Nintendo E3 plans detailed

Mario being called the "highlight" makes me wonder if Pokemon is this fall. I still think Xenoblade will hit in December, and hopefully that Rabbids + Mario game in September. Hopefully all of the smaller 3DS type games, like Pushmo or Mario vs Donkey Kong, start popping and peppering in there.
If Pokémon Stars is real and it's just an HD version of the 3DS game, that's not the product to highlight as the biggest game of the holiday for your brand new system. That game will speak for itself, Mario needs the main push because it's the better symbol for Switch's holiday.

Predictions

I'll be amazed if we get half that.

I think people forget every year that there are generally only 2 or 3 game announcements per conference. If that.

They're focusing on Mario as that's going to be their next big title this year. I don't think that means they're going to completely forego unveiling new titles. At least I hope not.

Only 2017 titles?

Guess my hopes for a Metroid announcement were in vain.

Nothing in the OP says or suggests "only 2017 titles". They explicitly say there will be a "focus on 2017 titles" which means there will likely be 2018 titles.

This clarification probably should be in the OP and maybe even posted on every page of this thread. Yeesh.

Why would anyone reveal a unannounced game in a press release about a show where the reveals actually happen?

Really?

Come on now

Yes. Did you read those first threads about the leak? Every react would be tenfold.

I didn't day that it would be a positive mind blow....

Just imagine it: Nintendo (or Ubi) doing their thing in the E3 and then they say something like "one more thing before you leave" and the reveal trailer begins. Rabbits and Mario together, shooting with laser guns and whatever else those rumours have said.

It would be absolutely hilarious. Think about the reactions here, it would be a bloodpath!

Be prepared to have a headache after explaining this to another hundred people. Lol

I think some people expect atleast one or two 2017 surprises since (so far) the whole 2017 line-up as is has been known since January and NCL said there are more hardware pushing games for this year that haven't been announced. Also I expect two early 2018 games to be announced. I'm not expecting any major announces outside of what we already know, but I do think AC will be there but metroid will not.

Mario being the highlight for E3 means absolutely nothing for Pokemon.

I guess I take it as Mario being the highlight of the fall and not of E3, since Reggie says "holiday season highlighted by". I'm probably just reading into it too much.

If Pokémon Stars is real and it's just an HD version of the 3DS game, that's not the product to highlight as the biggest game of the holiday for your brand new system. That game will speak for itself, Mario needs the main push because it's the better symbol for Switch's holiday.

That's also true. It's going to be a massive game, but one that's already come out. Mario is brand spanking new, so that's a bigger deal in this case.

Surely they have to show 2018 titles right? We know whats coming for this year but we know NOTHING about anything beyond 2017.

Anything to be able to keep the hope they'll announce a Metroid, dammit.

Only 2017 titles?

Guess my hopes for a Metroid announcement were in vain.

focus on 2017 titles doesnt mean they wont announce new games or talk about stuff coming next year. When they announced there E3 2015 plans they said they would be highlighting games releasing in 2015 that had people up in arms and guess what they showed off stuff that had release windows for 2016.

I'm more than fine with the event focusing on games coming out this calendar year and (I'm guessing) the first half of next. I'm sick of two-year or longer hype cycles for games that are nowhere near release at the time of announcement.

If this is literally only about games releasing in calendar 2017, that would indeed be disappointing, but as many others have already said, that seems highly unlikely.

I'm going to be disappointed if it's just the announcement of games we already knew about from leaks even before the Switch reveal event. Rabbids, Pokemon Stars, Smash Switch, etc. Hopefully there's still some unknown stuff scheduled for 2017.

You made a ridiculous baseless assumption that e3 is only for Mario like Zelda was for last year. Your comment is something a typical hater would say to downplay the exciting E3 Nintendo WILL have.
and more

Guys... calm down. Have you learned nothing about past Nintendo E3s and directs? We have heard the word focus for many times now there were not many situations where they delivered much more than what they promised.

You guys are expecting way too much. E3 will be focused around Mario, just like it was the last time with Zelda. Last year's E3 was exactly the same, it had a big focus on Zelda but some smaller games were announced like Ever Oasis also here, which will be the case 2017 too probably the Rabbids Game. I wouldn't expect anything else.

I am aware that they are doing a stream. What I meant is that every year besides 2016 had a E3 Introdocution video released around this time. This time not. Is it really that far fatched to draw a connection between E3 2016 and E3 2017?

