Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

Wow, I had forgotten how shitty it is to play this without the whole moveset, especially beast within and bat within.
RED HOT kick

My first buy.

Tried bumping it to 4k, my 1060 just doesn't have the juice with the additions, its vsynced at 45fps.. Gonna try SSGGAA.

Free games for this marvelous occasion

I know this has already been asked, but I'm really tired so please bear with me: what do I need to do to get 21:9 on a 3440x1440 monitor?

Halp. Vry tired, long day, 1000 post thread.
There's a hex edit somewhere but I don't know where. :(

Ingame note: I forgot how wonky the save system is. I got burned for the first time by having to replay the entire (NOT EASY) Vigrid level. I did a manual save at the end and then it told me I wouldn't be able to start from my checkpoint. I don't know why.

Do you basically have to complete entire chapters before saving, or else never load manual saves and just use the auto-checkpoint for mid-chapter saves?

What? A re-released classic game for just 20 bugs? It's like people will buy this even if they own the 360/ps3 version (especially the ps3 version).
*looks at gearbox*

So what are the best settings for an Nvidia 960? Can I make use of that special anti-aliasing stuff? If so how would I do it?
1080p honestly maxxed is my bet, maybe some AA.

Its half of my 1060 and that's at 1800p locked 60 maxxed without MSAA. 4k dips too much imo.

To be fair, well designed KB+m controls work even for action games. The Arkham games work well on PC for example. I still prefer a controller but KB&m controls don't have to be shitty.

Yeah, that's fair. There have also been a couple of RTS games that play well enough on console, so it's definitely possible to come up with thoughtful control schemes when using input methods that aren't the norm.

Question for those with the port: How does it handle non-standard (ultrawide, basically) aspect ratios? Nier was really wonky about this, modifying the gameplay, but not the UI or cutscenes without a patch...

I've only ever played Bayonetta 1 on the PS3 so it's blowing my mind that I'm playing this game at a locked 60fps.

As someone who still owns the 360 version and owned the Wii U version, I feel bad for you having that as your first main experience :/

My thumbs haven't failed me; the first Steam Achievement I got was for Dodge Offsetting a Wicked Weave.

This hot dollar of Steambucks from selling the Trading Cards doesn't hurt, either.

Pity party unnecessary, even at a muddy 30fps it was still better than any similar action title that wasn't Bayo 360. From what I recall there wasn't going to be a PS3 version until a last minute port, and personally I was glad to have it over getting nothing.

Still, no version did the image quality justice until now.

This is my favorite game of all time and I need to get money to get this game within the artbook deadline. Hopefully verse selection mods are introduced but the nixed load times are a start. Chiming in on earlier discussion, bayo 1's system is deeper and challenging, and in my opinion is better for it, but 2's is flashier and more "rewarding" with witches' weave and certain weapon layouts so i can see why people like it.
but i'll give Bayonetta 2 this, moon river > fly me to the moon.

edit: just realized that this (hopefully) means a resurgence of bayonetta fan art, for which I am excited.
Bayo 2's biggest mistake is that it didn't use Moon River nearly enough.

I dont know if what I will ask could be seen as port-begging, so if the answer is yes, I will gladly edit out my post.

My question is: why would they port the game just to PC? Why not release it on current gen consoles too? I dont understad the reasoning.

Easiest question ever to answer. Because the PC is an open platform that allows for quick and cheap digital releases without any fuss or marketing. To top it off there's a ready and willing audience there.

To release something on a console platform, you will need to deal with certification and ratings, with those costs built in, publishers will usually also want to recoup their investment by having a retail release. With a retail release you then have to worry about manufacturing and distribution, and because of that you also want to invest more in marketing.

On the other hand all you need to release something on Steam is to make sure it works. They didn't even market this, they just put up a 2 year old gag flash game on Steam (again, at no cost to them) and let people go viral with it.

Lets not forget that with a release to modern platforms you get all sorts of expectations as well. A PS4/XB1 release will come with expectations of "remastered" textures and more work put into it at least. A Switch release will come with the expectations of Bayonetta 2 as well. Sega Europe didn't want any of that hassle. They just wanted to re-release a beloved game on a platform that will last much longer than any console lifespan, at the lowest cost possible.

Yep, it's as duckroll said. PC was the safest, easiest and fastest bet.

But, I would be quite surprised and perplexed if Bayo didn't eventually end up on PS4/X1.

If Sega sees value in the future of the franchise it'll happen, but it's not something they can just drop instantly like they did here. Bayonetta 2 being a Nintendo exclusive makes it more complicated too.

I see. Thank you for the insight!

I distinctly remember the twin boss fight in the (early game)
fiery Vigrid
area to have AWFUL framerate. Playing it at 60 fps is still tough but a lot better.

Because it's a SEGA Europe initiative. As SEGA Europe is doing only PC stuff, it's coming only to PC. If it was a SEGA Japan initiative, it would've been PS4, maybe XB1 too, heck maybe Vita too, but not PC.

Because the way SEGA operates is an outdated one.

Son of a gun, I was wrong. You can't even quit to the chapter menu and then later continue from the autosave if you're on a boss fight. Now I have to play the entire tough level again AND redo the boss fight for saving out from the boss fight.

Ftfy bro.

Right. :")
But yeah, the only way I can see SEGA Japan porting it is if they have Bayonetta plans for PS4/One. That's basically what happened for Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, which was a different port than the PC one and were totally unrelated. One was a SEGA Europe initiative, the other was a SEGA Japan initiative.

Is there any way to turn off the filter along the top of the screen in some outdoor areas? I never thought that added much to the whole look.

That still doesn't beat how Capcom USA announced and released the D&D Collection on PS3/360/WiiU/PC developed by Iron Galaxy, and then Capcom Japan announced their own D&D Collection just for PS3, which is a completely different port done in Japan, released only in Japan.

I finally beat the bosses, got to a completely different chapter area, quit to the chapter menu, and then had to replay the whole thing.

Is there any safe way to pause and quit in the middle of a chapter? Obviously retrying individual segments works perfectly, so I'm pretty confused.

Hahahaha. Wow, I never heard of it, but yeah, this is really silly.
These companies should get their shit together when it comes to multiplatform developpement. At least, Capcom is better on that front.

Does anyone know if AMD virtual super resolution or whatever it's called works as well as the software upscaling solutions like gedosato?
