Project scorpio to be unveiled at E3

Yes, why would anyone ever want to play games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, the new Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Shadow of War or Battlefront on the most powerful system with with the best service?

This is a Project Scorpio thread, why are you brining PC to this discussion?

They got spanked because it was a weaker system and people didn't give a fuck about Kinect. 499 is perfectly fine and expected.

Sony original console is still gaining them market share.

The XBO-S buzz is gone. They can't afford to just sell to enthusiast market, like the PRO can.

Dumb fanbase now?

I'm willing to pay for the performance I get. That's for sure.

Spare me the fake outage and read better.

This has to be the worst point ever.

Here's a better comparison. They tried this 4 years ago and got spanked.

I hope MS is smarter than some of its fanbase.

They tried what sorry? Releasing a premium spec console? Is that what they tried?

You need to brush up on your console history breh!

This thread bums me the hell out. As a Sony fanboy I was in their ass when they were taking forever to get games out and when they finally got one out it was trash (The Order), I was in Nintendo's ass when they refused to seem like they care enough about the Wii U to support their own damn system when it's obvious no other developer cared. And now Microsoft is trying to push new hardware but without the software to back it up because they've canceled a third of the titles they've announced. They deserve a little skepticism and people busting their chops.

This isn't fanboyism. I think Nintendo still has a long way to go to get their shit together. I'm still mad at Sony for their lackluster PS+ offerings (...that's all I got, objectively their game line up is just incredible in terms of depth). I want to see all companies do great, because a company never does better than when they're scared they aren't the top dawg. So I want a host of new shit from Microsoft to make it exciting. But right now it just seems like they're the home of multiplats, and that makes me sad.

mS may have already won e3

Depends what games they have. Sony tends to do very well in E3's because they tend to announce game that maybe 3-4 years off. Microsoft in stark comparison does have too much in the way of first party studios/third party collaborations which tends to compound the issue.

I think one thing that is important to remember regarding pricing is Scorpio doesn't exist to make Xbox magically outsell PS4. In fact I'm pretty confident MS aren't expecting that at all. Spencer himself has already stated that the "race" for this generation is over and that he expects the S to still be the primary seller.

Scorpio exists for 2 main reasons. Firstly to drive up revenue and ASP prices from a smaller more enthusiast market. Secondly to keep their existing Xbox fanbase engaged and active with the brand.

I'm sure MS would love for Scorpio to be a huge hit and somehow start giving them the lead on monthly sales but that isn't the expectation. They aren't going to be, or should I say don't have to be, in a price race with the Pro.

Now they very well may still launch at $399 but they don't have to $499 would also work for the targets and demographic they are targeting. I don't think where Sony is positioned is the most important factor in their pricing model.

Looks at sales...

This is getting cute :)

Are Sony's sales figures supposed to diminish any excitement for the system? Maybe it's just me, but:

we've reached all new levels of wtf in this latest scorpio thread.

MS' messaging about who this product is intended for couldn't be more clear, yet we still have threads, and threads, [and fucking threads] full of people not grasping any of it.

Well said. I bet even at 499 it'll be hard to find this Holiday. Xbox fans have been waiting forever for this and they'll gobble it up in droves. I honestly think Phil is downplaying a tiny bit.

yeah that's true sony will probably be loaded with some great games to show off. but mS usually does great with features. a couple of years ago they announced BC. and now they got new hardware.

How so? Unless the Scorpio reveal is accompanied by loads of new first party announcements and at least a few of those announcements aren't related to Halo, Forza, and Gears, I don't see how MS has a better E3 showing than Nintendo and Sony, both of which I'm confident will impress with new, unique first party reveals.

Damn.

Literally every time I check a Scorpio thread, I see the same comments about PC.

Jesus fucking christ.

How hard is it to comprehend that lots of people don't want to play games on PC?

There is a new machine coming out that will provide the best third party experience. Can't you guys just let others be excited about that?

No more crippled or inferior versions of franchises they might love like Battlefield, or COD, or whatever.

For Artisan I thinks it's 4K UHD Blu-ray!

I need new games. Gears 4 was dry, Halo 5 boring and actually Horizon 3 is the only thing Ive really enjoyed, Forza 5 and 6 was not as fun as the older ones.

And no, Sea of Theives, Crackdown 3 and Cuphead is not enough. Far from it. So far this year MS has released Halo Wars 2, which was not bad, but not as good as the first game. 1 game in 4-5 months is terrible imo.

it's new hardware, man. and it will be the best console yet.

yup. I said this in the digital foundry thread; if it is $400, i'll buy it.

IMO just a place to play the best 3rd parties is enough for me. I get what you are saying and if you don't like any of those games then stick with Nintendo or Sony. Just be glad we have choices.

Thank you all very much :-)

Sales / the business side of the industry is basically my main interest in games at least when it comes to talking about them so I hope I can at least provide some decent analysis in some threads. I for sure appreciate the warm responses

The thing is the 499$ price point only works in the US. Everywhere else on the planet it will cost a lot more than that. I hope that they won't think only about the US and think more globally. At 650$+ CAD thi thing will gather dust on shelves. I get the "it really is for enthusiasts" point but it also need to sell more than 10k units per month too.

Keep them coming. I've always thought your posts are great.

The US is their major market. Even with Surface products, and they seem to be doing really well.

So...not to be that guy but why is this all of a sudden the most exciting thing ever? Its just an Xbox One with more specs. Its like that guy that made that other thread about having a spiffy UI, more multimedia options, and etc. But cmon...the games...where are they? All this power is meaningless without the games.

We just reached the point where I guess games no longer matter its how powerful the console is. I mean this excitement was also present before the Xbox One was unveiled and look where it ended up.

Sure, if you only do console gaming Scorpio will undoubtly be the best place to play 3rd party titles, thanksfully Ive got a pretty powerful PC so I do most of my gaming there. Im still sitting with 1080p 60fps with a GTX 1080, so sometimes it's hard to understand all the hype about 4K on Pro and Scorpio. According to the Steam hardware survey most PC gamers are still sitting at 1080p.

But yeah, I understand that getting a Scoprio mostly for 3rd party can be reasonably (hopefully considering it's not out yet). However there's no advantage to choose a Xbox One (any of them) over a PS4 right now, which is why MS NEEDS to build up a better first party portofolio.

Focusing on the next 6 months is more entertaining then showing games that won't come out for 2-3 years.

Use "the best lineup in Xbox history " tagline, and they're golden.

They'll both have great shows, one is amplified when a new console is involved.

Good post. This is how I think about Scorpio. I also think it is the first step in a iPhone like approach where we see iterative updates within a closed ecosystem. When the next Xbox after Scorpio comes out I could see them cancelling support for the Xbox one and making Scorpio the minimum spec.
