Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

I thought I remember someone made some Dual Shock button prompt icons for this game... Could have sworn it was in this thread, but I'm not finding it in the search... Can anyone help me out?

I recall Garrett Hawke was looking into it but I don't know if such a mod was completed/released.

Didn't like that flying rocket mission lol.

I think I'm on the final boss and not sure if its worth it to complete.

Thought that little kid arc was super telegraphed.

Wished there was more roaming around and fighting.

Because the mob fights were great. Boss fights I didn't care for.

Plus as a guy who doesn't use a controller much dang, my thumb!

Well, new characters are new save files, so skipping the grind there makes sense (if you could, anyway). As for Sai Fung... You can beat the game on normal, hard and climax mode, platinum normal for Jean, then pure platinum Infinite Climax and you will still have to grind out ten more missions to get the damn thing, let alone if Kamiya had stuck to his guns and made it take 200 chapters to unlock. There's also the argument of the earlier the better so you can understand what it's useful for- no matter how much you've played the game it still requires experience to use.

Kusheldra I have to admit I've only used the 360 move and the PP delay P combo for crowd control, and the hold move to drag enraged enemies into the air to Sai Fung them. Which is still more of a use than I've found for Odette other than lava/ice and messing around (I am bad at video games).

My point was that Scarborough Fair alone has so much depth that you could finish a full playthrough of all difficulties and still have more to learn about it. Why feel the need to unlock everything prior to understanding even the basics?

Your point about other characters is very good though, didn't think of that. Odette is great but I'm having a hard time figuring out the combo timings of the Hold moves. Just need to use it more I guess. Freezing a paired enemy is insanely useful.

The game has actual cheat codes to unlock the super hidden stuff like that and the nunchakus without fulfilling the crazy requirements, actually. You have to go to the phone booths in chapter 2 and do a modified version of the Konami code. See here.

Yep, that's what I was referring to about getting the Climax Brace, then just going back to the phones after that with mill's of Halo's to unlock everything. lol

stuck at Jeanne's second fight. i think i am supposed to wait for Wicked Weave and doge. what is that, the hair attack? this fight is tough.

There's a Cheat Engine table that allows you to just edit how many chapters the game thinks you've cleared, so you can just unlock the Sai-Fung at the beginning of the game instead of at the end when you've exhausted all the content. I went ahead and did it on my PC save file since I already did the legit grind for that weapon years ago. Someone also made a code where you can have the Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa always active so you can put something else in that accessory slot. Probably not the best thing to do if you're going to upload runs on Youtube unless you're transparent about it, but it will open up new customization possibilities for sure.

I want someone to port the Nintendo costumes, the weird effects and all, if they can haha.

Go to Cardinal Temperance with Selene's Light and Gaze of Despair equipped, Durga on hands, Ice skates on feet. (No Immortal Marrionette garbage lol, destroys combo/halo farming). Then grind that boss like 10-15 times, just tank everything and use Selene's light to use Witch Time as much as possible. You should easily get a 9999 w/ 9.9 modifier this way on his final form. And you should have more than enough halos for the Climax Brace at that point.

Then, equip that and Gaze of Despair, same weapons and enter the 1st Alfheim in the Burning Ground chapter. And just keep smacking the crap out of the enemies till you get the 9999 x9.9 and keep going till the times runs out and you fail, rinse and repeat. You'll get 10-50 Mill Halo's in literally no time flat.

Then of course just hit the phone booths and start unlocking stuff!

Just did your second method, ended up with 80 million halos in five minutes, lol. Never seen that method elsewhere, thanks! I guess now I have to not use all of the crap I have unlocked huh. :P This is actually my third or fourth Bayonetta run, but I had never really bothered farming halos like that. First time seeing Father Rodin, man that dude hits hard, I'm not sure I'll be able to beat him.

No prob, man. Just a old school Bayo 1 vet halo farming trick. :P Pretty much do it on all chars to get access to all weapons 1st PT on Normal, before going into later diff. Plus, it's nice to just buy everything from Rodin quickly too.

