Now if only they can give him a decent hair style and his own clothing to fight in.

But things are definitely going in the right direction again.

Something that really impressed me about the writing in Super was how Piccolo took a major fan complaint (how devastatingly disappointing Gohan's loss to Buu was) put a story spin on it (Gohan gets sloppy/arrogant in fights) and used it as a training point. As fans, we get that the story decided to go back to having Goku be the main character, leaving Gohan with nothing left to do but job to Buu. But Super put a different spin on the situation and made really good use of Gohan's loss to Buu here

88 is one of the best episodes from a story/character development perspective because of this.

Agreed, actually acknowledging things that happened and explaining it in a canon way is really nice

I wonder what the end goal is for Gohan. Just a filler to be part of the team or will he be the main focus?

There's a point where we see Goku,Gohan and Vegeta all flying together in the op, which makes me believe those 3 will get the most focus

I can't imagine he would have such a big role so far only to be pushed back later on

All the half-Saiyans have shown themselves to be just as good or better than Gohan. Trunks and Goten reached Super Saiyan without trying while Gohan had to struggle and Future Trunks blew Gohan out of the water last arc.

I feel it's more like, once a Saiyan sees it. It becomes easier for others to follow. Ala SSJ, followed with Vegeta and Gohan much easier. With Goten and Trunks following even easier. Once SSJ2 was achieved, then Vegeta and Goku didn't have much trouble following. Same with SSJ3. Even with Red, Vegeta was behind Goku, but managed to catch up with Blue.

I don't feel like it's Trunks and Goten are inherently more powerful, but unlike Goku and Vegeta. They have much more powerful teachers and people who've come before them. So the path is already trended while the first time with SSJ was just a pure fluke.

Yeah, plus other than being able to get SSJ easy, has Goten or Trunks been shown to have more potential than Gohan?

No, despite being the two youngest super saiyans ever, Gohan is still said to have the highest potential of all the saiyans we've seen so far

Although, I don't think we've ever heard that from anyone besides goku, piccolo, and Vegeta

Elder Kai and Guru say that Gohan has great potential, but we never hear it in comparison to any other character

They're definitely setting him up as one of the major players. He's getting a ton of character development between getting back up to par/beyond, he helped select/recruit the Universe 7 team and Goku is putting a lot of faith in him. Gohan really seems to have stepped into the second main character role again this arc.

I doubt it, otherwise Gohan should of had a easier time transforming. He was training with his dad for three years and never ascended. And Vegeta never got Super Saiyan 3. Vegeta caught up because of Whis and it took six months.

Trunks and Goten are inherently more powerful. Without really trying they surpassed all the Saiyans, including Gohan who worked his butt off. Goten and Trunks didn't get teach until the Buu Saga and everyone was shocked by how powerful they were. They didn't follow anyone.

He got major hype during the Buu Saga. Remember how that ended.

All that hype and it ended how fast again? LOL, such a quick turnaround.

After this most recent episode it feels like they're actively trying to avoid another Super Buu situation though. We'll just have to see.

The hype is still there for many. I am being jaded.

This happens every arc when people are sure a certain character will get hype or play a major role and it almost never happened. Like Vegeta will kill Goku Black or Gohan will play a part in the Future Trunks Saga like Trunks giving him a prep talk to get him training.

It's certain as the sun raising in the east.

True, but we have to remember that Toriyama is also a troll. Future Trunks got a lot of stuff and while he got many cool scenes his timeline still ended up going 'boom' and made basically everything he gained meaningless.

Was expecting Piccolo and Gohan to enter the time chamber given how they were speaking at the end of the episode.

Episode felt like the equivalent of cramming the night before an exam lol.

I think he will be co-star/co-hero this arc similar to how future trunks was last arc, but I don't know if he will remain in that position beyond that. Mainly because he has already been limited on screen time in the previous arc to save strain on his aging VA who already has a large workload taking on the main character. That, and I don't think he is the 2nd most popular fan favorite or toei favorite character. I don't think he will be completely sidelined where he barely is even in the show like he was in super up until now though.

Gohan wasn't benched last arc because of Nozawa. He was benched because Toriyama didn't want used him. Toei gave Gohan a lot of screen time while in the Super manga Gohan haven't been seen since the Battle of Gods storyline.

And he really isn' the co-star next to Future Trunks, since Trunks was in every episode in his saga while Gohan hasn't. Also, Gohan usually rank third.

Gohan will finally get his W here, this arc. They've spent way too much time on him, while Vegeta has been pushed back.

I was referring to a herms tweet concerning ep 69 that said:
"Sadly, Gohan and Goten won't be in this episode at all. Nozawa requested this, since at the moment she's a bit tired from playing Goku Black"
Not necessarily the previous arc but it sounds like something was deliberately left out because of Nozawa.

Should have fired her. Would have made a lot of people happy. :]]]

I think they should have given adult gohan a different VA, but that's easy to say when you're a dub scrub and they already sound different in the English version.

As already said, it wasn't Nozawa who kept him off-screen. If anything Toei's been the one pushing for him to come back because he's very popular among fans and gets top treatment along with Goku and Vegeta in games/merchandise.

They really should have another arc like cell that benches goku and the rest of the heroes have to stop him without goku's help.

I'm thinking more Vegeta saga style, where Goku fights Jiren and loses, and the rest of the team have to gang up and take him down even knowing that they're horribly outmuscled. Android 17, Gohan, and maybe Buu can take turns being the meatshields. Krillin, Piccolo, Tien, and Roshi can try out techniques to end the fight. Dunno what 18 and Vegeta does. I guess Vegeta can job.

This moment is one of my favorite ones in all of Dragon Ball. The music, the mystery, everything was amazing. Growing up with the original score was a blessing.
They should try and play similar unique (lol considering the plagiarism) tunes during key moments in Super.

I grew up watching the English dub unfortunately.

Going back and watching the original Japanese dub really opened my mind as to how much they change in the English dub - so much that I can't really watch it anymore.

I would love this! I am also feeling how much love 17 is getting via the promotional materials. :)

I just watched the latest hype trailer. I wonder if there is any hidden meaning behind the way the fighter are numbered in the trailer? Also where is everyone making there DB avatars? I want to join in on the fun! :(