Whose included in "NintendoGAF"?
The trolls? It clearly implies they will show atleast something for 2018.

I'm going to be disappointed if it's just the announcement of games we already knew about from leaks even before the Switch reveal event. Rabbids, Pokemon Stars, Smash Switch, etc. Hopefully there's still some unknown stuff scheduled for 2017.
Even if those three leaks are the only surprise 2017 games, that's hardly a line up to be disappointed about. Those games would make Switch's first year line up destroy typical year one line ups for most systems.

Fire Emblem isn't nothing. And, as it has been already explained in every second post, the focus is on 2017, not exclusively 2017.

Shouldn't look at leaks then?....

Yes. It's far-fetched.

While NintenGAF is busy thinking of what Nintendo might do for E3, I'm over here thinking of a possible repeat of this years January event for 2018.

That's a bit more reasonable. But, to be fair, the last direct actually did include new announcements relating to Switch and 3DS even though they said it was focused on Splatoon 2 and ARMS (both of which only got around 9 minutes of footage dedicated towards them), so I don't think it's farfetched to expect new announcements. Will we get announcements for games that come out late 2018? Probably not, but early 2018 doesn't seem too out of reach.

Very disappointing. Looks like its exactly like last years E3 just with Mario. Big meh. Mario is great, and Zelda is great too but they need big surprises.

And again no E3 introduction video like 2014 and 2015? Why? Those were amazing. Looks like E3 continues to be irrelevant for Nintendo...

Last year they specifically said it will only be Zelda in the main presentation, no where have they said it will only be Mario this year, Mario is just the only game they name dropped.

Even then last year they had other games in the treehouse stream and on the show floor.

This year they say Mario and other Switch titles mainly ones for 2017, but it will be others, they are not even gonna talk about 3DS in the main presentation but they will have 3DS games on the show floor.

I hope this clears it up

So because they didn't show a Mega64 video means it's going to be like last year? No it's not like last year. They didn't do a video presentation last year so that already disproves your narrative. SMO is one of many titles just like every other E3 Nintendo has done. This E3 is more like E3 2013-2015 since it has a presentation.

I would be surprised not to see the Switch version of Smash 4 in the presentation. Of course, I think that's something that could come out this year anyway.

You're totally wrong and have no idea what you're talking about.

Last years E3 had a large Zelda focus because Nintendo was not ready to show off the Switch and announce what it had in the works. This year is completely different, just take the L.

Aside from what we know-know is coming, my predictions

1. Something Metroid (2D or Prime)
2. Something Retro (may be Metroid)
3. Pikmin 4
4. Super Mario Maker 2
5. Super Smash Bros. Deluxe (with more content than you'd think)
6. Beyond Good & Evil 2 (published by Nintendo, including BG&E HD)
7. Rabbids and Mario RPG
8. Animal Crossing sequel
9. Virtual Console details (particularly, a shift in how paid online works - you now keep the games you get for as long as you're subbed. Also GameCube VC and upgrade details for Wii U AND 3DS VC)
10. Wild card: A new Wario Land

Sure, sure. We will talk again after E3. If you expect more than Mario, Zelda DLC, the Rabbids Game and a couple of smaller games you are in for a big disappointment.

Wait, are you trying to say that there won't be a Direct/Digital Event style video stream?

You do know that's exactly what the Spotlight is, right? It'll likely be an hour long video similar to the Digital Events in the past. Read the wording of the tweet and the PR, clearly the Spotlight is going to be their video presentation this year. Tune in at 12pm EDT!

Last year's E3 was always said to be only about a single game until other minor announcements came later due to backlash. There wasn't a seperate Direct/Showcase as there will be this year, all the other announcements were thrown in hap-hazardly throughout the Treehouse streams. The reason Mario's front and centre in this announcement is because its Mario, Odyssey's by far the largest known game for Switch right now so of course it's gonna be. It'd be like implying Sony were only showing God of War if their 2017 press release featured Dad-Kratos.

As for every year having an intro video... that was literally only 2014 and 15, every other year had a press release just like this one and that's what every other company does as well. This kind of logic just baffles me, frankly.

Sounds good.

Did yall really think they was gonna detail yall on 2018 games. They will announce them but they not gonna go deep into them. Trailers and screens thats about it.

There are already more 2017 games shown and announced than what you just said. So either you're in here trolling or you really know nothing about what's already coming to Switch this year. I get it, keep expectations low, but I get the sense that you have no clue what you're talking about.
