Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Bruce doesn't strike me as a sci-fi guy.

If anything, I would imagine a new IP by him to tell a minimalist story ala Ueda/Playdead.

The visual image that comes to mind when I imagine a Bruce Straley new IP (completely derived of my own imagination of him and his taste, which could easily be 100% wrong) is Princess Mononoke or Seirei no Moribito.

Traditional, low-key lush fantasy that isn't about grand settings or epics, but rather about a few characters in a grand world.

I'd like ND to stay far away from licensed stuff personally.
It will restrict their creative juices way too much.
Deadlined licensed stuff, yes.

But trying their hand at an established IP would kinda be cool.

I mean, Insomniac working on Spider-Man is a dream come true for many, even though we don't know what the final product will entail.

I do get your point though. I'd like for ND to establish their own worlds rather than be constricted to an already established world. Maybe go a little off-the-rails with the Bond game? Do something never been done before? Heavily narrative driven with multiple endings based on player and dialogue choices and what not.

After seeing Uncharted 4 and Drake in a suit, I've had that craving for a James Bond game made by Naughty Dog.

I miss Everything or Nothing.

Yup, something thats "inspired" from LOTR, would be awesome.

And any speculations on the release date announcements @E3? I think we will get something(at least a vague 2018 at the end of trailer) for GOW, Spiderman, Ni No Kuni 2, Dayz Gone & Detroit...Dreams & SP's IP(may be).

In all honesty though, what do you guys think ND would make after TLoU2?

It can't be anything but a brand new IP right? Even so... I literally have no clue on what new game they could tackle next. Will it be a third-person action/adventure game or a TLoU styled survival horror game or a combination of both or will they give us a Sci-Fi space epic?

WHAT COULD NAUGHTY GODS DO NEXT?!

I would frigging love ND to make a sci-fi game a la Mass Effect, an FPS game like Half-Life or Wolfenstein: TNO, and ever since they released Jak & Daxter on the PS2 I always thought they could manage an RPG/action-adventure a la Zelda. Seeing as they like to focus on mature games now, how about something inspired by The Witcher?

A GTA styled adventure would be nice. Also, I'm down for a Assassin Creed (actual stealth this time) styled game but with a strong emphasis on the story.

I'd like to see them tackle a smaller more focused open world game a la Bully. Give me a small hyper-detailed town with distinct characters, a small selection of varied vehicles, a lot of focus on gameplay systems interacting and a good plot. But I realise that might be asking a bit too much from ND as many developers who make these open world games tend to be teams of hundreds and hundreds.

Hmm, I saw Gravity Rush 2 for £17/$22 at my local GameStop but don't know if it'll be worth it. And if it is immensely improved upon the original.

Yeah, get it. It's great. Loads of content, amazing traversal (improved over the first) and a really fun, distinct adventure.

Nah, unless Miyazaki is lying

Yeah, it's weird how many people are expecting it. Miyazaki stated he's working on three titles, none of which are Soulsborne related. I doubt FROM is secretly working on a fourth and I really hope Japan Studios isn''t doing a sequel without FROM.

To be fair, Miyazaki said his next game after Dark Souls was going to be 'lighthearted'

Yeah, I mean devs have outright lied many times about not doing this thing or that thing, only found out to have been doing that exact thing all along. I guess sometimes publishers want to surprise people and asks the devs to lie about what they're working on or not working on.

I mean, the devs don't do it to be malicious (some do, I'm not discounting that) but they are under obligation not to blow the surprise so the publisher can have that 'ZOMG' moment on stage.

Of course devs lie all the time, but I don't think that's the case this time. Dark Souls and Bloodborne are going on a long break imo

Whatever they want. I think it's silly how some insist on them tackling sci fi or whatever, as if they should just go through every setting/genre on a list. If their next set of ideas leads to them making a sci fi game then I'm keen for a sci fi game but if it isn't and they never make a sci fi game then that's fine with me too.

Miyazaki isn't just a dev, he's the president of the company. Sure, he could be lying but it's very, very unlikely IMO.

What if it's too obvious because he wants you to think it's too obvious? Huh?

Seriously though, with how successful R&C 2016 was, a new R&C seems obvious but I hope they up the production values on it, with a larger team and more time. I loved R&C 2016 but I can understand the complaints over the recycled weapons, worlds and so on.

Screw the people who complained about the story though. Ratchet was a total asshole in the original R&C, making him likeable was the best thing about the remake.

And I hope its something original, not a remake of two

So is this the E3 we see Ape Escape 4?

Does anyone remember the year of the Monkey tweet 1.5 years ago?

...Or did they can the game and work on Knack 2 instead?

