Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 |OT| Anyone can save the galaxy once - SPOILERS!

I think I was disappointed. Seemed like a lot of it was trying too hard to make jokes and a lot of them fell flat. Some people laughed by my theater seemed pretty quiet on that front.

Also, two people were left floating in space and survived in the last one and this one they die? There's a lot of inconsistencies that happened in this movie that just threw me out of it.

Gamora is an augmented being, Peter was half celestial. Bit different to Yondu. Don't blame the film because you forgot plot points.

Definitely disappointing.

It went from an action/comedy to a straight comedy with a few action pieces added in.
The entire movie was jokes, most of which weren't good (though admittedly I did get a few laughs in) and there was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much Groot oversaturation.

They went full-on memes and fan service with this movie and not in a good way. It came off as trying way too hard but I know reddit and imgur and tumblr are going to eat it up and they'll keep going for that cringeworthy aesthetic in the future.

It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't good either.

The first was far better.

Peter couldn't pull off the trick he pulled in #1. It was explicitly calling back to it.

Couldn't help but wonder if somehow the Zune aftermarket booms because of this. I just picture people being like "What's a Zune?" and have to have one. How perfect would that be? lol
My brother name dropped his Zune before we saw the flick last night saying he wished his still worked.

After coming out he said that joke pissed him off because everyone makes fun of the Zune but he felt it was a great device. I started dying because I actually didn't take it as a joke and thought it was an alternative to Apple and they couldn't/didn't want to get the rights.

Pretty much.

Peter was pulled into a ship at the last second and reasonably quick, but Yondu's death scene ended with the camera pulling back with no ship in sight, it felt implied he was in space for much longer than Peter was.

For me it was a bit like The Winter Soldier, in that I think this is a better film than the first one, but kinda by cheating because they'd already done a lot of the character set-up in the first film so could get on with things in this one.

I can see that the 'action' count is a bit lower which will leave some people disappointed, but the 'feels' count was much higher, and I think it's a better film because of it.

It was definitely a loud movie but it matched the idea of the gang fighting a planet. Disappointed that the planet itself didn't emote.

I liked it the first time, maybe I'll see it again with one of those comfy chair theaters.

Loved Baby Groot deadface vomiting. lmao

I agree with this assessment. I was pretty disappointed with the film. A lot of the jokes fell flat, and the movie was just too joke dense in general. Any serious moment was undercut by a gag to the point where at times it felt tonally more like a parody film than a straight comedy. I didn't mid he Groot usage but I thought there was a huge overuse of classic rock songs. There was a need to find a way to have a dietetic soundtrack for ever action scene, even when it didn't really make sense, just because people liked that in the first movie.

Overall it wasn't a bad movie or anything, and some gags and scenes were great, but as a whole film I was underwhelmed.

Props to Tyler Bates also for once again proving Marvel films are capable of having an excellent original score. Have they announced who's scoring Infinity War yet? I really hope it's not Henry Jackman. I loved his Winter Soldier work but his stuff in Civil War was far too muted.

I liked it but didn't love it for many of the reasons posted on this page.

The movie felt a little too lengthy to me and too joke heavy because many of the jokes just didn't work. Batista got that deadpan humor on lockdown but you don't need to do every scene of his like that.

I went into the movie thinking it would be to jokey going off reports. I didn't find it anymore jokey than the first. And people saying the emotional and quiet parts were undercut by immediate comedy is just wrong. They let the emotional scenes be emotional.. just because the movie doesn't stay on that note for an extended period of time doesn't mean it didn't have time to sink in.

When Peter learns Ego killed his mother his reaction was one of the most realistic and justified knee-jerk reactions I ever seen in a movie it was very emotional. People in the theater were going "KILL HIM!!"

I also loved how they used the Awesome Mix in this film; the song choice itself might not be the strongest, but the use of the music itself, particularly during the "Arrow" scene was great. Also how Ego twists the lyrics of "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) for his own ends.

Honestly the more I think about it, and with two viewings under my belt, there's an argument for me for this to be my personal MCU favourite. Civil War had that crown previously, but the characters are just better developed in Guardians, there's no question.

Also love Rocket in this, he's just an asshole, but Yondu called him out. I hope in Guardians 3 they go more into his backstory than just the hints.

My friend who had a zune felt the same way.

So, THR posted this article about Russell's mini speech to Peter and Drax as to what he is:
It's just one throwaway exchange in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. If it were any other movie studio, it would be easily ignored — but this is Marvel, where hints and nods and Easter eggs can later unfold into something else entirely.

In discussing how he has his own planet, Ego (Kurt Russell) tells Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista) that he's a celestial. "Small c," he clarifies, when the subject of whether or not that makes him a deity or not is raised — which is something that may or may not be important, depending on how you feel about punctuation.

But doesn't Ego actually say he's a god, with a small "g"? Or did I completely mishear?

Pretty much how I felt about it.

Basically Ego was saying he's a celestial in name, but not power or in the same way as THE Celestial.

But there are many celestials. I think it was either a reference to not piss off religious viewers or a nod that there is an overarching actual God in the MCU, like a tier higher than celestials.

Probably the first being a Disney movie and all.

It didn't vibe with me the way the first did but the Yondu scenes were all really strong. Easily my favorite parts of the movie.
