Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

We sure it's a actual MSAA fix? I just tried it out and pumped out MSAA to x16 and had no performance impact whatsoever.
Sorry. Apparently it's not a fix at all. The patch is just for a Vanquish (!) tease.

I looked it up, it's true

Holy shit, guess Vanquish is already close?

The best form of anti-aliasing, and it's a shame that developers never natively support it in DX11+ games.

Unrelated question, but was wondering if you had any theories (or findings) as to why MSAA wasn't working. e.g. Not doing centroid sampling?

Haven't kept up with what modes worked when forced though.

I don't get it. If AA is already implemented in this game how hard can it be to release a hotfix that will fix this issue? I mean it can't be that hard, right? Game was reelased 2 weeks ago.

Finally got a chance to play it. No tearing, no framedrops, no jaggies. Smooth as butter and very sharp. Very pleased with this port.

Are you using AO?

Nah, disabled it all the way.

edit: I think I just solved my problem. Was using the in game vsync and disabled it, maintaining a decent 60 with frequent drops to low 50s in this specific scene. Much better than when it kept dropping to 30, that sucked. Guess it uses double buffer or something.

for the record it was this scene

Ah yes, I solved my issues with frame drops by disabling ingame vsync and using D3DO Overrider to force Triple Buffering Vsync instead, works great.

Since the patch is supposedly coming soon, I had a few questions. First off, how do I use ReShade to make the game look better? Also, is there a downloadable macro for the QTEs? Mashing has never been my strong suit, and apparently the QTEs are a little harder on this version due to the more consistent framerate.

What DSR setting would you guys use on a 25" 1440p monitor with a 1070?

I like my image to be crisp, so the less blur the better. I would just use native res + 16xMSAA if it actually worked lol

It's true. Playing Nier A so much messed with me a bit. Went back to it for a bit and feels so slow compared to Bayonetta I can't believe it. Then there's other stuff like enemies making it beyond obvious when you have to dodge, whereas in Bayo it might be a bit too difficult to tell sometimes.

Man Bayonetta is still so awesome, I really missed it. Had been some time since I last played it, and the only version I've previously owned was on PS3, so it had its own set of issues. I'll never really fully grasp the game's mechanics but I have enough fun as it is.

I do wish there was a code to unlock everything or at least give me a bunch of money. :P

Go to Cardinal Temperance with Selene's Light and Gaze of Despair equipped, Durga on hands, Ice skates on feet. (No Immortal Marrionette garbage lol, destroys combo/halo farming). Then grind that boss like 10-15 times, just tank everything and use Selene's light to use Witch Time as much as possible. You should easily get a 9999 w/ 9.9 modifier this way on his final form. And you should have more than enough halos for the Climax Brace at that point.

Then, equip that and Gaze of Despair, same weapons and enter the 1st Alfheim in the Burning Ground chapter. And just keep smacking the crap out of the enemies till you get the 9999 x9.9 and keep going till the times runs out and you fail, rinse and repeat. You'll get 10-50 Mill Halo's in literally no time flat.

Then of course just hit the phone booths and start unlocking stuff!

Just download ReShade from reshade.me, run the installer. It may ask you to download several shaders, click yes.

When you start the game it takes ReShade a couple of seconds to be ready, you'll see information at the top of the screen. After that you can do a tutorial on how this works.
Set up a new profile, everything you activate will be saved there.
Set hotkeys for effects, usefull for performance heavy effects or if they don't work in certain environments. Simply turn them on/off with a buttonpress.

Shift+F2 brings up the overlay. Holding ctrl and scrolling with the mousewheel will make the font bigger. Useful for when you run in higher resolutions and the font becomes too small to read.

Yeah I did the first one earlier, after my post. I remember doing it on PS3, but I could only muster 300k on each run or so. I'm getting a million per run on PC for some reason. No complaints though. :P Two runs was enough to buy everything Rodin was selling.

The second one though, you need all Umbran Tears to buy the Climax Brace. I don't think I'm up for that.

It's not really good for farming but if you find yourself doing Chapter II later for some reason anyway, use the Kilgore glitch on the 'boss' can give you a few hundred K easy to a mill. The Climax Bracelet can be bought from the cheat phones as well without doing the Umbran Tears.

The game has actual cheat codes to unlock the super hidden stuff like that and the nunchakus without fulfilling the crazy requirements, actually. You have to go to the phone booths in chapter 2 and do a modified version of the Konami code. See here.

I'm curious about the macros too. Apparently Steam BPM lets you configure turbo?

Dunno how to set it up tho. Would love some detailed instructions

Oh great, thanks.