And CE just for halo farming is beyond scrub-like, just do what Jett did, ain't hard. Although I'd welcome costume mods (even full nudity but only when doing weaves/climax), only thing CE would be useful is Sai-Fung even though I already unlocked by grinding+clearing diff's.

P.S. For Plat Ticket/Father Rodin a easy cheese method is Climax Brace+Sergey's Lover, and just use Pillow Talk+Killgore to crush him in literal seconds if you're good/lucky enough at dodging. Or...just also equip the Immortal Mary and it's pure Ninja Dog. haha

P.P.S. REALLY wish they would have added about 10 new achievements for Steam, that were for the people who really invested into the depths of the combat system and are masters. So there would be real incentive to master all types of offsets and push the system exploits to their limit. Which is where the real longevity and reward of this game is imo. Also really wanted a "Bloody Palace" type thing...maybe a "Bloody Heaven" or w/e for Bayo. But yeah, we need that mod at the very least.

Too bad about the vsync but thanks, overall it sounds good.

The implementation of vsync in the game is double-buffered, so you get erratic performance and judder if your machine can't keep making frames every 16.7ms.
Turn it off in the game and force Nvidia's vsync on using the Nvidia Control Panel.

As a person who didn't play DMC or any other similar games I guess you could say I was a bit behind the curve for Bayonetta, but loved the game regardless. Sadly could never do the fancy shit, and was all I could do to avoid dying, but now I'm trying to use taunts and breakdances and all that shit. Soon.

Same here. And I think of myself as a technical twitch reaction player, I play some musou and fighting games. I played bayo1 back on the 360 and couldn't do any of the technical stuff like in youtube videos.

I just did one playthrough on normal and never used any other weps like the sword or whip.

As a guy who doesn't use a controller much dang, my thumb!

Usually I would use controller for this game, but I'm playing mouse n keyboard just to see how far I can progress and to my surprise I've yet to come across anything that I feel would have problems with.

Kinda surprising actually, of all games, and this coming from someone who plays musous and other action games with a custom controller with extra buttons connected to a cronus max.

meh

Purchased the game a few days ago and am really enjoying it. It runs great on my laptop if I turn the resolution down a little. Glad to support Sega and Platinum.

Does anyone know if this game is available through Steam Family Sharing? I thought Sega normally allowed it but I didn't see it on my sibling's account.

If the game industry has taught me anything, it is to simply wait a month or two or three before buying stuff.
You get to work on your backlog longer, get to play a better, more finished game, and for cheaper as well.

Yet most people on GAF still pre-order, and get mad at you if you suggest you probably shouldn't.

I mean, you're not wrong in general but honestly there's nothing really egregious about this port. Pretty much every PC game ever has some day 1 issues for some people, that's just the reality of developing for a myriad of different systems/configurations, especially on a limited budget.

It's not like they'd make posts like that on the Steam forum if they planned on abandoning it.

Isn't the Angel Slayer lost chapter Bayonetta's version of the Bloody Palace?

Hopefully the patch addresses the broken QTEs for Jeane. That shit is damn near impossible to complete successfully without macro'ing it. That and GSYNC not working are my only complaints so far.

Never played this since I heard the PS3 version had really bad performance issues. On chapter 6 right now and Im loving it to the point of thinking about saving up money to buy a Wii U to play B2. Help me

I'm planning on just using the emulator, might not be perfect yet but it'll get there

It works but imo it's completely unplayable ATM because the sound just does not work. Like, at all, it just screeches at you. So even though the game works and runs okay it's not playable for a first timer.

Yeah, the QTE mashing requiring about 10% more inputs than the 360 version is an obvious area they need to fix. There's also some major issues with the Steam API destroying performance (getting frame dives whenever a score pops up, for example). And while I'm not expecting a real fix from Platinum, I hope some fans whip together a hack for the framerate to get it to run at an actual 60 instead of 59.9whatever.

