Sony E3 Conference confirmed for usual time (Monday 6pm PT)

Sadly not. When I posted about it before in the other E3 thread, the mod of the Discord server deleted the comments at the request of the GAF insider. Sn4ke_911 should be able to vouch for it as he asked about it too and I linked him to a thread with screengrabs.

I don't really know the insider's track record and not wanting the info on GAF could be a red flag given if they acknowledged it they would likely have to get vetted by the mods. It's also worth noting that a couple of supposed insiders said last year RDR2 was being revealed at Sony's conference and that press had seen the game which obviously didn't happen and Jason at Kotaku debunked the "press seeing" it part, so I'm taking everything with a grain of salt unless shinobi or Jason mention it.

That's okay, I believe you, just hoping to see it in context.

It's gonna make the E3 climax so much sweeter though, man.

That's what I keep telling myself lol.

In the meantime, something to go along with those sweet Spidey gifs:

Except Horizon's motion blur, lighting and overall models are not even close to those in that video.

And yes I have a PS4 and beat Horizon, loved the game.

Not even close? The settings are so different, it's hard to compare lighting, and in terms of models, there's barely any useful footage to compare characters.

Those RDR2 gifs are so freaking gorgeous. I think that game could give Horizon a run for its money.

One thing that really no one in the open world genre can compete with right now is Rockstar's attention to detail. They're second to none in that are for this type of game. I fully expect RDR2 to follow in that tradition.

I meant overall sceneries, objects etc. This is clearly on another level.

And we know that a single Thunderjaw in HZD is 550k polys and Aloy's hair is 100k polys which takes up 3-5 milliseconds. Each game is spending the power in different ways. Looking at far distances of the Spiderman vid, it has the lods and reduced shadows that one would expect, cleverly hidden by nice post processing effects.

Anyway, back to the point, which is that Spiderman looks amazing, and what we are seeing is well within the realms of possibility for a game coming out in 2018.

Ahh. Finally caught up with the rest of the thread. I'm so glad to see the positivity towards Bloodborne 2. I certainly can't wait! I really hope it's announced this E3!

Are there any recent rumors?

I have a reaaaaaally hard time believing that was gameplay.

I don't know man, in 2013 when PS4 launched I would say bullshit as well, but since than we saw Horizon and Uncharted 4 Jeep chase in the city... we know for a fact that the PS4 is indeed capable of such visuals, I don't know if Insomniac will achieve those in an open world city kind of game but those visuals are possible, at least from Sony's top studios.

As much as I'm feeling the open-world fatigue right now, I do have to make an exception for Rockstar. They truly are in a league of their own compared to all the other companies that try to specialise in that sort of thing *cough*Ubisoft*cough*.

I know Rockstar typically don't 'do' E3, but the GTA V remaster was announced at Sony's presser in '14 after all, and they've got that marketing partnership deal going on, so I'm thinking there's a good chance we'll see more of Red Dead Redemption 2 at the presser.

I agree. Like you said, it's not typical for Rockstar to do E3, but man do I want them to be there.

I don't agree. These are mostly cutscene equivalents, meaning optimal framing, etc. Horizon looks as good in its real time cutscenes. I especially disagree about lighting and modelling anyway...As it stands, I would maybe even give Horizon a slight edge, but it is really apples and oranges. Very much looking forward to seeing more of the game. This as someone who isn't really a Spiderman or marvel fan.

I didn't understand his modeling comment as well, Aloy and other NPCs in the game are much more impressive than the models we see in the diner part of the trailer, not sure Spiderman's lighting is that much superior as well though it's really good, the more impressive stuff is the scale of everything, all of the details, not sure Horizon can compare there.

Anyway I do think it's in the realm of what we saw in U4 and Horizon but no doubt that if it will turn out like that trailer (will look like that during gameplay, no cutscenes) than this might dethrone Horizon as the best looking game.

It doesn't matter what their history is, that doesn't look right. Especially when Insomniac's response isn't directly calling it 'game play' but 'in engine', similar to what Ubisoft does.

There's about nothing in the Spider-man video that can't or hasn't be done with the hardware available. It's just a matter of being clever on how they go about it.

You can clearly see aggressive LoD-ing hidden by a bunch of effects, the fast movement scenes are accompanied by a widening of the FoV (progressive along the longitudinal direction, what hides geometry warping) that makes the speed seem much faster than it actually is (and, as a result, reduces geometry loading), lighting is probably baked in and interpolated between states (just like Horizon does, in fact), etc.

Insomniac is more than technically capable enough to do it.

And that's basically the same response that ND have enquiries about the original U4 reveal trailer too which obviously got paired down a little bit especially re: 60fps > 30fps. Also, vertical slice etc.

Yea the "in-engine" thing they added in their answer is a little fishy no doubt... in a month we will hopefully know if they managed to achieve that, can't wait!

Same here but mostly because it going to have more dev time on Pro .
Truth is Detroit could outclass everything because of what type of game it is .

They didn't clarified it, the guy was asking in game and Insomniac said it's in game.

Another guy asked for gameplay and Insomniac said the trailer was gameplay.

It was in engine, but not 'gameplay' really. How could it have been gameplay, they didn't have anything playable, just a proof of concept thing. It raises a flag that they were so quick to characterize that as 'gameplay'.

Then there's the use of the term 'in-engine' and 'real time'... we know the deal with that at this point, don't we?

Maybe it does look just like that now with a game built around it, I'd love to be wrong.

You think this is not gameplay?

The Division/ Watch Dogs/ other shit reveals were also made an "in engine" thing to look like real gameplay, and if we go even further (not saying this is the case here), Killzone 2 reveal was a CGi that was made to look like gameplay.

So yea this doesn't prove anything really.

Those are multiplat examples and Killzone happened years ago.

What are the examples from this gen regarding PS4 exclusives?

Uncharted 4, though it was a teaser not a gameplay.

I know the game was canned but Deep Down reveal looked much better than the gameplay we saw afterwards, and I might misremember but Infamous reveal also looked better than the final game (which looked amazing in 2014 no doubt, though very "dead" and with a minimal scale for an open world title), but it wasn't too bad to be an actual controversy.

Wasn't Bloodborne suffered from a downgrade as well? even though initial trailer doesn't look better than Horizon and U4 so it is possible if FROM had the budget or/and skill technically but still.

Staying outta this conversation because I'm not in that studio so idk what they're doing or capable of enough to try and call them out

So Dreams and days gone hype!!

You remember wrong Infamous look just as good .
As for BB it was more a change of lighting than downgrade .
Still some people call anything a downgrade but Sony has be rather truthful when it comes to trailers.

Man Dreams is underrated visually, it looks spectacular and deserves to be mentioned when people talk about the best looking stuff among Horizon, U4, GOW4, Battlefront etc...

But they said it was in-game, thats different from in-engine

right?

Did they, I seem to remember B-roll playing for a while before real start.
Nope they started on time I just checked the threads for them. I think last PSX they may have been a little late or some other non-E3 conference.

Edit: Nope actually they started on time for last PSX too.
