Samsung Galaxy S8 · S8+ |OT| - Available April 21, 2017

Are there any apps yet that take advantage of the display yet? Or just good apps in general?

don't seem so. Most apps 'full screen' just fine though, mostly thanks to how android apps typically do scale to weird resolutions and aspect ratios because of how the system works.

Remember back in the day where there were other aspect ratios too? The first few Notes were like squares lol

Is anyone else getting sync errors with Google contacts? It worked when I initially set the phone up but keeps failing ever since.

Was excited to see samsung's clear view stand case in mail today. But guess what, the one thing that I thought this case would be decent at is exactly the thing it sucks at. It's not compatible with always on display. I shut the transparent view panel and there is a display there for 30 seconds but then it's gone. 60 bucks and you had one job. And you can't even do that.

Well, ended up buying the Orchid Gray. Should be here in a few days. Does anyone have footage of this new edge notification thing I'm reading about? Is it just light moving up and down the side of the screen visible due to the shape or what?

I held the floor model in my hand and it was glorious. I had to but it down because it was such a tease. I'm stuck in a contract until June. Rest assured I'll be in the store shoping for an s8 the day my contract expires.

weird that the nav buttons bottom turns white when a keyboard comes up regardless of your settings or the theme?

Unless im missing a setting somewhere.

wish I could turn the notifications dark as well.

Couldn't you just pay the rest of the contract off?

how many other android auto users are there in here? My galaxy s8, unlike my s6, is fucking immediately having a communication error issue/freezing the second I connect it. Tomorrow I'm trying multiple cables but I am about to flip my shit. Might have to try turning off fast charging as well to see if that's causing problems.

Took a pic of my new PC using it.

Who's going caseless and skinless?

I do it around the house, but not confident with it outside lol.

I mostly worry it's gonna slip outta my pocket. Thing basically is a sexy bar of of soap.
I am. I'll see how it is after a couple of days. If it's as slippery as everyone says I'll get a simple one, like the Ultra Hybrid.

Is there a recommended glass screen protector you guys are using? I think I'm gonna need one

I really wish I could rebind the bixby button to the torch :<

If the phone hasn't been updated yet then you can, I'm using the Bixbyremap app at the moment: Google Play

Currently I've got the button mapped as:

Tap = Toggle Sound state (silent, vibrate, etc.)
Double Tap = Google App
Hold = Toggle Torch

It's been working like a charm so far, I'm just going to try and avoid any future firmware updates like the plague.

There is a new app that works with the new Firmware

Really loving the phone so far, only problem is the rear fingerprint reader whilst using the LED case. Can't unlock whilst case is closed, can't easily get to fingerprint reader whilst case is open, retina unlock is way too reliant on good light conditions and face unlock is too insecure.

Also bought a Dex yesterday, fun to play with but no way to resize apps, things like netflix, plex etc. just sit in a phone sized window. The MS office apps seem nice but haven't played around much.

Those of you considering cases and whatnot...You should really think about a pouch instead.

I've been using Sena ultraslim pouches for every Galaxy I've owned since the s2 I think.

I find it low profile, you get the benefit of using yr phone as it was meant to be, but when yeh done it goes away and protects against scratches.

Still takes a lot of bravery.

I'm not brave.

I've thought about using a pouch. Haven't used one since the one that came with my Nexus One.

So I'm on a Note 4 right now. How does the phone handle what the home button would do in apps or on the home screen? Are there just persistent nav soft buttons in everything?

Sounds like the bixby button is a complete failure. Are there way to map it to something else like the camera or quick launch apps?

I need an answer because this is driving me crazy, not knowing if I should be happy with my unit or ask for an exchange.

Does every S8s have the different color on the curved edges like described in this video ?

https://youtu.be/xvFvOGH__kk?t=5m9s

I thought my S8 was faulty and victim of the red tint issue, but I'm pretty happy with my white balance. The red hue at the edge is not a deal breaker, it's a little bit distracting on white background, but I can live with that if you tell me it is the downside of the curved edge and every screens have this issue.

The red tint issue muddies the water and I don't know if people are talking about the white balance at the center of the screen or just the difference at the edges, because of the curved display.

The video from Unbox Therapy adress the red tint issue, but not the red tint only on the edges.

I really need more inputs from trusted S8 owners.

Hmm disabling bixby and using that app wont work. Every time I use the bixby button without disabling anything bixby launches with the flash light. if I disable bixby nothing happens.

Yeah, if I disable bixby, it doesn't work. I disabled bixby global action and bixby service and it worked, but not the one just labeled bixby. I have to double tap the bixby button, though. Maybe that's how it always? Not sure why you're getting the flashlight. Assigning an app in bixby remapper worked perfectly fine for me.

Wonder if Samsung will be dicks and keep trying to block apps like this from working.

Just now hitting 22% after playing Spotify through the night. Oh boy this battery life is stubbornly good.

I don't notice it on my phone, but I liken the reddish tint on the sides to viewing a tv at a side viewing angle.

Has anybody tries the dual Bluetooth yet? I'm also loving the feel of the screen. If feels extra smooth.