The port is in fairly good shape already, it wouldn't take Platinum that much effort to polish it up. Whether they'll actually bother is a bit of a question mark, but I'm optimistic.

Great video!

One thing they didn't mention is that, on Normal difficulty, Grace and Glory won't tag team you. If one of them is close to you (even if it's because you're wailing on it), then the other will keep its distance. They tend to swap which one of them is "attacking" fairly frequently, though, so it gives the impression of both of them attacking you even if only one is ever swinging at a given time.

I can't remember where I read it, but I think that Platinum once said that G&G were the first enemies they implemented in the game, but they were so tough that no one could beat them. That's why they made the AI more "fair" for Normal mode.

Another thing that they didn't mention is that many enemies won't attack you from off screen. A few long ranged enemies break the rules, and Bayo2 tends to be a lot worse about it, but Bayo1 adheres to it most of the time.

I'm also glad that they dragged Bayo2, because the combat in that game had a TON of problems they people didn't rag on because they were too busy gushing that the sequel didn't have any QTEs. Lumen Sage might legit be the worst boss that Platinum has ever created in terms of fairness and fun. It's shocking that they made such a horrendous boss after how exceptional Jeanne was in the first game.

(Jubileus Almighty, please let Bayo3 be better than Bayo2)

Yeah, the QTE mashing requiring about 10% more inputs than the 360 version is an obvious area they need to fix.

You can actually measure how many inputs you've done to the QTE via the combo gauge. I haven't checked it in depth, but I'm pretty sure that it's the same as the other versions.

The QTEs might actually be harder on the PC because people are running at a consistently higher frame rate. I haven't found them harder than they were on the 360, but that might be because I don't think my laptop is running at a locked 60 lol. I'll turn on the frame rate next time and see what it's hovering around for me.

Isn't the Angel Slayer lost chapter Bayonetta's version of the Bloody Palace?

Well, sorta I guess, but not entirely the same. Sort of wanted that same kind of thing Bloody Palace offered. Or just a ramping up diff arena that's sort of a survival mode, and endless enemies and score/combo LB's of course, no down time. Would be my perfect "Bloody Heaven".

Yeah Lumen Sage was rough, but Bayo 2
Rodin
was some next-level bullshit. Is it even Pure Platinumable? lol

I haven't gone back to test 360 myself, but I know inputs I could easily manage on 360 (ex: the wheel kick torture attack with the B button) have literally been impossible for me on PC. Other players have actually checked numbers and got about 10% lower counts on PC. Obviously it's possible this isn't necessarily a universal problem, but it's definitely hitting a bunch of us.

(I unfortunately lost my Bayonetta 360 save ages ago, so it would be extremely time consuming for me to test this.)

Yeah, I can confirm that I haven't ever managed to perfect the wheel kick torture attack on the PC version while it was easily manageable on PC.

so has anyone managed to magically hexedit a thing so you can fight jeanne without having to fucking play space harrier first

or modded in an infinite fight mode

He says enemies don't wait their turn but that's clearly wrong. In normal difficulty 2 enemies will never attack you at the same time. In fact they behave exactly like in the Arkham series where all the enemies will wait until one of them has finished its attack.

I'll have to rewatch the video but I think he said that G&G take turns on Normal mode specifically.

Not that I know of, if you look at the code in a disassembler you can find strings for the debug menu and it's probably possible to do that if someone would find out if that is still accessible in some way or form (probably not though).

You can beat the space harrier stage then quit to the main menu and make a backup copy of the save file. Cumbersome but it should work.

You can use cheat engine to give any enemies on screen no health loss/god mode for practicing purposes. Someone had a link earlier in the thread.

This, the removal of the motorbike level and the removal of the piss filter would improve the game so much.

I tried to think of a redeeming quality about route 666 and I was about to say triple gracious/glorious but then I remembered there's fucking annoying cars hitting you all the time if you stay on the ground. Kamiya pls. At least getting hit by cars doesn't seem to affect your pure plat rating in motorbike sections.
