Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Oh, I meant droughts in terms of having those huge announcements. It is just a matter of time before that well dries up. They can't keep having huge announcements year after year.

They can still have good or great shows overall though.

Yep. There's not much else to announce, but updates on already announced games will still keep me pretty hyped.

So we now have confirmation that they have Destiny 2, Battlefront 2, and Red Dead Redemption 2 marketing rights. Wonder if they'll hold onto COD too.

They're going to sell alot of PS4s again this fall.

And then there's GT Sport, which will sell gangbusters no matter what.

As for Sony retaining COD marketing, I think it'll definitely happen.

I think COD for them is definitely going to be for the duration of the gen.

And if this new COD goes back to WW2. It's going to get a lot of interest.

That being said. Does Sony go all out and have bundles for BF2, COD, RDR2 ( if it releases this year), Destiny, etc.

And just do a bundle wide price drop on Black Friday?

Yeah, Sony's year-end marketing campaign is going to be unlike anything we've seen before from them. CoD, Battlefront, Destiny 2, RDR2 along with their own Gran Turismo Sport.

It does beg the question what their HW strategy will look like this fall.

In years past it was all but assumed that doing a CoD bundle in the holidays was a sure-thing, but last year Sony prioritized profits during the peak sales period and went with only a UC4 bundle.

Battlefront and Destiny were both bundles that have done very well for Sony. CoD remains an industry titan. RDR2 is long time coming, and has huge franchise growth potential.

It'll be curious to see what gets what; in terms of mainstream bundles, premium bundles or different approaches altogether.

I think Horizon could get a bundle, like UC4 did last holiday.

The rest is hard to predict though, given just how many bundles could happen. Very curious about this all as well.

I feel Star Wars will be a premium bundle. Simply because along with the movie hype and the hype with the game people may shell out some money to buy a PS4 for it. Especially collectors.

RDR and Destiny will get your typical bundles. Then I suspect they'll do the typical price drop for everything on BF and then do ANOTHER price drop around December for the Holidays.

I think rdr2 and cod will have regular/pro bundles. Destiny 2 and battlefront 2 will have special edition bundles

I recall reading that their COD deal lasts 3 years, so even if it goes back to MS at the end of it they are guaranteed this one

CoD, Battlefront, Destiny, RDR2, GT Sport and Horizon potentially added to bundles.

All I know is that I'm glad I'm not in charge of making the bundle decisions lol. I would try to give them all their shine though and add Horizon into the package.

Well now we know the new COD is coming out November 3rd. Battlefront2 most likely comes out in November as well. Probably towards the end of the month.

I'd say October is when GT sport releases if it does make it this year.

Benefits of having so many first party studios is the cycle can sustain itself. After Horizon we are now waiting for the next big thing from GG (Horizon 2 or KZ4 or New IP). Same with all the other studios.

Wonder if AC will be ready and who'll get the marketing rights for that.

I'm guessing it's MS this time since Ubisoft like to switch marketing partners every year since black flag released?

I think it's a more a case of "who cares about us this year" than actively trying to switch between the two with each game. Sony has a ton of huge deals this year, plus GT Sport, so smaller games like Shadow of Mordor 2 and Assassin's Creed fall through the cracks.

It makes a lot more sense for games that won't be prioritized by Sony to find another partner anyway.

The fact is, with 4 big marketing deals all around the same window, Sony will likely stretch themselves a bit thin. Especially if they also want to have a profit-focused bundle with a first-party title into the mix.

It would not be strange if one or two of their co-marketing deals will probably end up getting less attention than the ones they prioritize.

That is crazy to think of, since each one of those deals could easily be a flagship marketing deal for that holiday season, same way Destiny and Battlefront were Sony's marketing darlings for their respective holiday season.

Sony had marketing rights to Watchdogs 2 last year and Syndicate the year before though. I saw Watchdogs 2 as filling the same slot as AC essentially for Ubisoft, so I don't think they necessarily switch each year.

So far this gen for their major games-

2013: AC: Black Flag with Sony
2014: AC: Watch Dogs with Sony, Unity with MS, Far Cry 4 with Sony
2015: AC: Syndicate with Sony
2016: The Division with MS, Watch Dogs 2 with Sony

The Crew, Siege, Steep, Ghost Recon, and For Honor didn't have partners right?

I can't imagine a scenario where they don't channel stuff with bundles

Yea Sony have already launched their hardware. Pro and VR. This year imo. It should be about bolstering the PS4 with content. Which they are doing.

This holiday like you said. They channel stuff. Sell as much as they can. Drop the price for BF. Then to get rid of any stock do another Holiday sale around December.

Battlefront will get a Pro bundle, probably. Horizon might get an PS4 one.

Makes more sense to promote Horizon for PS4 PRO since that game is a show piece for PS4PRO.

When you have great eastern third party support yes you can still have huge announcements.

They are going to show off or at least tease sucker punch's new game, plus what ever they have with FROM Software.

