Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

what that was really open world? did it had day and night cycle and weather system?
Yup! Not a particularly massive world, but open-world nonetheless. I know for sure it didn't have a day/night cycle aaaaand I don't know about weather. I didn't actually play it myself, only watched my roommate for a bit. My guess is no.

Fuck man don't do this to me.

I just had an amazing idea for a trailer. So with the Crash trilogy remaster, they haven't shown Crash Warped at all. At their E3 press conference, they show a Crash trailer focusing on it, showing off basically the whole game. At the end of the trailer, the original Crash Warped menu screen comes up with a PS1 controller. The controller presses Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square.

Boom. Spyro trilogy remaster announced.

Is Insomniac big enough to work on Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank at the same time?

I doubt it.

According to their website they've got 229 employees ('About this company', about 1/6 of the page down). We know that it's their biggest team ever working on Spider-Man, but I would guess that'll still leave ~80 people free to work on other stuff. Assuming they have some smaller games bring worked on like Song of the Deep and their VR one, that could leave a small pre-production team designing the next Ratchet game. R&C2016 was pretty popular and seemingly successful so I expect Sony will have ordered another.

It'd be strange for it to be Spider-Man. Why wouldn't Greg just be able to check it out at Insomniac's Burbank studio, which is much closer to where he lives, rather than their NC one? Bryan Intihar is the creative director on the project and he works at the Burbank studio.

It could be an event day at their main studio where they invited lots of members of the press to play it ahead of E3?

A day/night cycle and a dynamic weather system for Spider-Man would be awesome.

I really hope that you can go to your apartment to take your suit off etc, Sogood gif.

So Greg Miller's trip to NC is Spider-Man related afterall..?

https://twitter.com/GameOverGreggy/status/861061747221741568

hmmm, thats too much on the nose. I still dont think its that

How about Resistance? Sony doesn't have a first person shooter anymore. They won't abnadon that market would they? If Insomniac doesn't have a big team left for a new entry they might remake the first Resistance in R&C 2016 style.

I don't think Greg's visit is Spider-Man related despite the Gif. Why would he call it a secret project? plus Greg like to throw people off with stuff like that.

Their FPS efforts are on VR now (RIGS, Farpoint, StarBlood Arena)

They have deals for CoD, Destiny and Battlefront, the biggest FPS's on the market, no need to worry about this genre right now tbh

Is Insomniac big enough to work on Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank at the same time?

Probably. The two studios have created games simultaneously in the past. If memory serves correct, they announced both Resistance 3 and Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One on the same day, and released both games in a span of 19 days.

Last year they released 5 games, Ratchet & Clank, Song of the Deep, and 3 Oculus Rift titles.

Since they opened the North Carolina studio in '08, they've seem to have been focusing on a larger AAA title, like Resistance and Sunset Overdrive, out of Burbank, and the R&C titles out of NC. According to their R&C PS4 post mortem, they've been doing some cross-country collaboration.

My Spider-Sense says you don't got to North Carolina to see Spider-Man. I think there's a herring in that red spider suit.

On the other hand, Spider-Man does look very ambitious, and visually stunning, so it may be an all hands on deck situation.

Regardless, a R&C announcement at some point in the not to distant future is pretty much inevitable. I hope we find out something soon, and I hope it's a completely new story.

But, in any case, whatever Insomniac puts out, I'm there Day 1.

If by some work of magic Death Stranding is ready to show a gameplay demo that will open the show. If not, then either Bloodborne 2 if it's happening, or Spider-Man if BB2 isn't a thing

I think I said something similar few days ago, minus the DS part.was...BB2, or Spiderman if BB2 is not a thing ,for the opening.

For the closing RDR2, specially if last years rumors were true.

TLOU2 I don't think will be there. ND will want the focus on the dlc and there's also Days Gone, which I think will get another big push, and prolly don't want TLOU2 casting a shadow. So probably will be opening PSX.

I think DS will be there too but in what form? I guess if there was a playable demo it should be deserving of an opening/closing spot...but I think is too early for that. And another CGI tràiler could be frowend upon So mb they'll skip his one and have a playable demo closing psx.

Nobody mentions Shenmue III anymore. I think it's time we see gameplay from that and I could definitely see it opening the show like The Last Guardian did in 2015.

I think we will see Shenmue III at Sony's conference but no way it opens the show. It's a relatively small budget third party game (unlike TLG which was a long gestating first party game) and there are way more likely candidates to open like Spider-Man's first gameplay demo, Bloodborne II if it's happening or Destiny 2 since Sony opened with Destiny 1 in the year it came out (among other reasons they'd open with Destiny 2).

I think Sony's best bet is to expand the main studios. With Bruce Straley returning to Naughty Dog soon, surely he'll have his own project. Having 2 concurrent projects at Naughty Dog and Santa Monica would be good.

