A look forward to 2018:
New IP by Retro Studios. An atmospheric first-person shooter with an emphasis on melee and traversal mechanics. 2018.
A remake of the first Pikmin. Expansive world; longer days; new Pikmin type (GREEN) and enemies. Olimar is not alone; two other captains are stranded with him. Switch between trio like in Pikmin 3. Play the campaign in co-op. Playable with a single Joy-Con. 2018.
Fire Emblem for Switch. Multiple SKUs, each their own story and campaign, like Fates. 2018.
Animal Crossing for Switch. Immerse yourself in world with optional ground-level camera. Rotate camera to see sides and backs of buildings, and look south. Fence in yards and landscape property. Hold block parties. Juggle part-time jobs. Develop infrastructure with proper roads. Up to four players can work on same town in local splitscreen MP.
ONE MORE THING: Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch. Sakurai explains this is the definitive edition of the game. "The Nintendo Switch is both a handheld, and a console. As such, in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, we have included the contents of both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for WiiU. All of the DLC for both games is also included. But that's not all."
Proceeds to reveal that Ice Climbers are back. He explains they weren't possible on the 3DS due to hardware limitations, or on WiiU due to hardware limitations in 8P.
Another new addition: The Inklings, from Splatoon. They also weren't possible in the other games, due to the hardware demands of their ink splatter effects. They join the battle with their kid-to-squid powers. Like the Mii Fighter, they come in several classes: Splattershot, Roller and Charger. And like the Mii Fighter, you can customize elements of them, such as their sub-weapons and specials. Also, the "Gear Sync" feature checks your Switch for Splatoon 2 save data, and allows you to import the appearance of your Inkling from Splatoon 2.
Other surprises still await, Sakurai teases. But here's a glimpse of other features, including a stage hazard toggle, and a tag-team mode where you choose several characters and switch freely between them mid-battle. Also releasing alongside the game: Wavebird Joy-Cons. The GCN adapter is also supported.
Close with a trailer for Bomberman in Smash. And then the kicker at the end: Snake returns from Metal Gear Solid. "Kept you waiting, huh?"
