Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

I must say that, as someone whose never played Destiny past the demo, I had no idea what half the terms in that reveal meant. I doubt I'll buy Destiny 2 not because I think it'll be a bad game but because I never feel right getting into such massive MMO-like series far after their community's been established; whilst everyone will be rejoining whoever they played D1 with I'll be some low-level 'noob' still figuring out what a Strike is.

I think it looks like a reboot of Destiny 1, down to the UI, weapons and armor being more or less exactly the same. This is what the first game should have been - and it'll most likely be good - but it looks like a step in the right direction instead of a leap forward.

Wow, all those rumors were true. Destiny 2 looks great. Really glad to see the focus on a cinematic story. The opening level was awesome, and I like that it actually looks a bit different graphically.

My one concern is that the playspaces won't be that open. EDZ on Earth looks great, but how much of that is just skyboxes versus actual playable spaces? I want less tight, dark corridors, and more big, open explorable spaces.

but it looks like a step in the right direction instead of a leap forward.

Yeah, for sure. It speaks volumes that some basic features (like a map and a story) are some of the best improvements to the game.

Lackluster presentation overall, and the game is about in line with what I expected. Some new content, QOL improvements, and a general refinement of the D1 formula.

Will probably be enough to get me to buy in, but not enough to have me overly excited or feeling that this is a huge step up for the franchise.

My thoughts exactly - it seems really 'safe'.

QOL changes are nice, but lets be honest, most of them could of / should of been in D1 at least from the point of gen 7 switch off, if not before.

Sorry to ask this again, but the thread is moving fast. Was there any word on whether weapon balancing would be separate from single and multiplayer, or is the balancing still linked? I hop it's separated.

they never said it's separate , just 4v4 for all is the biggest change

To reiterate for the fast moving thread, content concerns were kind of alleviated by the leaker.

He said the story is around 10-15 hours and there's a ton more post game content than D1.

Mmm not really feeling the Destiny "2" vibe... it looked more like an expansion to me... but we will have to wait and see, still going to play this.

Pretty good presentation.

The game seems okay. A pretty safe sequel but with some very welcome changes.
Didn't really see anything mind-blowing and aside from PC only gamers I saw little to get those that haven't played so far interested in it.

But as someone who enjoyed the original except for some major flaws (lackluster campaign and not being able to play some content because I didn't have a big team), this seems to fix most of what I disliked about the original. So I'll be picking this up for sure.

Still, I think this could have worked as a $60 expansion or something like that. Feels kinda dissapointing to leave everything behind since it doesn't seem to bring major changes to the formula or style.

I put the first game down after getting to 20 and doing the first raid. After watching this reveal, I say no thanks. Too many good games reportedly coming out this fall. Bungie's lost me.

I think my biggest problem is this looks like a natural extension of the first game almost worryingly so. Maybe I expected too much but no 60fps, end game stuff is basically the same from what we know and even the UI is barely altered. I'm still gonna get it day one, I'm excited for the weapon system and FINALLY having European Dead zone out of PVP but man... I just don't get why they refuse to target 60 frames for a game like this on console.

Could someone explain me how matchmaking will work this time?

I've struggled to finish Destiny 1 cause there was no matchamaking. People used to tell me "just pop in a thread and ask for a help, you will find someone pretty fast" and I used to stand in the game hub (that city I forgot the name) for hours trying to find someone.

The game plays good. But playing alone is shitty and I don't want to struggle to find people to play with again.

I was hoping for more stuff to do with your spaceship. Space battles would've been a new, exciting gameplay pillar for Destiny. Without something dramatically new like that all the actual changes and updates feel iterative more than anything.

I really think I'm going to pass on this. I wasn't impressed by anything I saw. The content didn't really scream "sequel" to me. And then to see the're making it exclusive to the Blizzard Launcher, sorry Battle.net Launcher, whatever little hype I had was killed off.

I missed the later half of the reveal, did they talk about anything regarding a "overworld" or whatever? Larger areas, more stuff to explore/discover? It was one of my bigger disappointments when I first tried Destiny 1, the open worlds was quite small and corridory, only consisted of going from point A to B and shoot dudes along the way. Really wanted to walk around and discover the history of the world.

that is what Guided Games are for

Expected more than the same number of planets as last time.

Expected a true open world with quest givers scattered about...

Expected a more dramatic difference in visuals (either 60 fps or a big improvement at 30 fps)

One raid?

Here's hoping Destiny 2 doesn't have the content issues the first game had at launch. :(

Hey now, we can't have too much content in the full game. Gotta sell those "expansions".

They were saying that the EDZ is twice as big as any playspace they ever designed for D1, so the new areas seem pretty sizeable.

Trust me. The ones defending it are even funnier.

There's nothing to defend. D1 has 400k-500k log on's a week still. On a 3 year old base game with no PC installation base.

Destiny 2 is going to be huge, haters or not. The only thing one can hope is that it does enough to bring in new fans.

My thoughts exactly. RDR2, Mario, Battlefront 2, etc. Hell, this year's COD will be the first one I've bought in a long time too.

well, he did mention "PS4 Pro 4k goodness", but I'm sure its just upscaling

Upscaling is a word that gets thrown around too much. I bet it's like 1800p checkboarded and locked 30 which would be a lot better than D1, taking into account the improved FX and environments

I liked that part where they show a location that looks like it would be in a RPG with people and everything and where they then explained there would be extra/optional quests and things to do. That did look good.

If they bring that and on top of that new stuff with updates it's probably going to be what the first one should have been like. Probably going to be worth it for me.

Say what you will about the game not being on Steam. But if they were to use any client. I'm glad that it's Battle.net. Blizzard has a very good client. I can't think of a bad time that I've had while playing Overwatch on PC. The only issue with B.net is that you get charged taxes on purchases.

It is weird they launch COD WW2 on Steam but not Destiny 2.

CoD sales like shit on PC, Destiny WILL do phenomenal. So putting it on Battle.net will not only allow them to make 100% of the prophet, but allow all the players of other Blizzard games to see Destiny's icon right there with their other games. Its an exposure/profit thing.
