Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

People are speculating that the US beta is over. Don't know what's going on there.

Btw. what were you US-guys pings? In the EU beta forum everyone except 1 guy is posting pings over 90. Wonder where the server is.

Never went above 40ms. Low 30's most of the time. My ping did not seem to affect the quality of the race. Not sure if they are dedicated servers or what, but cars snaking all over the place was the norm for me in the beta. Felt no different than racing online in GT5 or GT6. I think GT Prologue is still the best online racing I had in a GT game....well and of course NGRL.

Pretty sure thats how most if not all racers model it: just change that friction coefficient. No way they model the fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
I wouldn't say Forza's modeling outside of their puddle simulation is good, but it does affect tire temperature. Same in pCARS1.

You also want to change the friction circle depending on how the tire displaces water depending on speed and load... that's on the "easy to do" side of things.

I bet simulating the drainage and water depths is probably on the harder side, if you have dynamic weather... but honestly, everything outside of dynamic weather and longer races is kinda pointless. pCARS2 is giving this a shot.

My ping was almost always around 28 to 30.
They're really using US servers for the EU beta exclusively, huh? Well... probably better than not testing this scenario at all before release.

I don't get why are they even trying making us EU players play on US servers. It's obvious that it's going to be unoptimal and laggy.

Overtaking other cars in Nürburgring at 100+ MPH with a ping of 110+ is never going to be fine.

What Traction Control is everyone with sub 7:00 times at Nurburgring using?

TC at 1 with the Alfa 4C seems to be incredibly hard. Not to mention the fact that trying to overtake a car, which is twitching across the track, is impossible as it will always kick you off the track. One can only hope they fix that for the full game, otherwise I think I need to stay away from it.

You can go under 7 minutes with TC at 5, very sure of it... but a TC setting higher than 3-4 might make it harder again because you have to drive pretty smooth, not to be bogged down on power. But in a race you don't need to go 7:00 minutes currently, take it slow and consistent, push a little to make the guy in front of you a little nervous, that's at all. With the SR not have sorted out the asshats, I don't think I wouldn't even try to overtake someone on the track in fear he'd shove me off.

But about the TC again: I won one race at the Nordschleife with TC=3 and one with TC=4... didn't have to overtake a single guy on the track, they're all pushing too hard or persist on going TC=0 or TC=1 - either way they're all flying off the track.

I already posted a video, I got 6:51 in a McLaren with TC at 2. 6:57 without TC.

My ping has always been 58 or 59 and the racing was very smooth in the beta and GT5 and 6.

I had a video earlier doing a 6.57 with no TC have got down to a 6.52, but I use 1 for the race just to make it less stressful.

Honestly I think any higher than 1 would slow me down, seems to be far to strong, if I could have about 0.5 I would go with that :P

Need to start crashing into some people and getting my SR rating down. Today I kept getting paired up with ridiculously good polite drivers.

ROFLMAO!! I actually understand this logic all too well. I want to behave, I really do. For now, I can, at some point I'll have to rank down to be able to compete. Lol!!

The biggest pet peeve I have with the SR system, it goes down everytime you go off track, even if someone crashes into you and drives you off. So just go off road haha.

My ping has always been 58 or 59 and the racing was very smooth in the beta and GT5 and 6.

My ping has never been below 110, which is weird since I'm wired and with 100/8 Mbps...

Thanks. Left the PS4 on overnight (in Nurburgring qualifying) in case Euro events were pulled (as with the US beta.)

Wouldn't rest mode work?

I wish the Ring race was 3 laps, it's way hard too overtake over a lap.

My US beta certainly appears to have ended this past weekend. I live near Washington DC, and my ping never went over 8ms that I saw.

That's pretty low. Washington then huh?

Hold on a second... how will the matchmaking later on work?
If I have a suuper high Sportsmanship Rating but low Driver Rating(that's the "how fast I am" ranking from S over A to E) like say E or D, then the servers will look for the highest SR-rated drivers in the D/E-class Driver Rating and match me against those, right??

It's not some algorithm that adds both together to a final driver score and I'll soon end up going against people way too fast for me just because I'm polite, right? Or will that be completely different anyway later on with league races or championships?

I suppose I shouldn't be particularly surprised that there's no official communication about anything. This is PD we're talking about. You'd think they could have taken 10 seconds to throw a post up on the forums if this was ending.

The Japanese beta test has still to see any kind of follow up announcement after the initial "it is coming" kind of news.

I have US and EU accounts though, if anyone has a key they are not in a hurry to use!

Sounds like yeah, Driver Class, then SR match makes sense. then your matchups are based on qualifying times. No qualifying time, you're at the back of the grid. It will try to match you up as best as it can.
