Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

I hope the ranked races have license restrictions for higher class cars. If you can't take a N300 around a track without going off four times a lap, there is no reason to be in a GR.3 car and just fuck up bigger. Unranked online and Arcade is enough to let people do whatever they want. There also needs to be something in addition to DR. It is too opaque and broad to be used as a driver skill rating. People with -50 less SR than me and a full minute off the pace were the same driver "skill". I hope they keep a license system like previous GT games that gate off certain cars and races and then you constantly have a driver skill rating that you can improve in any class you want because it is just about racing better than others.

I love collecting all the cars in a GT game, but if they want to make this a e-sport game, they all need to be unlocked from the start. The only gating should be with driver skill/rank/license. The way the BoP system stands, there will only be 4 cars worth buying anyway. In every phase of the beta, there was always a distinct best in class on the leaderboards. That being said, I did get fucking smoked by a mustang on the Ring which was humbling.

PS- Bummed the US beta just ended like that. Any communication would be nice. Hahahaha, who am I kidding, the internet is just being invented in PD land.

For some reason my SR has stayed locked at 1 all testing, have raced cleanly and won 3 and then placed 2/3/4th in others.

Not sure it's totally working right now, all I see are the hand shakes and an up arrow all race then at the end still a 1!

If you finish a race, at the end you should see your SR number. If it is red, that means you lost points, if it is blue you gained points (more is better) if it is gray, your points remained the same. You could have lost SR early, got down to 1, and keep breaking even in races. Going off track, any contact with barriers or other cars are all SR deductions. Clean sectors are positive SR points. Your driver ID could be bugged too. Who knows. I have won like 10 races now and am stuck in D class. I have seen C class drivers with less SR than me too.

What does force feedback steering senitivity means, what does it change!?

The sensitivity is the strength around the centrepoint, so for example, in a straightline, do you feel the wheel seasaws a little as you drive? If so reduce the sensitivity, if FFB feels vague at the centre, increase it.

I think unlocking all cars from the start would be 'wise' in today's market. Disclaimer, i'm one of those 'GT needs to move with the times and focus massively on multi-player' types.

One thing I do worry about is the basic multiplayer game. I feel like just getting in and racing quickly with a good variety of cars/tracks is very important. Like if I convince a friend to get/play this, how quickly can we get a multiplayer game going against randoms and how much variety will there be in cars / tracks?

If there is very limited car choice without grinding/unlocking I would say that's a bad decision.

Also if it takes a long time to get a game going, i would say that's a bad choice. I remember with GT5 (didn't play 6 so much, i forget) there was an awful amount of dicking around to get just a basic multiplayer game going, and even then you were often at the mercy of the lobby hosts' sometimes terrible rules/whims. Even then, car choice was poor unless you used your own 'ground out' car, and even then, with those allowed it was just a mess of completely uneven cars where the race was over by the first corner - organisational chaos!

Even with the beta, if you pick a race, between qualifying time, warm up and loading, it's 10+ minutes to get a game started. Seems a little high for what is usually less than 10 minutes of racing.

But I will say that the beta is pretty reliable, apart from network errors at the very start, I think every game has run through without a hitch so far, And the racing seems very fair, cars don't have a lot of differences between them

The driving and racing experience should be reward enough in themselves though..?

Hey, don't ask me! I totally agree with you. I'm just talking about the market as a whole. It's sad, but content padding and gating is almost unavoidable nowadays.

I'm also hoping they take the concept of Seasons from other online competitive games. It has a lot of potential in GT.

Improved my GT-R time on Dragon...Still a second and a half behind Denur in the same car...Might have to look at making some tweaks i think...

Were a lot more people let in recently? Signed up immediately and still haven't made it in. Feels bad.
I think there was a good amount of people in Europe that got in recently.

I signed up with 2 NA accounts, 1 EU account. EU account got in. NA accounts didn't.

They really need to refine the BoP system to have any hope of races with multiple car types. More importantly a good BoP systems means they could bring back Shuffle races which were the most fun. Random cars, locked setups... do it.

What photorealism in video games does best today <3

Is it too late to apply for the EU or JP beta?

Are they enabling the arcade mode and allowing everybody to download and play once the beta is over? Somebody ask in the beta forum.

Best gif yet. GT is always a reminder of how important lighting is. You can make up for meh alisasing, model fidelity and texture fidelity and still make something look closer to photo real with the lighting alone. Lighting realism was also the thing that jumped out at me when seeing newer gen animated movies like Zootopia. Last one I saw was probably Wall E and the improvements in the lighting used in those movies is insane. Ligthing is without a doubt the one thing PD has always got right. They should outsource that alone.

Just had 3 really good races, now up to D with a SR of 21, quality of racing really improves when you start rising up the SR ranks.

No warping or lagging either, despite a ping of 93.

-6 to my SR in 2 races for me, the Lancer's brake and me, we're not getting along!
One time I finished dead last because after braking too late for the 5th time I felt like doing donuts in the sand for the rest of the race ...cause "I hate this shit, fuck this car, fuck SR, fuck everything"... well, actually I got DQ'ed.

On the other side of the spectrum the Gr.4 GT-R is just way too good in that class, especially if you tune some of the understeer out of it. It's probably not even entirely unrealistic, just needs serious BoP adjustment from PD.

Edit: back to SR of 25 again.

and it's gonna be the same tracks and classes tomorrow... again.

Living in Germany, I had a ping of 124 which is ridiculously high and makes me wonder where the servers are located but the actual race was fine besides some minor warping.

Either the US, or in Japan, I'd imagine, I get a ping of 93 in the UK.
