Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

Someone said it happens when 'non-standard resolutions' are used. I take it that means anything above 1080p?
Nope, I certainly didn't have this happen in 2560x1440, and I think I didn't have that happen even in 5120x2880. Maybe your resolution needs to not be higher than your desktop resolution?

Why does the DF video say you cN eliminate aliasing from the game if the MSAA doesn't work?

I'm running at 1080p and the only IQ issue I have is aliasing, is the only way to remove it to use Nvidia Inspector?

GSync works for me if I run at native resolution, doesn't work if I downsample.

Thankfully someone found those working SGSSAA bits a page or two back which removes the need to downsample.

He was running at 4k which is effectively super sampling.

They say that because affordable, modern GPUs can run the game at resolutions like 5120x2880. The easiest way to increase your rendering resolution above your display resolution is to use Nvidia's DSR feature.
There are other options that might offer better results using SGSSAA that can be enabled with Inspector. Go back a few pages to find posts explaining what to set where.

OK, thanks for the info!

It happened with me when I downsampled to 2560x1440 from 4434x2494.

No - non-standard resolutions they refer to is anything that isn't 16:9

Not tested 4:3 which may be fine. Also wider resolutions that still respect 16:9 height ratio may still work as well.

Basically platinum didn't test beyond 16:9 as far as I've checked, which is where the issue crops up specifically in the film reel cutscene elements only. Everything else is fine

I'm new to DSR so maybe someone can explain this to me. I allowed for 1.5x and 2.0x options in the nvidia control panel and the resolutions in-game that I'm offered are weird numbers and not typical >1080p resolutions.

E.g., 2.0x is translating to 2715 x 1527. That doesn't seem related to 1080p in any straightforward way. What am I not understanding?

I have a 970 and 1080p display FYI.

I'd be interested to know what prompted this in the first place. Not saying the victim is at fault at all, but what drove Lee to request this of the British guy? Did he get his ass beat at some online game? Rivalry over some girl?

I know it's not technically how resolution scaling works, but I went for 2880x1620 with this game, so a multiplier of 1.5. My first time dabbling with downsampling, and I wanted to go further than 1440p (though I did test that anyway), though I couldn't get outright 4K to work on my TV.

Result is great though. Crisp, clear, and runs smooth on my 6700k-GTX 970 combo.

That is one fresh take on the Bayonetta story. I like it!

is your hud enabled in the options? for some reason it was off in my game when I first started, maybe because I alt-f4'ed or something everything was turned to off lol
It was definitely off. I remember no HUD at all and thought it was on purpose. Sound was completely off until I turned up the audio from zero too. I'll check that out and see if it solves my problem. TY

So there is a solution? I want to get a g-sync screen eventually.
You just leave V-Sync on (which still leaves G-Sync active), run it in borderless/windowed mode, or hit the turbo button on your monitor if it has one to change the refresh rate .
I suspect that a turbo button is a required feature for G-Sync monitors but I'm not certain.

I managed to get GeDoSaTo to work, and the game looks pretty spiffy downsampled from 4K, but it wasn't until I added the executable to the user whitelist in that app that it worked. Is there a similar whitelisting step that I might've missed for the nvidia profile inspector?

You need to click the little sun icon to add a profile, then you click one of the other icons to the right (I think it's a plus sign) and add the Bayonetta executable.

I've done that.

Son of a gun, I was wrong. You can't even quit to the chapter menu and then later continue from the autosave if you're on a boss fight. Now I have to play the entire tough level again AND redo the boss fight for saving out from the boss fight.

I finally beat the bosses, got to a completely different chapter area, quit to the chapter menu, and then had to replay the whole thing.

Is there any safe way to pause and quit in the middle of a chapter? Obviously retrying individual segments works perfectly, so I'm pretty confused.

If you want to resume from a mid-level checkpoint, you have to quit to the Title Menu, not the Chapter Menu.

I actually had the game freeze on me, but picking the continue option put me back at the last checkpoint I was at.

