Of course Days Gone is open world in comparison but it reminds me of how safe and boring The Order 1886 was. I would be very surprised if this game does anything particularly interesting with zombies and open world setting. I see it as being PS's next big failure after 1886.

Nah .
1886 did really bad .
Even if this game safe as possible it going to do way better .

I'm definitely expecting Days Gone and GoW to be there which is good because, to be honest, both games have yet to prove themselves to me, Days Gone a lot more so considering I'm not even a fan of its setting. I want to see general gameplay for both and not just heavily scripted story scenes which I'm sure we'll get.
I don't understand. A few people were saying the same stuff about Horizon.

"This looks so heavily scripted. I want to see general gameplay :/"

The gameplay you're seeing in those "heavily scripted" showings represent the general gameplay. What we saw in Horizon showings was what we got when the game launched.

Don't worry, this same statement I heard from People prior to Horizon release and believe me they are really confident.

All the information the devs have said about the game make it sound really cool. I've never touched any of those open world survival games, usually because of how janky and generally bad they look , but Days Gone seems super cool.

Well what I saw just didn't impress me, yes it's gameplay in a sense but unlike Horizon I never got the sense that it was indicative of the entire game. As I've said, it's yet to prove itself to me, I don't have to be hyped for something just from one showing, after all.

Two things I want from Days Gone are, hopefully good writing, and really being a survival would be awesome imo. But maybe it's not the best for the mass audience.

It's actually a pretty ambitious game from a gameplay standpoint

* Weapons crafting system, they call a "MacGuyver Mentality" where the you figure out clever ways to build tools to get out of situations.

* Wildlife is in the game, they have a "huge" wildlife system they aren't going to talk much about right now. But the event didn't wipe out all wildlife.

Featuring fully explorable environments and dynamic AI enemies, players will rely on their own abilities to strategize, craft weapons and tools, explore the world, and engage in combat. With almost every car, building and environment searchable, Days Gone delivers emergent gameplay possibilities, making a player’s approach to combat and discovery a vital part of the experience.

Using the power of PlayStation 4 and Unreal Engine 4, Bend Studio has developed a high volume of rendering and gameplay technology to deliver an incredibly realistic open world experience. Realistic weather effects, such as rain, wind, snow and day-night cycles impact the gameplay. The game’s lighting is all real-time and reacts dynamically, the way the human iris does, as players move from one location to the next.

Yes, this is an open world game. Bend called it a “dynamic open world,” and it’s being built with Unreal Engine 4...Take, for instance, the hordes of freakers seen in the demo...That horde will follow you indefinitely if you keep the right distance between it and yourself. Say you want to take out another human gang’s camp. Have that horde follow you and drag them all the way to your rival’s camp. The horde seeks the bigger target and does your work for you.

“You can go anywhere,” says Pape. “There’ll be waypoint on the map you can set, you can set your own waypoints, you can fast travel for some of the areas because it is such an expansive map”. And, while the demo showed a forrest location Pape says the north west American setting has been chosen specifically for the extreme environments it can provide. “You’ve for the mountains, snow, hail, rain wind, high dessert. City wise you’ll encounter abandoned suburbs, towns, it’s not just going to be in the woods”.

Good to know the devs have their focus right. I hope they show as much as they tell. This is Bend's first console game if I'm not mistaken. A lot to prove.

This shows shows how shit I am at making threads..had a whole what we know so far about days gone thread going..

Or ignorance is bliss whichever one
Neither. It is on Bend to show and not talk about those features. It is hard to show those features and wow the audiences on stage, but nonetheless they have to figure out how to do it.

If they get half of that done good the game should be awesome .

Not there first console game but it has been years since the made one .
If i remember right since the PS2 days .

Nah, they've made console games before. They're the creators of the Syphon Filter series. It's just that they moved onto handhelds during the PSP period. But this will be their first console game in more than a decade. I think that's in part why they're using a licensed engine instead of just building their own. It allows them to get off to a faster start.

The most exciting thing about GOW is that Cory Barlog is at the helm. I was so happy when he rejoined SSM a few years back. In my head I was just thinking God of War, God of War, God of War, God of War!

Mistook this for the resurrected GOW thread 😂

Same here.

Also, I'm hoping that one day David Jaffe will return to GoW.

That is fine. My issue wasn't with you being impressed or unimpressed. It was more with saying it is "gameplay in a sense".

It will be interesting to see how much Days Gone has changed in a year, particularly in terms of polish. The concept seems great but the game looked rough last year, I think unlike a game such as Horizon, the changes from when it was shown to release will be a lot more dramatic because the studio has not made a console game in ages and are getting shit together. Gameplay wise Days Gone looks interesting because you can't basically kill a horde, it's more a case of making it out alive.

