forecast mentioned only 3DS version and ppl here almost killed me. :(
(I think when coming to West we will see all versions at the same time though).

Some people want to believe anything in their head, and ignore all logic or reality.

How is it dumb? It's not like they've had devkits for long.
Because releasing a port late never turns out bad for that port's sales. /s
Western indies got devkits in January, Square probably got them last year. Porting Unreal 4 games to Switch isn't too massive of an ordeal either, Snake Pass was up and running in a week and the port was completed in about 3 months. DQXI is a much bigger game, but Square also has a lot longer to port it and they are much bigger. Square also made a lot of money with DQ on the 3DS and the 3DS is on its way out, this is probably the last major DQ for the system and the series is not going to push numbers on the PS4 like it did on 3DS so it's in their best interest to help keep the Switch's sales strong and build the RPG player base as early as they can.

Really doubt anything of this caliber will be on ds in 2018/9.

Pretty good event overall.

Gonna get the PS4+3DS versions with the Japanese release and the Switch version if/when it's released in English.

So they didn't mention the Switch version at the event at all?

BUT I WAS TOLD I WAS A NO BRAINER!

If it's launching later, i suppose they wouldn't want to actively advertise or talk about it if they feel it could affect the launch sales of these two.

Wait for launch then a few weeks later start talking about it?

Either that or it's being announced in the Direct tomorrow as a surprise ending reveal.

Definitely in for the PS4 version. The 3DS version I might get later or if they release that in the US, I'll get it in then.

PS4 version is hitting all of my DQX weakpoints. I can't wait to explore the game world like that.

It's just not ready and they are focusing on shipping on the originally announced platforms first. Fans have waited long enough. The only people who actually expected this on the Switch day and date are fanboys who want to add another big title to a list to fight console wars. It's obvious what's going on to everyone else.

But snake pass only took 7 days to port ;)

I only want the 3DS version. The UE4 version looks like lifeless dolls.

I'll import the former, I don't expect it launching in the west.

I'm sad the Switch version will not come out at the same time as the others as I would rather play the UE4 version and don't have a PS4 anymore. Would also be a perfect time and game for me to buy the Switch.
But it was obvious, really.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

In the end, you were right duckroll, I must concede it to you and to all the others who said it wouldn't have been released at the same time.

It would have been far better if Horii never stated he wanted to release all versions at the same time, now there's going to be doom everywhere because Switch is fucked, DEBACLE, DISASTER (see Aostia for example elsewhere). Since that's not discussion, but the worst kind of trash, it's better for me to leave for a while, but I wanted to state the record clear at least.

It was announced for "NX" on the same day as it was first shown for PS4 and 3DS. I don't know why you're so offended by people wanting it to come out for Switch at the same time. Not everything is about "fanboys", some people just want to play the game on their new system, others just want to see the Switch do well.

Takashi Mochizuki from WSJ asked about Switch version.

Response was basically "It's still planned, but we have nothing to announce today"

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Looks good, but it's lifeless compared to Ni no Kuni II.

I dunno but I had more fun playing DQVIII than Ni no Kuni.

Ni no Kuni is pretty... and pretty boring.

I'm still amused that Square-Enix is basically making the same game three times in three different ways.

The saying goes "you can't please everyone" and yet that's basically what they set out to do, and in a a pretty inventive way honestly.

I'm not "offended" I'm disappointed when people who are otherwise rational and decently smart lose all ability to see something for what it is because they "want" something. This isn't about what people want, it's about what was obviously happening. The Switch version isn't ready, all the marketing was on the 3DS and PS4 versions. It wasn't going to happen and people shouldn't set themselves up for disappointments by expecting things which were never explicitly promised.

I hope y'all baka gaijins arent hoping to buy the 3DS version in the west. If I had to bet I'd say we will get the PS4 version but not the 3DS one.

Its not a wish. Its a prediction.

To be fair it was clear Horii was pretty much always talking about PS4/3DS versions releasing at the same time from the context of his interviews. We haven't seen a single frame of Switch footage, so this results is to be expected.

Also the discussion to be had about Switch is a worthwile one as now a big 3rd party game is confirmed to be a late-port and not a day-an-date release. Now mind you, I don't think it will change much when it comes to Switch's sales potential or trajectory it is worthwhile to mention it anyway. At the very least the DQXI Switch sales will probably be more limited.

Burrying your head in the sand when things don't go your way (or your system's way) is also not a great habit to have, btw.

It was Saito, he on hype that day.

And everybody did believe him :p

If they added animations on sprites then it may compete with SFC DQ6 (I still think that was one of the best). Even without that sprite version may become the most time-efficient version.

I'll get the 3DS version and then the Switch version when that gets released. Honestly though I'm more hyped for the 2d version. Ps4 and presumably Switch version just looks boring to me.

You're talking down to people who wanted it on Switch on the same day, calling them fanboys. We know that Switch devkits have been around the block since long before indies got them in January, Square was likely one of the first to get them and even had a port ready for launch and had footage for an entirely original title ready for the Switch's blowout in January. There's no reason they should be able to at least show the Switch version of the game and since they've likely had devkits for at least 6 months there is no reason to think that it would be impossible for them to have the Switch version ready for July.