I'm under the impression that this was the Pure Platinum save scam tech lol

Yes. If you're going for a pure platinum, and you take a hit (or see that your combo score is too low, or feel you might be taking too long), then quitting to the Title Menu will autosave to the checkpoint before that verse.

Please remember that the REAL game is Non Stop Climax mode.

Happy training!

Actually, I do wonder.

Ironically, I found this difficulty easier than hard when I first did it many years ago because of the weapon they gave you for finishing the thing on hard. Disregarding the fact that it kills your combo points, just playing casually made it easier since the weapon was strong enough to put most things in hitstun and I ended up abusing this.

(thinking back, I can probably put an enemy in hitstun and then hit it with something like the
killgore
glitch in order to get the combo score up)

Also, I'm to understand that hard and infinite climax is the same difficulty, but they
strip away witch time
. Other than that, I was under the impression that the difficulty was more or less the same, but I'm not sure and have to investigate first.

(funnily, some enemy compositions have been easier on hard compared to normal, I felt)

I'll do Infinite Climax normal the first time, but I'll probably use the
bangle of time
in later playthroughs assuming it works on the difficulty since I don't want to think too hard about setting up combos, especially given that afterburner kick isn't the insta-launch that it was in 2.

(I've noticed that you probably have enough time to walk over to someone in witch time and use the lock-on or PPKP launch, but I'm still trying to find something that accomplishes a ground launch faster)

It's kinda frustrating having things fall out of my combo: this funny thing happened with wolverine where I apparently need a specific setup to not have the thing flip out of the combo: from what I can understand, you pin it to the edge of the arena to have it flip into your subsequent hits and it's a bit annoying since I noticed that if I don't time it right, I whiff all my hits.

I thought this was only a thing in part 2 lol

(well, they do a burst animation in that game and I'm assuming that, at least in this game, it's still actually at least maybe possible to catch things when they flip out, but I just don't know the tech yet)

EDIT:

That said, my skill goals for the game is to do platinums without checkpoint reloads. I'm not about that pure platinum life :v

So I've finally got the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller working with the game via Steam's Big Picture mode but I'm having joystick sensitivity issues in that I'm only slow walking most of the time, sometimes all of a sudden I start running but I'm not sure what is triggering it. Anyone know where I should look to fix it? I looked in the Steam controller configuration settings but not sure I saw anything that would change it.

i am running on my laptop at 1366x768
It happens at non-16:9 resolutions. We've been complaining about it in the thread, it's one of a couple of issues that I can live with but are annoying.

These are 16:9 resolutions which is why they're fine.

*edit* I'm super beaten, sorry.

The Afterburner theme? Wouldn't Hang-On have made more sense?

Either way, that level blew ass.

Honestly, there's several sequences I wish to not play again in this game lol

(there's this one where you're on a
turret
and it's fucking terrible)

I don't much like the bosses now either given that they're mostly gimmick bosses and I'm more interested in fighting trash mobs where I can actively use my tools...

There's other issue besides some cutscenes I've found. You can use NVidia Inspector to force SGSSAA at 16:9, but not at 16:10 (or 21:9).

You can dodge out of the
turret
and get Witch Time if you didn't know. It still isn't super fun, but it's a short change of pace and an easy Pure Platinum once you've learned it.

Also, Pulley's Butterfly eats the laser on that part, though iirc it doesn't eat the punch.

Also, since you mentioned BoT and NSIC,
BoT consumes waaay more magic on NSIC. Like 3 times more? Forget the exact number.
No cheesing for you! :P

Yeah, I did that and it's still awful.

I'm more interested in a way to make it faster, but I don't know if it exists since it seems like you only have one real option for damage.

That said, I saw some combo videos and it seems like they use the accessory to hold wolverines in place, so I'm like whatever, just let me finish a damn air combo.

Debating with myself if I should forgo buying any more moves until I can afford Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa. Last time I barely got it before the final boss and didn't have all that much fun with it.

Tapping fires faster than holding. On the Wii U, you could tap the gamepad and go even faster (though I always sucked at aiming with the Gamepad, so I never bothered...).

On PC, you could probably make an AutoHotKey script for ultra rapid fire, lol.