I know Japan Studio is pretty big and does that.

Greg said there was no way in fuck we'd see that game this year. Happened around the time we first saw that video surface earlier this year. He was kinda pissed people found it b/c he thought it'd lend false credence to the idea the game has a chance of hitting this year.

I kind of concur tbh. That game's 2018. Still doesn't even have a name lol.

What video?
(and what Greg?)

They both did at one point or another. Uncharted 3 and TLoU were primarily developed by two teams. And Santa Monica has had God of War (PS4) going for around 5 years, concurrent with Stig's cancelled IP.

With development times ballooning from 2-3 years to often times 5+ years, I'd love to see 2 team studios. The PS4 has had a handful of great games, but they've been a lot slower to come.

In the PS3s first 5 years we had 3 Uncharteds, 3 Resistances, 3 Ratchet & Clanks, 2 InFamouses (InFami? - I'm not sure what the plural is.), 2 LittleBigPlanets, and 2 Killzones. By the five year mark of the PS4, we will have 2 Knacks (as well as 2 IPs from Guerrilla, hopefully 2 IPs from Sucker Punch, and maybe a few more surprises) But I think we may be seeing the end of trilogies fitting within a console cycle, which I always thought was a great release structure.

I think with rising development costs, it might not be as easy to have two teams as it was in previous generations, but I'd certainly like to see more games in general being released more frequently.

Hard to talk about it when there's nothing yet to talk about. =P

There's nothing to talk about with most of the games we talk about in here.

hmmm, thats too much on the nose. I still dont think its that

What if it's too obvious because he wants you to think it's too obvious? Huh?

Seriously though, with how successful R&C 2016 was, a new R&C seems obvious but I hope they up the production values on it, with a larger team and more time. I loved R&C 2016 but I can understand the complaints over the recycled weapons, worlds and so on.

Screw the people who complained about the story though. Ratchet was a total asshole in the original R&C, making him likeable was the best thing about the remake.

That seemed like the plan a few years ago but it seems to have been dropped after the troubles Uncharted 4 and SSM's new IP encountered. Naughty Dog have already said a couple of times that they're sticking with their current 1.25 team structure (one game in full production and a second game in pre-production). Guerrilla's KZ Shadow Fall creative team seem to have been merged into the Horizon team. And we haven't heard of anything from SSM post-cancellation and layoffs, outside of the ex-dev team leaving the studio.

lol for real we went like a page and a half speculating on a game that will never be(DMC5)

Saving this post. You will be ashamed of your words and deeds.

Sony doesn't really open with third party stuff, do they?

I could see Shenmue III being a lengthy mid-conference reintroduction trailer with either a release date, or a new release window. I don't see a stage demo though, it's just not that type of game unless they want to spoil the more intensive action sequences towards the climax of the game.

Give Bruce Straley his own studio

I think it will be in the middle of the conference. The game doesn't have that much of a hype anymore and something like FF7R would be a treat to see first. I expect S3 to fail or to not do so well because a lot of people over estimate how popular the franchise is.

Suckerpunch's new game or an extended play of TLOU or Detroit would suffice. Plus, I think Days Gone needs as much help, so I think that will be the game Sony shows off first.

In all honesty though, what do you guys think ND would make after TLoU2?

It can't be anything but a brand new IP right? Even so... I literally have no clue on what new game they could tackle next. Will it be a third-person action/adventure game or a TLoU styled survival horror game or a combination of both or will they give us a Sci-Fi space epic?

WHAT COULD NAUGHTY GODS DO NEXT?!

A GTA styled adventure would be nice. Also, I'm down for a Assassin Creed (actual stealth this time) styled game but with a strong emphasis on the story.

Days Gone will open the conference with a madness.
I have a strong feeling that Bend are going to blow the conference wide open to start, the crazy gameplay options they've hinted at allow for this.

You're speculating PS5 games now haha.
I'd like to see them tackle something fantasy or sci-fi next.

A game that allows for a less realistic settings and gameplay but still gives that cinematic "grounded" ND storytelling.
Third person game of course.

Hmm, I saw Gravity Rush 2 for £17/$22 at my local GameStop but don't know if it'll be worth it. And if it is immensely improved upon the original.

How about a licensed James Bond game? Obviously it won't tie in with the movies since Naughty Dog shouldn't be rushed, but how would that fare? A third-person game with gadgets, crazy set-pieces and maybe an RPG element? Not too insane like full-fledged RPG games but more in line with Horizon?

I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas around and yes, this will mostly end up a PS5 game.

Can't go wrong with that price, game is hugely improved from the original and has a lot of content. Plus it got a free story DLC in march.

Idk but I want it to be something out of their comfort zone. Like Fallout. Something with a lot of narrative agency.

I'd like ND to stay far away from licensed stuff personally.
It will restrict their creative juices way too much.
