Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

I would say Bayonetta 1 had the better combat system. It had more variety overall.
For example there were more diverse punishing moves and the whip had more options than
Alrauna. Torture attacks were also more diverse and creative.

A Bayonetta 3 needs to happen to fix one of the major flaws of the series: I want more encounters with lots of room and your full arsenal of moves being a viable solution.
The majority of mini-bosses and bosses kinda reduces your movelist by default (winged fights in bayo2). The fights against human enemies (or slightly bigger) shows the true beauty of the game.

Bayo 2 is better at combat.

It isn't. Forcing Umbran Climax and lowering combo damage is stupid not to mention tons of enemies that can break your combo to promote gameplay "diversity" for some reason. They weapon variants are the best thing about that game.

Holy cow how did I miss this?

I would be waiting for a sale if it were $40. But at $20, this is a no brainer purchase.
Vanquish next plzkthnx.

So I just played this for about one hour and I have to say, I'm enjoying it so much more on PC.

I've already tried to play this game before on 360 and Wii U but the horrible resolution and the frequent frame drops made it super difficult for me to identify enemy attack wind-ups amidst the flurry of special effects and enemy groups. It was all a mishmash of pixels and I just couldn't see shit. Bayonetta 2 was much more lenient, enemy wind-ups felt longer and also had these super bright, very obvious red flashes.

Native 4k and locked 60 and It's like I suddenly have eagle eyes. So much for "graphics don't affect gameplay". I'm having an absolute blast.

Execution is obviously challenging.

Then the punching bag analogy is flawed, in either scenario there's an active onus on the player to continue to engage. I'm not sure why something like score is any less worthy of a meaningful challenge than an human opponent's life bar, especially when you actually break it down mechanically, there's essentially no actual distinction.

It was about time, strange that there is no next gen console version though....lets see how things progress on that one..

The game using DX9 instead of DX11 may be an indicative that a ONE/PS4 port is not planned, but if it sells good they will surely do as with Valkyria Chronicles.

Looks like this game didn't have any (or one weak) protection because is already cracked and on torrent.. Is this a record?

The only DRM Sega uses in most games is just Steam IIRC.

That means nothing.

Valkyria Chronicles uses DX9 on PC despite being an OpenGL game originally.

DX9 is more than likely a conscious choice to be compatible with various graphics injectors that are only DX9 compatible.

Remove it from MGR and its core gameplay wouldn't suffer much, most probably wouldn't even notice it's gone (if they even know it's there in the first place).

If you read threads on this forum you'll find tons of people that didn't learn how to parry until the final boss either, so what most people feel doesn't really matter.

You can also play through Bayonetta without dodge offsetting (took me 2 playthroughs to learn how it worked properly)...

Still can't get my Nintendo Pro Controller to work with Bayonetta. I've tried everything in x360ce with no avail. Anyone got theirs working with the game?

There is a visual tell for how long you have to wait during the dot.

Watch Bayonetta as you wait, iirc she spins her gun or something after a moment and that is your tell to press the next button.
I'm still not sure this is true for PPPKK*P -- the distance to the enemy seems to dictate whether "you've been naughty" happens. I tried a bunch of timings, and only moving slightly away made the proper combo happen.

For the game itself, I played it up through Rodin's bar (I'm not sure where I can manually save again) and it runs great. The camera was fine in the first area, but the fight on the
jet above the highway
had awful camera issues. I'll probably have to pull out a controller instead of keeping playing with KB+M.

Not strange at all. It seems to be a SEGA Europe initiative. That branch wouldnt touch consoles with a stick. While a Bayonetta port for consoles would be handled by SEGA Japan, which wouldnt touch PC with a stick.

Basically, its like for Valkyria Chronicles. PC port was handled by SEGA Europe from their own initiative.
Then because of Azure Revolution, SEGA Japan did another, different port of VC for PS4, which wasnt based on the PC port at all and had nothing to do with it.

This is always the case with character action games and why MGR's bosses are so damn good.

The big set piece style bosses are usually a waste.

You're right. I have lots of love for PG, but they're bad at pacing.
You don't get enough time to experiment with the core systems of their games in one walk-through because they always interrupt the pace with some gimmick/mini-game/spectacle-/set-piece encounter. Take the third (?) chapter of Bayonetta for example which has this great fight on the plaza with the fountain. The rest of the level are mini-boss fights and short encounters. In contrast NG gives you wave after wave of varying enemies, non-stop action, which I prefer.

Yes, I would love to see Vanquish on PC, but boy, was this game guilty of all the things I've mentioned. Bad bad pacing for a pretty short game. I would've preferred arena after arena with space to slide around and shot small robots, but PG thought that this game needed a stealth/sniping section and bullet-spongey giant machines. Urghhh

Is there a problem with the implemented SSAO option..?