You mentioned the nunchakus but AFAIK the nunchakus are the only weapon that's not unlockable using cheats

I'm trying to get the Wii U exclusive costumes over and no matter what I do it's just not showing up. I've found Link, from the Wii U files, and I've tried replacing the Bayonetta model in the original files but no matter what I do she just looks normal in game.

Guess I'll have to wait for someone with more knowledge than me to release a mod tool.
Have you tried to replace one of the alt costumes in the game with the Wii U costume instead?

Is this game broken all of a sudden for anyone else? I was able to play it at a locked 60fps on day one. Loaded it up the other day and now it's bouncing from the low 30s to 60fps at 1080p.

Running on a 6700k, 1070, and 16GB of memory.

Have you tried turning off vsync?

I wonder is it true what many ppl are talking about, that Steam for some reason is causing performance problems for this game while pirated version is working great and without any performance issues. I'm seeing many ppl online are complaining about fps drops, stuttering, flickering... on some stages.

Am I alone in getting a red transparent texture appear over the faces of Jeanne and Father Balder in their respective battles?
Playing with a gtx 950 with the latest drivers, noticed it on two play throughs now.

I thought I remember someone made some Dual Shock button prompt icons for this game... Could have sworn it was in this thread, but I'm not finding it in the search... Can anyone help me out?

Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo bankrolled another Bayonetta game. Smash was good advertisement for her and Nintendo should have an exclusive action game. I think it would sell better than part 2.

I really hope this happens. Bayonetta's inclusion in Smash 4 felt like a strong indication that interest in the franchise is holding steady and perhaps increasing. And the sales of Bayonetta on PC seem to support that.

Yeah, I was going to say...

Thanks for what is obviously very relevant to the thread....
Much like this post!

Ugh, can't even imagine using the cheats to unlock weapons. Like, what would you even use the nunchucks for if you don't understand the intricacies of the combat system? That's one of the things that makes Bayo tower over the sequel imo. All the weapons have more or less the same combo/move set and at first it just feels kinda pointless, but the more of the systems you understand the more depth there is to discover in those details.

I still have no idea how to do combos with Kulshedra ugh. Only use it for crowd control. So much to learn...

It would be kind of awesome (and odd, really) for Bayonetta to end up becoming a psuedo Nintendo property, but I would absolutely love it.

In other news, this is now my third playthrough (spread over the years), and I'm finally starting to try and get fancy. As a person who didn't play DMC or any other similar games I guess you could say I was a bit behind the curve for Bayonetta, but loved the game regardless. Sadly could never do the fancy shit, and was all I could do to avoid dying, but now I'm trying to use taunts and breakdances and all that shit. Soon.

Re: Bayonetta 2 weapons -- While I'm sad that Bayo 2 in general lacks the depth of Bayo 1, I do want to say that I MASSIVELY appreciate a fucking shotgun scythe.

Hold the punch button to pull enemies toward you, or to pull yourself toward large enemies.

For the smaller ones, follow a grapple with PPPP for a combo or rotate the analog stick a lot to whirl them around you. Press P any time to release them early.

BTW, the only weapons that the cheat codes let you unlock are Bazillions, Rodin, and Pillow Talk. Bazillions is one of the most useful and fun weapons in the game. Rodin is pretty limited compared to the other weapons, but fun to mess around with, and it has an overpowered stick spin + P attack you can spam to clear the whole area. (I prefer Bayonetta 2's Rodin weapon overall. Way more useful moveset.) Pillow Talk is extremely powerful when charged, but its limited range and weak combo enders are a real drawback.

You can't unlock the nunchucks with a code.

I tried turning all the settings to the lowest setting and believe I also turned off v-sync while still running into massive framerate dips.

I'll try turning it off for sure when I get home.

It's really weird, I'm running it at 4K on a GTX 970 and it mantains 60fps most of the time with some drops to 50s here and there, your 1070 should handle 1080 very easily.

Well, new characters are new save files, so skipping the grind there makes sense (if you could, anyway). As for Sai Fung... You can beat the game on normal, hard and climax mode, platinum normal for Jean, then pure platinum Infinite Climax and you will still have to grind out ten more missions to get the damn thing, let alone if Kamiya had stuck to his guns and made it take 200 chapters to unlock. There's also the argument of the earlier the better so you can understand what it's useful for- no matter how much you've played the game it still requires experience to use.

Kusheldra I have to admit I've only used the 360 move and the PP delay P combo for crowd control, and the hold move to drag enraged enemies into the air to Sai Fung them. Which is still more of a use than I've found for Odette other than lava/ice and messing around (I am bad at video games).
