Nintendo E3 plans detailed

From the promo materials I'm hoping this E3 doesn't boil down to "Hey! Let's just play the most boring parts of Odyssey for hours!"

Because they did that last year with Zelda and I wanted to strangle myself.

You're in luck, it won't.

And why did you keep watching? There were plenty of other streams to watch.

They were pretty minor because the Direct was pretty minor. I know you don't like the whole "wait for..." thing but, seriously, wait for a console's first E3 before making judgements on its future software outlook. This is especially the case when you seem to be holding Nintendo to a higher standard than the other two console manufacturers; Sony and Microsoft pretty much only announce major titles at E3 yet that isn't "piece-mealing" whilst it is for Nintendo, who still focuses a lot on E3 but has a few Directs each year. What do you expect from them given that we've only really "known" about the Switch and its game lineup since January?

Fair enough, although I think announcing your major titles at one or two big events be the opposite of piecemealing?

Without knowing precisely what the presentation consists of, would you say its time for Nintendo fans to crack each others' heads open and feast on the goo inside?

So then I guess there's not much to watch the "spotlight" for since we pretty much already know what's going to be released in 2017. Well, other than new gameplay clips.

The press release pretty clearly says "with a focus" on games launching in 2017. Doesn't count out the odd surprise or concept footage etc.

Also we don't know everything that's going to be launched in 2017, either.

Even if Nintendos E3 was only 2017 games you don't know everything coming in 2017 so don't act like you know all the games coming this year.

"With a focus" on 2017 is very important. It's obviously not going to just be 2017 stuff; E3 2015 was "focused on 2015" yet we saw 2016 stuff at that time (FE Fates, #FE, and Federation Force IIRC, and SF0 did slip into 2016 later on).

I imagine we'll at least see something on the new Fire Emblem game for Switch and some other announcements, so don't worry about it too much.

While I consider FF Mark a great choice of typeface for most things Nintendo Switch, I find this logo very uninspired. Unlike the new Nintendo Direct logo which features a custom cut of FF Mark and an element other than text, this is just plain FF Mark Heavy with what seems to be default kerning (minimal differences).

I find nothing interesting about this logo. There's no flair, no excitement. The Digital Event logo was much better. It was certainly simple but had some color and something going on, it resembled an actual logo and not just plain text.

One can only hope they will provide a good animated sequence featuring the Spotlight logo.

Personally, I love the simplicity. The "Digital Event" logo speaks to a very niche audience whereas this update has much broader appeal. The colour choice and font is also consistent with their branding pivot. It feels very focused, much like the marketing of a company such as Apple or Google.

I, for one, am excited.

Finally a good look at Mario Odyssey.

More ARMS play. It's my #1 most wanted upcoming game.

We get to see what else is happening on the Switch this year. I am fine with them focusing on 2017. They need to drive home the fact that games are coming, and they are coming very soon. I have a feeling more games will be revealed for this year than most think.

Out of the games announced for this year, I am most looking forward to seeing XBC2 and SMO at the direct. They look very interesting, being two big single player games in genres I really like, with great credentials to boot. Especially with Monolith Soft helping with, and hopefully learning from, the development of BOTW, I can see these two games in particular be the next big hits quality-wise for Nintendo (big hits as in BOTW level (or a little below) quality).

Ah, sorry I must have completely forgot what piecemealing meant then. Though now I do remember (and Googled just to make sure) I still wouldn't particularly agree because Directs, with the exception of that emergency January 2013 Direct, are only ever really for one or two mid-tier announcements alongside a bunch of small ones. E3 is still a big thing for Nintendo and I've yet to see any real evidence to suggest otherwise.

I agree. The e3.nintendo.com site is pretty nice, but the logo seems a little bland. I'm not completely in love with the "Spotlight" name, but I can live with it. I'm wondering if they're going to change the name every couple of years.

Lol you guys crack me up.

There are stages when it comes to greaving. First is sadness, anger, denial then acceptance.

I am in the acceptance spot right now. I know not to go in expecting much other than Mario, Indies and maybe a small suprise that won't make waves. And it will all be cringeworthy the entire time.

Can't wait lol.

Mother 3 and Prime 4 both will be at this Direct!!!

For those of you that forgot, they also announce a few new titles over the course of the Treehouse Live stream too.

Usually smaller stuff, but still interesting.

Next Months CoroCoro will have "shocking" information about Marshadow, just in time for E3. It quite clearly is the fact that it will be the new starter Pokemon in Stars, like Pikachu was in Yellow.

I'm gonna go and say we'll get a direct before E3, then the spotlight will be stuff shown in the direct.

I see Stars.

What? Why would their E3 Spotlight video presentation solely be focused on previously announced games?

Do people seriously think Nintendo won't be announcing any new games at E3 this year? Is there really any reason to believe this beyond some strange feeling of pessimism? Which doesn't even seem warranted, they've been knocking it out of the park lately.

The reactions in this thread are so very strange.

Tbh all my hype has been killed by this 2017 malarkey. Even if they show off one or two titles for 2018 as some people suggest they might it just wouldn't be good enough because we already know pretty much the entire 2017 lineup. So it's basically "hey, here's two maybe interesting games. Now enjoy the stuff we've already shown you." I want surprises or first looks at games we haven't seen before. Not more splatoon and mario.

There's a lot more of known 2017 games that we haven't been shown yet. I personally want to see more footage of Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles 2

I don't know about that whole focus only on titles coming in 2017. We pretty much know what is coming out for the rest of this year.

If it is only 2017 games then the chances of seeing Retros new game have dropped significantly.

Good thing it's not only 2017.

What makes you think we know the entire 2017 lineup? Seriously, why do so many people think there can be no unannounced games coming this year, even though this happens literally every single year with Nintendo?

>FF Mark
>FF
>Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy XVI is a Nintendo Switch exclusive. You heard it here first!

Smaller titles won't sell the Switch though.

And? I'm not talking about sales. I'm pointing out (early) that announcements exist outside of the Direct as well.

I like the occasional blockbuster, but it's not what makes me love Nintendo's output. Mario and Zelda get me to buy their consoles, but stuff like Ever Oasis, Custom Robo, Pikmin, etc are what I end up playing the most.

IMO all surprises will be MANY ports from wiiU. They see the success of MK8. Obviously it's what consumers want. Mario will be the big title this year from them.

Okay you made me laugh. Please tell me this isn't parody so I can laugh more.

True.

It's pretty much guaranteed that if they'll be announcing 2018 games it'll probably be only 1 or 2

Leave making shit up to me

Meh.

Only real big potential 2017 announcements left are stars and a smash 4 port. It doesn't help that the pacing in these are awful and Nintendo can easily blow 40 minutes with just showcasing 4 games.

Hopefully!

Pokken Complete, Bayonetta 1&2 HD + Wonderful 101, DK Tropical Freeze + Returns HD, Windwaker + Twilight Princess HD, Fatal Frame V (Finally retail Edition) and Mario 3D World would make fantastic stop-gap titles in between big releases.

About CoroCoro? No.

About Marshadow and Stars,Yes

Yeah I was referring to Marshadow being the starter in Stars, I have to check sometimes as sanity tends to disappear in these kinds of threads. :L

I think it's a safe bet it'll be the reveal of Marshadow's Z-Move in CoroCoro. Would be cool if it's a Stars-Exclusive form change for him but I don't see it right now.
