I like how the bang is now a visual indicator of Ultimate, though I don't know how to feel that it's a power up state now rather than always-active.

Being able to suppress your power has always been a thing in the series. Raditz, Vegeta and Nappa were even surprised about that at first because they didn't know how to do it initially.

I feel stupid, I think my experience was fucked up by the quality of the stream I watched. Watching in HD I have a much higher opinion of the episode. It still didn't meet my expectations and I still maintain that there wasn't a bit of animation that really stood out, but what is here is really well done.

Story and direction wise this episode was outstanding. I'm curious to see where Gohan goes since he's talking about wanting to unlock a new form on a different path from Super Saiyan.

Gowasu had the look of someone considering freeing Zamasu.
Maybe he us going to use the Super Balls to revive Goku Black and bring back Zamasu so they can fuse. An inmortal AND powerful God is an asset in the Tournament of Power
Edit: the rest of the warriors are Goku Rose clones

That episode was awesome!

Vegeta smirking was dope as well, can't wait for beetus to find out.

Vegeta always did seem disappointed Gohan wasn't constantly stronger than him, which is an odd thing to type out but there it is.

I do wonder what Beerus and Whis will say when they find out...

so Gohan went from I really don't wanna fight anymore because I'm a dad to power hungry warrior who's going to surpass Goku in power in like 20 episodes.
yeah. alright, whatever. I get he's a saiyan, but it seems like lazy writing.
waiting for the tournament to start just keeps dragging on and on and on and on..........

Goku starting a beam competition then immediately teleporting next to Gohan and kicking him while he held his kamehameha was p sick

Won't be able to watch it till either later today or tomorrow because midterms are over celebrations. But was tonight's episode any good?

Ultimate 2. Now with 2 bangs.

Absolutely love how serious Gohan is taking this and fighting in general and really enjoyed that little moment near the end when Goku is carrying him and says something along the lines of getting there or dong it together. I feel it meant more than just the tournament but that he respects Gohan's power and the two can train together and push each other's levels beyond the tournament. It would be nice since Vegeta is too obsessed with surpassing Goku to train with him. He wants to find a way to get stronger on his own to come out on top.

It was a pretty good episode, but I don't think that it cemented Gohan = SSB Goku. They only had a few punches with Goku in SSB, before Goku stacked Kaioken on top of that to give Gohan his "full power" wish, and that was pretty much a OHKO. Given that Goku's the ultimate sandbagger, I don't think that we've seen equality between Gohan and Blue. However, given what Gohan said about wanting to achieve a form no-one's ever seen before, we'll definitely see him hitting that, and possibly (probably) greater heights in the actual tourney.

I also like how Tien was the only voice of reason, as well. I really do feel sorry for him being so far behind Gohan. At least Goku's got Saiyan biology + training all the time, while Gohan's put far less effort in that Tien, over the course of the last few years. Not that I'd want to see Gohan lagging behind, just Tien doing a bit...better.

It was interesting how
during the 2v2, when Gohan and Goku's punches collided we had those blue flashes like with Goku v Vegeta during RoF
.

on one hand bummer we didn't actually see the extent of Gohan's strength as that was the whole point of the fight, we have no idea how exactly it measures against SSB but it at least was enough for Goku to respect his strength and more importantly, show Gohan a new height to strive for.

Also, looks like Universe 9 and 10 will be the trash tier universes haha Steak and eggs and eggs and steak.

We literally have Goku with a new form in the OP, that we can describe as "Steamy Mystic Form".

They're both getting it.

hmmm but Gohan just said he's pursuing a different path for power than Goku... That said, maybe Goku will use Mystic form as inspiration to obtain a new level so he treads a little on Gohan's path ha

the main problem this episode is that it was a Nozawa vs Nozawa episode and it got super repetitive in ways that Goku Black did not

if Goku and Gohan never fight each other again I will be a happy man

I honestly think Gohan will be the one to win the tournament. It won't be while displaying power greater than whatever Goku has hidden away, at least not initially. But it will be one impressive fucking fight. It will come against an opponent that realistically should only be able to be defeated by someone with Goku's power, but Gohan is going to pull it off and in doing so, achieve his new power.

Yep the grunts were too similar. Felt this way before when Gohan fought but it hasn't really mattered becuase he wasn't fighting Goku at the time.

Man this was such a good episode. I've kinda just grown deflated when it comes to Gohan, but holy shit did they really go all in with him. Really had my attention again. These fights really had a lot of that emotional and "important" feelings that most fights in DBZ had.

Fucking cool.

tbh I'm happy that Gohan has been on an honorable loss streak since the start of the arc. It means they're building him up to get actual wins when the tournament starts.

Great episode.