It's a year where I don't actually care about new games getting announced, just seeing more of what has been announced. God of War has to be there, Days gone as well which I think will start looking a lot smoother, Detroit, Spiderman and Dreams.

There will be the obvious Sucker Punch reveal but from a first party standpoint, don't think there's much left to announced but rather show more of whats already been shown.

Jaffe making a sequel to this would blow my mind.

Absolutely.

Jaffes vision for God of War 3 was Kratos going Norse.

"What David Jaffe talked about doing was — and I'm not sure how it would happen — basically, you destroy Greek mythology and then Norse mythology is right around the corner", Asmussen told GamePro. "That's the next thing that Kratos would go after. It becomes clear at the end that he's going to become this harbinger of death across different mythologies in the world and maybe carry the series on from there."

Yeah, but you can definitely see the differences between Horizon's gameplay showings and Days Gone's. Horizon's showed Aloy defeating an enemy or enemies using various methods whereas Days Gone's showed the main character in a very scripted situation with him ending up on top of that roof, the camera even zoomed out to show it. I just think that, unless you're making something like Uncharted which thrives on scripted set-pieces, it's best to show what 90% of the game will look like instead of the 10% and I didn't get any of what SolidSnakex pointed out from that gameplay video.

It's funny reading this after all the hate Square-Enix gets here for announcing KH3 and FFVIIR too early.

I totally agree btw.
I understand how KH fans might feel, because iirc it's been 3 years since they revealed KH3. But at the very least, KH fans know that KH3 is real and it will eventually come out. Just having that confirmation is nice, since you know the series that you love will be continued.

Also, in case of DMC5 it actually would be better if they announce it sooner. Just look at DmC and how that game's combat was changed based on the feedback that they got from the fans through its development. Could you imagine how the combat system in the final product might've been if they had only announce it 5-6 months before its release? Environmental finisher, mid combat slow-downs, mid combat finishers, possibly some QTEs.... ugh.

Yes and yes.

All of this sounds great. I had forgotten about snow when reading all that info a year back. Snow is particularly ambitious if they go with implementing it in a fully dynamic weather system. I'm thinking about AC3, with Connor wading in knee-deep snow, affecting animations, gameplay, traversal. Gets me excited.

Im really looking forward to Days Gone.

I wonder if they'll go with a famous actor for the main character.
You wonder who they'll go with for the main character or main villain? We already know who's playing the main character, it's Sam Witwer.

Days Gone reminds me of a different take on Left 4 Dead. I hope it's successful so we could get a sequel with co-op and a mode similar to versus from L4D.

Actually you are compeltely wrong, as there was nothing scripted from what they habe showed of Days Gone.
Infact they have released a second video, showing different approach.

Just watched it and it is cool but, again, I'm still not hyped. It is definitely the least hyped I've been for a first-party Sony game in a while, hoping E3 proves me wrong.

Was it leaked or hinted there would be a big firmware update?
Yes (though it hasn't been vetted as far as I know so take it with a grain of salt) in this post:
So two things, one I'm not sure what the rule is on GAF for vetting, but I don't want to mention who he/she is, but they have zero reason to fibb.

1. God of War is fucking amazing. You are absolutely not prepared for what this game is.
2. TBD on vetting, I don't want to disclose any info of person and risk getting banned. It's firmware related.

I can't wait for E3.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand how a person can not be hyped from what they have showed. I was addressing your "scripted" comment (check the other video, there should be two).
Given that they only showed one small segment from the game and what Bend have talked they are aiming, I'm not hyped too. But if they manage to pull half of the stuff, I'm positive that Days Gone will be fine critically and commercially. Time will tell.

RockStar never comes to E3 anymore, but they do have a partnership with Sony....blah i'll keep dreaming.

I'd like to see more of Days Gone, supposedly it is deeper than just a zombie game,

Days Gone honestly bored the hell out of me, and ending the conference on gameplay left a sour taste in my mouth. Especially after how unique and interesting the rest of the conference was. A new take on God of War (one of Sony's biggest franchises..), Resident Evil, a Spider-Man game that doesn't look like it'll suck etc. Days Gone looked so mundane and "been there, done that" to me. I hope it has a smaller presence at E3, unless they have something interesting to show. Should've just let Bend make Syphon Filter.

Why would their first party title they plan to promote have a smaller presence

What would be different about Syphon Filter for PS4 that would exclude it from your "been there done that" rationale?

When did the last Syphon Filter release again? How many good stealth games are there nowadays?

Now how many post-apocalyptic games have we gotten, even in the past two years? Hell, Sony already has that genre covered with TLOU and Horizon. No need for another one.
