Everyone has someone in their family like this. My version of your dad has long had an issue with accepting any admission that they are ever wrong. At this point she clings to anything to make that not become a reality for as long as possible. She's like a walking and talking Fox News spin machine fighting the war against #fakenews from anonymous sources at this point.

We used to get into political arguements, but for some reason she just stopped caring about facts around the election. She is smarter than this and was never this naïve before, but what ya going to do? So now I just occasional ask if she has been watching the news and walk away :)

Same here. I wouldn't call him a trump supporter, per se, as much as a Hillary hater.

Largely he seems not to like Trump, but basically defends him anyway with whataboutisms for Hillary.

I also don't love Hillary, but like, it was pretty clear who the better choice was in 2016.

Trump has lived his entire life being protected from the consequences of his actions by luck, by his cabal of lawyers and villains, by his inherited wealth, by his abuse of a ludicrous tax code, by cheating people out of money and by licensing his persona to people who think he's "classy."

He has no reason to think he will ever face consequences because while he's gone bankrupt and been in trouble multiple times, he so far, has always come out on top, making worse and worse decisions.

America needs to take a good hard look at itself after this - every aspect of itself, but I can guarantee you the GOP will not cooperate in that self-reflection and instead double down on the bad lessons to be learned from this:

Not exactly true. Adam Goldman of the NYT and Benjamin Wittes of Lawfare (friend of Comey's) were hyping something coming yesterday, which ended up being the Comey Memos.

Wittes tweeted "ticktickticktick" earlier in the day.

Losing his way of life, from what reports have stated over the years no bank will lend him money, he has gone through multiple bankruptcies and signs point to outside loans for money. He might still have somewhere to go to in Russia if he can escape the worst of it but if they pull the rug from underneath because he didn't do what they wanted what happens to him financially especially if he is under potentially criminal financial investigations?

Until this shit is sorted, Trump should be restrained from making any decisions that will affect long term or foreign policy. He should not be allowed to unilaterally pull us out of fucking alliances like NATO, especially when such a move serves nobody's best interests except fucking Putin's and everybody knows it.

I read an idea that Trump isn't actually being blackmailed somewhere. Instead, it suggested that he might be so incompetent that he really thinks he's just in a business arrangement with Russia. I am willing to give that idea my ear.

I also think mental illness is a possibility.

The interview was like an hour ago and it was pretty short, but basically he opened up saying that he had no reason not to trust Comey if the reported contents of his memos are proven to be real. Then he followed that up by saying he still had full faith in Trump and spent a couple of minutes trying to bring Trump's "wins" so far as a president.

Pretty much this. It was an awkwardly worded way of saying he'd trust Comey over Trump if the memo's contents are real.

I think for that specific reason people are worried that nothing will happen to him. But let's put "nothing" in context here. He's being raked over the coals. What he wants to have happen isn't happening. The people he's hired are having to be fired. So when people say nothing, I doubt they literally mean nothing.

Everyone wants the megaton to drop, and they're desperate for it. They want to see absolute, object embarrassment, humiliation, and punishment for someone whose only repercussions in this life seem to revolve around losing a bit of money. People posting bullshit sources stating that things will happen instantly don't help, which I'm glad a lot of people are calling out.

We're getting closer, one day at a time, one story at a time, one leak at a time. It would kill me if he got to slink away, although I think it's becoming more clear he won't. At least from my perspective.

If I had to pinpoint why so many people excuse this kind of behavior, I'd attribute it to the idea that seems common in much of America which is that if you're rich and successful, you've afforded yourself the freedom to do whatever you please. Not letting Trump profit from the presidency is seen, by a large enough group of idiots, as punishing him for being successful. There are surely a lot of other factors, but I think that's a big part of it.

If you're only seeing misery and pain, you're looking at all the wrong things. There is still so much good in the world if you simply look for it.

If you constantly look at the news, read about developing countries, read about wars and terrorism in the Middle East, then naturally you will only see misery and pain.

Both could work. The first would work because the metadata on the file would show it was created at the time. The second is better as it spreads the knowledge and impressions to your close team or supervisors.

At my work I do both of those depending on the topic and its sensitivity.

I really don't think it even has to be that. Trump has a massive ego and lives in his own fantasy world. He probably really does think whatever he's done is no big deal, and he would never actually admit to any wrongdoing on anything.

To me this is all Trump's Razor. You don't need a convoluted explanation for his doings when the answer can just as easily be that the guy's a fucking lunatic moron. It explains everything so far.