This was never about them working on an Ape Escape game, it was the first workday of the year, hence they were back to work lol

Is that what you like to do in life? Going around crushing dreams? What's wrong with you.

Ape escape 4 will happen

There's nothing to talk about with most of the games we talk about in here.

Certainly more than the nothing on Shenmue III. At least with stuff like Spider-Man, we've had something. Shenmue III was just a kickstarter announcement but not even a trailer to talk about.

I've no idea what type of story it would be, but I wouldn't be surprised if their next game were open world.

I'm not convinced they would ever make a "true" open world game. Only ever these "wide linear" experiences as they've been saying. And especially since the luster of having your game as open world does not have the impact it once did. I would be curious to see how they went about it though. But people would be expecting that ND polish in an open world game somehow, and the manpower required for that hurts to think about...

So Sony seems to be doing some press runs about their games? Knack 2 got some previews rolling and Jay Ong (VP at Marvel Games) gave an interview for Gamespot, and maybe the interview happened at some preview event Sony is doing for their games, including Spider-Man, too?

Is that what you like to do in life? Going around crushing dreams? What's wrong with you.

lmao

But yeah, Ape Escape
3 as a PS2 Classic
will happen

I think I would be fine if Sony didn't announce any new games this E3. I just want Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, WipEout, Everybody's Golf and Gran Turismo Sports to come out.

I have enough games as it is.

I have a strong feeling that Bend are going to blow the conference wide open to start, the crazy gameplay options they've hinted at allow for this.

You're speculating PS5 games now haha.
I'd like to see them tackle something fantasy or sci-fi next.

I firmly believe we're almost done with Sony's PS4 exclusives and a lot of the next-wave will be PS5/crossgen experiences.

Yeah, Sony seems to be drumming up the pre-E3 hype pretty early. They're pretty confident on their show, I guess.

I sincerely doubt it. Sony has a track record of putting out extremely ambitious, polished titles right up to the release of their next console. We don't have anything like a full slate for 2017/2018/2019 and it's still not obvious that PS5 will happen in 2019. It could just as easily be 2020.

Knack is the perfect girlfriend game. I loved playing it with my ex, and she's like "I'll take care of this!" and she would continue to jump off the cliff because she don't know how to turn the character or be knocked off by the enemies lmao. Glad they're making a sequel for when I find me a new girlfriend.

My wife absolutely loved Knack and she normally only likes Nintendo games. She loves linear games with really simple controls, and Knack is exactly that.

Huh, I wonder what type of preview event this would be. Just a general event for everything they have?

It could be. Sony has done this kinds of preview events before, they did one for PSVR games this year for example

According to Polygon, 60 people are working on Knack 2, apparently that's much more than the first one.

that number must be from Japan Studio staff only right?

Knack 1 had a huuuuge amount of external contract development. And I believe even people from other SIE studios had a hand on it at some point

Hoping we don't get any leaks for this one just like last year. Had absolutely no clue what they were going to show, and it added so much to the proceedings.

Dark Fantasy, Mech, and one that will "comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner."

It was also just rumored that From is working on a Dark Fantasy Action RPG from a job posting a week ago.

I think it's in development.

God Of War, Days Gone and Spider-man leaked beforehand.

I believe RE7 leaked too, but I knew that one already so Im not sure

I know we got some screenshots of God of war before e3 but the others only had rumors going around about showing up. I wouldn't call days gone or spider-man leaks because we had no idea what they were going to look like. When I think leaks I am thinking screenshots/trailers or box arts with game details etc....

God of War didn't really leak just before E3 but everyone assumed it would be there after all the art leaked in March. I don't remember anything about Days Gone leaking before E3. I'll give you Spider-Man.

For leaks last year, Zhuge knew everything that would be shown and leaked Microsoft's and Ubisoft's just before they started. He didn't leak Sony's though because he thought it was really good.

I guess, but I wouldnt put this on only rumor area too, the sources were hot and we knew beforehand they were real and they would be at E3.

And those God of War concept art werent representation of what we saw either. Thats also I dont really mind these kinds of leaks. The way the game is presented is way more important than just knowing its a real thing to me.

Days Gone details were leaked with its OG name ''Dead Dont Ride''

The Microsoft thing was because their site with the assets for E3 was poorly secured. People had those leaks for sometime before the keynote even, the assets were beeing shareda round DM's between a bunch of gaffers.

I dont think Zhuge knew everything about all of them, but I still have no clue how he knew the whole Ubi thing (down to the order) tho

Just usual get stuff out of the way, they did this every time like GR2 preview last E3.
I guess Knack 2 and Everybody's Golf maybe UC TLL will get sizzle reel treatment.
