Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

There has to be a Senna tribute in GTS. And this car is required to be in the game.

For a moment I thought your shot was still Gran Turismo before I read the text lol, god I love Polyphony.

The biggest pet peeve I have with the SR system, it goes down everytime you go off track, even if someone crashes into you and drives you off. So just go off road haha.

My ping has never been below 110, which is weird since I'm wired and with 100/8 Mbps...

Wouldn't rest mode work?

I wish the Ring race was 3 laps, it's way hard too overtake over a lap.
My connection is 15/5🙈

Man, I really hope they put in some of the tire marks and other environmental effects in soon. I know the beta has a lot of stuff purposely disabled since they want it to run as well as it can during server testing, but these amazing GIFs of the cars drifting and sliding are only let down by disabled effects.

This video I think shows how good GTsports online racing can be (and there are many of these videos online). I am going to take a guess that the guys in this race had a high safety rating seeing as not only did everyone finish but the last place driver was only 19 seconds behind the first place driver. The SR works, it just takes time.

Was watching a lot of videos and yeah...sound still sucks.

But in the related videos I saw a Forza 6 video with a Jaguar XKR (I own one, so I knew I could gauge easily) and clicked on it. It sounded nothing like my car, either. I really don't understand why it's so difficult for developers to get car audio right. :\

Only a few Need for Speed games and a Midnight Club game got it right. The rest have all been a wash.

I know how this guy feels. The middle sector (particularly the beginning of it) is the death of me on Willow Springs as well. I lose so much time there.

Interlagos = FUCK YEAH!

What, that's on the EU rotation now? I was playing before work this morning and it was still Willow, Dragon and Nurb for me.

Edit: nvm. Just saw the previous posts.

Finally got a decent gr4 car (GT-R). It actually brakes! And steers! And doesn't look like shit! If I ever see that fucking Mustang again it'll be far too soon.

The GT-R is great, but i want the other GT-R!

Haha, what. The Mustang is a fun drive.

If it had brakes, then maybe. Hell, even an anchor to throw out of the window would help. A lot of boats have them.

Will the cars we unlock here transfer over to the full game?

I very much doubt it.

On that subject, FUCK having to unlock cars. If the beta is anything to go by then the full game will end up pissing me off by making me jump through hoops to maybe, possibly get a decent car in a particular class.

I was rather hoping that PD would ditch the Pokemon style of car unlocking as part of GTS's new direction with a nod to the more serious side of e-sports. I almost booted the game up at 11:30pm last night after a long hard day so I wouldn't miss out on the chance to unlock a non-Mustang gr4 car, but luckily I came to my senses and went to bed. Grinding to unlock cars and having consecutive log-in bonus credit accumulators (like in GT5 or 6) would seem weird to me in GTS, not to mention that they are a pain in the fucking ass in 2017.

If all online racing games was like this it would be fantastic. great showcase of how well it can be done. Proper racing all the way to the finish line.

dont forget us filthy casuals man, unlocking cars is a big part of the appeal for GT and aids the sense of progression.

It certainly is a divisive topic. I've never really been a fan of emotional paywalls but to me it just seems a lot less appropriate for an esports-centric game like GTS.

Looked pretty boring to me. Nothing of note stood out at all.

I remember playing Toca on Xbox online - now that was exciting!

I'm hoping we'll all get to start in the same (slow) class and go up through experience/ranking. I think that would be cool, and would probably improve racing by making everyone learn from the slower classes.

Probably not gonna happen though, reviewers and casual players want as much accessible to them as possible from the start.

Maybe they could have an official system/ranking and a separate custom-lobby system...

It's ingrained in GT DNA, so I'd be surprised massively if it went away.

Decent!? :P

It brakes, steers, gets off corners and starts better than anything else in the class!

I've been enjoying this EU Beta and playing it every day, even though the content is very limited and only playable for a few hours.

But it's only just sinking in that it will end soon, everything will lock, and i'll have to go back to waiting for the full game :-/

Everyone's cars sound so nice. I've got Hyundai, Megane, Hyundai, an Audio R8 that I can't control so I just use the Hyundai, and 2 weird looking vision cars.

So wait, you can only play at certain times and can't put it on whenever you like to play a race?

Qualification runs all day, so you can do laps on your own with any car eligible for that race.

Actual racing against other people is quite limited, I'd say you can only get a couple of races per track in per day if you are organised and free at the right times.

There are no other modes available like arcade.

I guess it's speculation, but do we know anymore about how the sport races will manifest themselves in the full game?, are they still going to be limited to a certain time period per day, or is it going to be more like iRacing?

Probably like Prologue or the matchmade races in GT6 but with a time schedule.

Yeah, but I meant are we only going to have a set window, like 1800GMT to 2000GMT, or is it like iRacing, where they have scheduled races, but run throughout the whole day, rather than a set window.

All throughout the day most likely. There's always the traditional Online mode too, if it should turn out that Sport races are limited, but I don't think they will be.

Pretty sure that Kaz said last year that having to unlock cars would be not going with the times and not what players want anymore these days. Really sounded like all cars would be available from the start like in all other sims except Forza.

Hmmm I doubt this will be the fact, mainly because one of the pre order bonuses is in game money.

Ha, they really don't have much of a clue what their audience is and what tehy want, right?

Have you guys seen the open question from Kaz in the forums about the racing line? They seem to be really unsure if they are doing the right thing with the markers and no racing line.
only the beta testers... they've never heard of confirmation bias.

I would hate for everything to be unlocked from the start personally... I enjoy unlocking stuff.

Also the racing markers are kinda a big deal, I know when I was working on a racing game I was pushing to have the racing line removed in favor of something else, it teaches very bad habits and really hurts the actual racing experience. I think they are on the right track but should maybe add some colours for braking and stuff to help people?

I think it is great they are actually asking though.

Link?

I did think no racing line was an odd omission, considering GT's target audience, but I think the markers over racing line is a good thing.

Giving players everything from the start (or having very quick progression) is a sure way to get 70% of your players to quit within 1-2 weeks. Some people just don't enjoy games if they don't have to grind to fill up bars and unlock stuff. You know, they call it "progression" and stuff.

What open question? They just discuss the reasoning behind the design decision. You sure you're not the one with the confirmation bias?

I wouldn't be surprised if GTS has massive grind supplemented by real money purchases/micro transactions.

That's exactly what I posted on the forums. Some other guy "corrected" me that there is already a mechanic tell the player ~where zo brake. The red gear suggestion will start blinking with increasing frequency. Not a terrible mechanic, but looking down to the hud when you want to concentrate on the markers is not very beginner friendly either.

Abou the unlocking: I don't want to grind 20h to get a 250GTO, I always liked the early parts of it in GT games, but putting prices close to real world prices on cars breaks the economy in my opinion and is super hard to balance and make it feel like a reward for mastery instead of a grind that doesn't require any skill.

oookay..... wait, what?? edit: I'll give you that there's no question mark. But really, PD was probably surprised that there wasn't any real talk about omissing the racing line ignited by the community on its own. They want to see how the community thinks about it, that why they posted that "reason" with the "it might not be the end-all-be-all solution, but we thought it's a good idea" at the end. It's asking for "please tell us, we are not wrong and it's really a good idea".

It'd be nice if the game gave us the option at the start to either have everything unlocked straight away or to have to grind to unlock things the traditional GT way. I wonder how many people who selected the latter option would soon click the 'unlock everything' button? That would prove whether they really like it or not I guess. Personally I hate it. I paid for the game, give me fucking content already. I'm not a performing seal bashing a tambourine for fish.

The driving and racing experience should be reward enough in themselves though..?
