Not just pacing. Bad voice acting and soundtrack.

Old Funi dub is just unwatchable.

Truth. Funi's dub efforts back then were garbage tier. Kai is the definitive way for me to watch DBZ. I cant go back to old Freeza compared to Chris Ayres completely transforming that character to be more like his true self.

Only just now getting round to the new ep. I gotta say, the color palette or the filter just isn't sitting with me. I know it's been this way for a while but this episode looks extra washed out to me for some reason.

So no one else even wants to consider Goku vs Cell as part of the discussion

Vegeta is probably my number 2 choice, but to me that fight was more Vegeta being quite a bit more ahead until Goku had these burst moments that eventually let him push through, and he needed help at the end.

Goku vs Cell (at least in the anime) felt like he was a lot more thoroughly frustrated. Like Cell was right out of his reach the whole time, and Goku knowing that I felt gave just this more consistent base of just... exertion.

They start off testing each other out for a while, and that's already intense, but the part about it to me that sells it is the way they depict how the fight semi gradually transitions into something more serious. As the intensity increases, you can see the heightened exasperation in their facial expressions. Their movements start to speed up. There are even bits of choreography repeated later in the fight that are faster than before, and that show them with more intense facial expressions. Another crucial thing are the little moments where Goku does a mad/desperate/confused grunt after being out-maneuvered. That, along with other things and you know Goku is thinking "why the fuck can't I just break through this nigga right now?!?" The whole crescendo of the fight is very well done. If it wasn't for the Goku's energy drain I have no idea who would win, but it would be an absolutely phenomenal battle.

I don't know if that clip is easier to write off for the ones saying they don't really remember the full fight, but within the context of the rest of the fight, that section of it is amazingly fierce.

I definitely don't see Beerus as being in the discussion because I think the one who is going to give you the best fight is going to be the one who is actually around your level. Beerus and Goku reminds me of a good casual player 1v1ing a good pro player in a fighting game. Yeah, the pro can hold back, make it seem like it's a good fight, but he wins at the end and everyone knows the casual player never had a chance in the first place. By far my best and most mentally/physically taxing fights have been with people who are either on my level or slightly better than me.

How can people hate the DBZ fillers. It gave us gold nuggets such as the Piccolo and Goku getting their drivers license!

And then there's episode 288 that gave us these moments:

(Ignore the bad gif quality ;-;)

I would say the 22nd Tourney Tenshinhan fight is the best for all-around art & hand-to-hand choreography (though Ma Jr. is also good.)

The Vegeta fight is really effective since it's a rare instance of the characters actually getting weaker as the fight goes on, plus an uncommon battle that's not 1-on-1. It fits in with the whole premise of "Every fighter combined isn't enough to stop the two of them."

(This is in terms of the manga)

Only thing I remember about the cell vs good fight is that badass instant transmission kamahameha
I remember never knowing how to trigger that in Budokai 3, and that always made me mad.
I was so happy when Super did it in the Toppo fight.

The one thing that upset me with that fight is for the 4th time they forgot he could regenerate.

Cell destroying the ring and saying it's a fight to the death was badass.

It would have been funny if Cell fell out of the ring, and then everyone chairs only for Cell to get back in and fighting Goku again.

Then goes: "What did you think was going to happen if there was a ring out"?

goku vs cell is bad imho because neither side really tires

obvs Goku gives Cell a senzu in one of the most infamous moments in the series, but if you somehow skipped that scene, you wouldn't be able to tell that Cell was tired. or Goku for that matter

it's a very "tell, don't show" moment. the characters are telling us it is a very even fight but for all we know, both were holding back massively cause neither looks worse. Goku has a small hole in his gi and some dirt on his face, and that's all. Cell of course is intact

first Vegeta vs Goku fight is prime Dragon Ball cause both sides are destroyed to complete exhaustion. everyone in that fight can barely walk at the end. The fight is won because Krillin is healthy enough to limp towards Vegeta with a sword in hand. you can feel that everyone is giving their utmost effort

That remains the best tournament in the series. The Buu saga tournament was also really hype while it lasted up to and including Gohan going SSJ 2 in front of Kabito after Videl got the shit kicked out of her.

Goku vs Cell was no doubt a fun fight to watch, but never gave me the feeling that Cell brought Goku into the deep waters during their battle like Frieza or Beerus did.

I agree with that, I just feel like it's more frustrating and mentally taxing in a way when you know your opponent is right out of your reach the whole time.

I think what takes away from the Cell fight for some is that Goku always has a backup plan with Gohan. Where in say Frieza arc, he has no back up plan, and almost accepts death when he's drowning.

That's some messed up logic to have

Well, it's more or less true.

You're gonna have to refresh my memory, but I thought Vegeta was dead for only a couple days. He killed himself, Goku asked for the time for Goten and Trunks to train, all of the fights with, majin buu happen, then Vegeta gets brought back during the kid buu fight when they ask Porunga to revive all of the good people.

As others pointed out, I was talking about real time. In the Buu Saga, after Vegeta died, it was around a year that he returned to the manga.

I like this post

Yes, but now he's more alone than he's ever been! Surrounded by people but with no one to love him! So funny!

Yamcha was always a lone wolf, with Puar for sole companion, who's basically a talking pet.

Having a family isn't everybody's goal >_> ...

I hope that somewhere down the line we get a small retelling of the Goku Black arc, along with better animation and choreography, they could do wonders for it.

Why? And movie retellings of story arcs don't do that well. One Piece movies 8 and 9 had low numbers because they were retellings, although movie 9 was a What If.

Say what you will about Yamcha, but he always had the coolest original techniques.

I kinda hate how he's become a self-aware joke now. It's ok to jibe him occasionally, but he's on the route to being totally Flanderized.

It's a universal buff that anyone can benefit from. If there wasnt such a miniscule amount of time left before the tournament, I'd be questioning why beerus hasn't ordered whis to train up U7's squad to at least understand the concept at least a basic level.

Because Whis only trains those who can become Gods of Destruction. Not fodder.

Cell fight only looked even because cell wasnt taking it serious. He was massively holding back against goku.

Yamcha is pretty much the Japanese version of TFS Krillin.

Once you get that low there's no coming back.

It has been brought up before but the heroes haven't won a single time in Super.
Battle of Gods: Beerus won
Resurrection F: Freeza won, time travel fuckery needed to get a redo.
Champa Arc: Ended in a tie, but Goku was only like 20 seconds away from his body giving out anyway.
Future Trunks Arc: Everyone died.
At this point, it will actually be a change of pace if U7 ends up winning, never mind worrying about who will get the final kill.

Frieza lost. Goku only repaid Frieza back for cheated earlier.

Goku was holding back and he was clearly winded. Cell was holding back, a lot.
