Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

Well no one said it was perfect of course...but to not even call it good? Nah, sorry...
If I can notice jaggies in the environment while being actively focused on a race, it's not good. Good IQ = you'd have to go looking for jaggies specifically. Great IQ = no jaggies whatsoever. This doesn't fall in either category for me. It's just, okay. The jaggies are at least not showing up at the focal point of the screen all that much.

The game as a whole looks good (aside from Dragon Trail which I really hope gets a lot of work done to it before release). But we're specifically talking about one aspect of the overall look here.

The IQ is amazing good.

This is gameplay on original PS4.

Have been really happy with both performance and IQ, some tracks need some work but I can already see the improvements from earlier builds so who is to say they won't keep improving.

Oh god, I hope they don't add rain to this game. That is too big of a bite for PD to chew. There are so many systems you have to simulate first to make rain racing even remotely compelling. Shiny track with uniformly less grip is a pathetic excuse for rain racing.

Wow, I just finished 3rd, but I'm 2nd on the results screen. Looked like I was ~0.7 seconds behind, but results say I was 0.3 seconds in front?!?? *-*

-----

Also: I want an FOV slider so badly... and better brakes on the Lancer, I'm always braking too late and the thing sometimes just won't turn under braking... it's like I'm unlearning to drive if I continue to use that thing or the Genesis, which, luckily, I don't have to any longer

Not the greatest of shots (and a jpg)
I'm playing on Pro (but I don't think there's any IQ benefits compared to PS4, at least not in the beta) and, while I still think it looks flat and unimpressive, it looks better than that

For your sake let's hope they don't do that then...

The Lancers brakes are great, some of the best in that class I thought!

There are penalties that can be added at the results screen so you may have gotten ahead due to that.

Did 2nd place have a penatly?

The Lancer has active yaw control simulated which also translates into mega ABS. You have to turn off ABS and stand on the brakes 100% to use them, no need for threshold braking, the computer does all the work. You only have to trail brake in slow speed corners to avoid lock up, otherwise you have to do full brakes.

For your sake let's hope they don't do that then...
Oh yes, the tragedy that would be to not get to compare rain GTS gifs to rain Driveclub gifs for 10 pages.

I've been trying (more likely begging) for three pages almost to get a EU code.

Trying my luck again as i see it worked for somebody a few posts up: Does anybody still have a spare EU code please?

Thank you

Yup, got it! Downloading now. Only 14 hours to go haha. Many thanks again.

I don't want to burst any bubbles, but there's a PSN list that if you aren't on you can't play. It will let you download, but the second it checks the servers it will lock you out and say that your psn isn't registered. Not sure if that's what you're trying to do or not. I got a code from somebody a few weeks ago. No dice.

Wrong, it works, at least for the EU, there are a number of people, myself included, doing it.

How does that work? I thought that's only in qualifying and the rest is minus to the SR. For what do I get a penalty. The guy in first shoved me off, when I was in first, in the first corner at Willow, maybe he ended up in third, I didn't remember the names and only took a short glance at the results screen.

Might be that I have ABS turned on again at some point. That's right, I remember that I good turn-in without ABS and AYC when I played around with on Saturday. Definitely better.

No, really not, maybe compared to other cars in that class, idk, but they are significantly worse than in GT6 (65% longer stopping distance from 160km/h to zero) and even quite a bit worse than in real life.

It would be incredibly stupid to say no weather given the indications/icons in the beta....

Guess I'm stupid. If it's so obvious, it would be better if it were actually announced. PD previously touched on the weather stuff in the game, talking about what wouldn't be included for Sport. I'd love to be surprised, but I'm not assuming anything.

Are you talking about the tyre options, or are there race settings that specifically show something like rainclouds/drops?

I think it's if they corner cut, I've seen 1 and 2s penalties on a number of races.

I think I've come to the conclusion that Polyphony has mastered the art of emulating how a camera works in a video game. The games graphics are amazing on their own during gameplay, but when it's seen through the lens of their virtual cameras, with a spot on way of displaying motion, handling lighting/exposure, replicating colors, it's fucking real life.
There's a reason for that. Since he was a little kid he loved all things through a lens...especially the smaller creatures, like insects. That's why camera work, lighting and car modelling are so bloody good across the board.

I can't think of another developer that has such precision for beauty in motion.

2017 and people still don't understand the concept of Gran Turismo replay v. gameplay.
You really think it's like that on a core-gaming forum? You sound pretty...salty; bothered by people liking the way it looks or being condescending. There's no need for it...especially when you are referencing a game that has a proven track record of creating standards in visual excellence through the generations. All of them. In-game or replay.

Again, if you don't want to like this game, why be here?

I don't mind you not liking the game but you're starting to be a new TheAdmeister (sp?). No game is perfect but, visually, traditionally, this is pretty much as good as it gets.

I meant stupid of PD not you pal 8)

Not talking about reflections. Talking about "smears" in the windshield. Like the ones on the left side of the screen here: (shitty capture from YT video)

Maybe...one is using normal road cars that have been driven on normal roads already...and another has normal road and racing cars that haven't. One is dirty compared to the other or, before racing occurs usually the windscreen is cleaned, for obvious reasons.

Or, maybe, they just haven't implemented it yet (like tyre skid marks).

Pick one.

What! Gran Turismo has had weather since the PS2 days.

Weather in GT5 was awesome. Less said about GT6 the better.

Wait, you're able to get into races? It's still not showing any events for me.

Same here. If anyone has a spare EU code, I would be forever grateful.

Been refreshing my inbox like crazy for days :(.

Pretty sure thats how most if not all racers model it: just change that friction coefficient. No way they model the fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.

We got a drifter boys. Last gif is so good.

can we make some kinda list for ppl who need a key? im here every day refreshing for hrs <.<

Alright. I'll make a list in the OP. Everyone who wants to be on it quote this post (without the gif ;) )

Precision for beauty in motion? Lol. I've heard it all now. You are in the beta thread of a racing game. FIA sanctioned, online competitive focused racing game. If it bothers you for people to focus on that, go to the screen shot or comparison threads. I don't think I have seen any, "not enough precision in the beauty of motion" listed in the 200+ bug report list.

There have been attempts to model drying line and standing water situations. Those are bare minimum. Do those both well and that is most of the battle. You don't need full fluid dynamics. If your tire model is good enough, you can fudge the heat part. It is mostly about varying conditions across a single slice of track.