I can run this 4k/60 with the high preset no problem, but if I activate SSAO even in only low the performance is all over the place...

980ti

Yeah, I have the same problem - I don't remember if the original game had SSAO anyway, and I'm not seeing a huge difference with it on or off. Anybody else have similar experiences?

Yeah and some people play RE6 like a regular TPS and wonder why they run out of ammo :p

Playing a game 'wrong' doesn't change its core and how it's supposed to be played.

I'll probably have to pull out a controller instead of keeping playing with KB+M.

Bro, these games are meant to be played with controllers.

Very much agreed, PG and especially Kamiya can be pretty bad at it. These games should be focusing most/all their play time on the core combat and not wasting time on the other stuff which is especially not fun to go through on subsequent play throughs.

I don't wanna say you're wrong, but...

I can breakdance with a chainchomp on my legs in bayo 2, sry bayo 2 wins.

It isn't. Forcing Umbran Climax and lowering combo damage is stupid not to mention tons of enemies that can break your combo to promote gameplay "diversity" for some reason. They weapon variants are the best thing about that game.

Uhh it isn't forced, I finished most of the game without even remembering I had it.

Valkyria Chronicles was a PS3 exclusive game before releasing on PC, so it used PS3 specific APIs.

And of course it means something, from a multiplatform point of view, D3D11 and its shader model adjusts much better to current gen tools and hardware.

Anyone try this on a mobile GPU yet?

I'm thinking I will pick this up soon, but I'm pretty out of the PC hardware race in recent years. My laptop has a GT750m (and DDR3 memory) and a core i7 4700hq.

Bought it for the IPS screen and nice sound more than the graphics.

But I can run Dark Souls 1 PC fine at 2560x1080 with DSfix hich is why I'm hoping this is will run at 30fps.

Might buy it just to support the franchise, I'll get beefier PC gfx eventually. And it sounds like a good port.

Is there any possibility of low-spec tweaking for this outside of the rather limited options menu?

Really want to get this running on the GPD.

Execution is a physical challenge that's about nailing down a tightly timed (often self-imposed)rhythm.

Combat with an enemy is more akin to solving a puzzle or figuring a hole in a pattern presented to you.(with some rhythm and timing involved but not to the same degree)

Very different tasks.

And both are legit.

Been waiting to replay this, played maybe 1/2 of it on 360 back in the day but dropped it for what ever reason.

Playing at 4k locked 60 on a 980

Amen, bruh. I want more "stupid"-fun games like EDF 4.1 which will give you just that.
This could also help with lowering development costs. The forced Space Harrier section in Bayo was not developed for free and onyl a fracture of the fanbase liked it. Just cut the fat.

Bayo 1 has Sai Fung, Bayo 2 doesn't. I think this case can be closed...

Tbh the weapon that left the biggest impression on me especially when I first saw it were the ice skates. So lady like and graceful with wonderful animation. Had a friend nearby and showed them to her and she just loved how Bayo was moving in them.

Bought it but having to start on Normal is a bit of a pain. I'm not sure how my 360 save file looks, I might have wiped it by accident when forgetting how to start a new game.

Happy to support more Sega PC ports. Hope it does well for them.

chainchomps and tentacle whips that can bounce giant enemies up and down, yes case closed.

A whip that can be used to either pull yourself towards enemies or to grab and rotate them over your head while wearing ice-skates. Oh and the light-show you experience when entering electro-gloves-fire-shoes-flurry-combo. Case is open again...

Can we agree that Bayo 2 really needed all of Bayo 1's weapons to be a perfect game?

Arwing guns...and actual arwings...closed?

That is agreeable

When you think about it it's a genius move by Platinum Games. Makes it so MSAA does nothing and make it so those players that don't understand quality settings be happy that they're running "at max". Then, a week later or so, fix MSAA for the more knowledgeable while having 90%+ good reviews.

Bayo1 has motherfucker Jeanne

Bayo2 Jeanne has to be rescued by Bayonetta (Platinum pls)

That alone elevates Bayo1 over Bayo2!

Oh yes, Balder in Bayo 2 was great, but that skyscraper fight against Jeanne is GOAT.
Missile Tennis... nuff said :D That was the only time in my gaming career when I truly loved QTEs.

Arwing guns...and actual arwings...closed?

Arwing weapons were just a kind of reskin of a Bayonetta 1 weapon. Where's Pillow Talk in Bayo 2? ;P

Generally my opinion is that Bayonetta had better bosses (including Jeanne), while Bayonetta 2 had better everything else
