Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 |OT| Anyone can save the galaxy once - SPOILERS!

I liked how they all without a second thought looked after "the baby" like a family or village would. One person picking him up or passing him off. Great stuff.

How they all cared for Groot really drove home the family angle for me.

He was everyone's baby.

I laugh when even the Raveger said Groot is too adorable to kill. lol

I'm going to break from consensus and say that was fucking incredible and maybe the best Marvel movie. And I didn't even like the first one that much!

What is this code that Yondu was supposed to follow anyway? Never keep boys to himself?

I think it was not to get into deals that deal with children, which is the reason why he got in trouble with the other Ravager Captains in the first place. It was one of the reason that he didn't tell Quill the truth
and kept him on the ship because he knew what was going on with Ego after a while of dropping off the kids there.

Oh. Now that I think about it Yondu was probably responsible for all those kids that Ego killed. So he really did do something bad and uncalled for. Unless he didn't know what Ego was going to do.

Gamora leaving Thanos and her family is her admitting how terrible of a situation that is.
I'm not disputing that fact. What I am saying is that Gamora up until this film fails to confront the fact that in spite of the duress she was in while growing up she was also still intimately involved in Nebula's was abuse.
The entire thing feels a little off because from the moment you learn how innocent children are from a group of murderers, you get this gnawing feeling you're just being tricked into caring for something you're told to care for. We all know Thanos is a terrible person before but you still need that extra gut punch to hammer it in. Sibling rivalry, wanting a sister, yeah, it makes sense but it was never earned because of the trickery.

They're Ravagers: pirates, thieves, murderers, kidnappers, etc. BUT they don't harm children. It's a lazy trope that deserves ridicule. It's what undermines some of the core themes of the movie because a seed is implanted the moment Stallone says the line.
The fact that children are innocent doesn't change even when that notion is hinted at by the Ravager code. However the explicit mention of kids in the Ravager code serves the narrative function of retroactively contextualising why Yondu took Peter in the first place and as an example of a transgression that is seemingly unforgivable so that in the third act Yondu acts to atone for those mistakes. Thus within this context the concept of narrative foreshadowing being a form of trickery ignores the fact that what you'd categorise as a trick (don't harm children) is barely worth labelling as such. Especially because the film goes out of its way to examine said trope in various scenes and from the perspective of various characters - hardly a lazy execution of the trope.
It helps you believe some pretty shitty people are good people.
That's basically a summation of the original film. Yes.

Michael Rooker killed it. He's gonna be at the Comic Con in Detroit here in a couple weeks. I wasn't originally gonna try to see him but now I might. Just to say what's up and that he's awesome in this and Days of Thunder and it's fucked up how he got it in Walking Dead.

It was mention that he knew something was up with Ego and that was the reason he kept Peter on the ship.

Don't set my expectations too high. But a one take fight of T'Challa schooling fools would be sublime.

And Spidey is July 7th in the US. I see it being attached to that.

Infinity War teaser will go in front of Thor.
Nah. I'm guessing Thor will get the second/final Black Panther trailer. Infinity War teaser will be with Last Jedi I bet.

I ain't ready for all this winning. I still can't believe BP is getting made...and with a director and cast like that.

Alt-right is gonna be lit af and I am gonna love every minute of it. :)

Vol 1 is so much closer to being a normal sci fi western kind of movie it kinda blow me away that people like it more than Vol 2. Just seeing how these shots are playing out... it feels much more restrained. With Vol 2 I can just feel the confidence in the filmmaking. It's just bursting with style.

What is Drax's powers again? I forget in the midst of all his literal misinterpretations.

He is superhuman with regenerative abilities.

Well, that explains how he survived without a scratch then.

Superhuman, regenerates a little

Gets more powerful as he nears Thanos becoming almost unfuckwithable
I'm not sure if you folks are bullshitting or not. Was this ever established in the films? I've seen both films twice in as many days and didn't know this.

Not gonna lie, I cried when Yondu and Rocket had their moment. The "you're me" line was really powerful to me. Great scene.
Honestly, I loved every other part of their subplot, but that scene really bugged me. I thought it was way too hamfisted and probably didn't need to be spelled out in the text. Even after a second viewing (where most of my quibbles with the pacing evaporated) that scene still bugged me.

I want there to be a scene in Infinity War where Tony sees some space tech and starts geeking out about it to Quill thinking he made it, then Quill motioning to Rocket and Tony realizing that a raccoon is the engineering genius of the group.

"Rocket Raccoon was able to build this in a cave.....with a box of scraps?!"

That is what I basically said more or less, but maybe I should be more specific in my post.

Apologies if my post came across wrongly in response to yours.

Oh, the tears will be delicious. And yes, Marvel has stacked the deck with Black Panther.

And looks like Coogler is back with his cinematographer from Fruitville Station. Nice to see that.

It was nice to see Ben Browder on screen too.
Still hoping that Gunn snuck Moya in in the background of some shot somewhere. Or has a member of her crew somewhere in that space bar/brothel that Yondu was at early in the film.

Funny, earlier I was just saying how much I preferred the look (film/shot quality, sets and cg) of the original (but I still love 2). Just a preference more than extreme like vs extreme hate. Both look great overall for their genre.

Yeah, this improper usage of that term is the fucking worst thing.

Girl I was with started calling me daddy and it was the biggest damn turnoff.