They also have PSX to consider. All they have to do is show gameplay to already announced titles to create huge buzz.

But I think we are going to see some surprises.

First party wise no I don't expect any 'surprises' outside of a VR game from London/North West or a sooner than expected release date for a AAA game. Third party wise, anything's possible.

Games published by Sony would still count, wouldn't they? While almost all of heir owned studios' upcoming projects have been accounted for - except for Sucker Punch's new production and a possible Japan Studio work in the making-, nothing should have prevented them from making deals, ala Spiderman. I was told that they have quite the second Party network, and owing to their dramatic lead over their direct competitor, they would hardly need to court partners...

I was talking about in the years to come like 2018, 2019, 2020. Big surprises like Spider-Man and FVII Remake, for example, won't be able to happen back to back.

I think Rainbow Six: Siege was at Microsoft's E3 press conference in 2015. I'm not sure they had exclusive marketing though. For Honor was at the PS4 Pro reveal but had no exclusive marketing.

Ah that's a better way of putting it
My guess:

Sony: RDR2, CoD, SW, Destiny2.
Xbox: AC, SoW, EA Sports, Bethesda.
Huh didn't know bethesda is planning to release something this year

I wonder if Sony can top their Holiday 2015 sales. They have potential bundles with the 4 biggest sellers of 2017, pretty crazy.

AC will definitely lead on Xbox this year, probably make for a rather impressive Scorpio showcase.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sony tried and drown out the Scorpio noise when it releases.

Having Marketing rights for RDR2, Destiny 2, COD, and now Battlefront 2 should do the trick.

Thats not even including potential first party games that may come out this holiday.

Fucking lol. This seems like overkill.

Plus you drop that pro to $299 for the holiday, slim for $199? Baby, you got a stew going.

I can see this happening for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but not for the rest of the holiday season or the world for that matter. All I can say is, this holiday will be very interesting now that Switch is released and Scorpio will be released.

It wasn't that interesting when Pro was released. Seriously are people expecting the Scorpio to take the world by storm and Sony should be worried? lol

Sure, it makes sense for Ubisoft but I don't think it's controversial to say that if Sony wanted AC or SoW marketing deals, they'd have them. It's obviously not the case with all of Microsoft's marketing deals (FIFA, Madden and BF1 are/were big), just some of them that are inconveniently timed against much larger deals.

As for stretching themselves thin, I think it depends where the release dates fall. Destiny 2 is in September, so it's nicely spaced out from the worst of the holiday season. Ideally the other three would then be staggered out with a couple of weeks in between each release, so maybe RDR2 in mid-October, CoD in early November and then BF2 in mid-November. I don't think that'd be that hard to keep up with but we'll have to see what happens.

I could see SIEA having five or six bundles, like they had in 2015. Something along the lines of a bundle for each of the four games above, a first party bundle (Horizon + Lost Legacy?) and a kids bundle (Knack 2 + Lego something?).

SIEE are far more liberal with their bundles than SIEA, so they'll probably have a ton of them but GT Sport will be the big one for them.

If Sony are funding and publishing a game then yes, it's first party regardless of whether they own the developer or not. Spider-Man, Bloodborne, Everybody's Golf, Journey, etc. are all first party.

New games from Sucker Punch and FromSoftware are the two "safe" E3 guesses (though I'd still caution against thinking they're dead certs). PixelOpus and Manchester Studio (North-West Studio) are possibilities too. No way are Japan Studio at a point where they'll announce a new game though.

Scorpio will be the same as Pro in regards to sales. Majority will stay away, those who already own an Xbox One won't bother and only those who have a 4K HDR TV and want to upgrade will buy it.

As for Sony, Destiny 2, COD and SWBF2 is more than enough. Still see RDR 2 being delayed to 2018 which would be the better move. RDR 2 will be big but those first three games will all outsell RDR 2.

I'm not saying the Scorpio will take the world by storm. What I'm saying is that the consumers now have more choices of console to purchase, so the total sale for each platform will be very interesting, whether it will spread out evenly or one platform will dominate.

PS4 Pro RDR2 bundle w/ UC4 & Horizon digital codes
$299.99

Amateur bundle, same deal $199.99

With all the marketing deals, Crash remakes, GT and a new uncharted with FF7 on the horizon...

If done right PS4 could shoot into the stratosphere.

Depends how Microsoft market it. If they name it differently to Xbox One and make it seem like a new platform that plays the old games then it changes the game, Sony just put the PS4 Pro out there with very little fanfare, which personally speaking was a mistake it should have been shouted about.

MS made a big deal with Xbox S and it was outselling PS4 for 3 months after launch, Scorpio is likely going to have an even bigger marketing campaign.

Anyway looking forward to what Sucker Punch has cookin' since they have been quite for so long. If it were yet another inFAMOUS game we definitely would have heard about it by now if not last year.

Then the hype wore off and the Xbox One had its worst February this generation. If that's what we can expect from the Scorpio, then I'm not sure why anyone would think it'll change anything.
