Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here to be honest. Why wouldn't people be excited for a sequel that could potentially fix many of the fundamental issues they had with the predecessor?

More Destiny is fine, same as how more World of Warcraft is fine, but those who aren't 'in' with the Destiny gameplay, lore and world complaining that they aren't being catered to are not wrong.
And what are those problems? What were you expecting? I'm very curious, tbh. Destiny is not the game that came out 3 years ago, it evolved to something way better. It's like a large portion of GAF got stuck in the vanilla Destiny timeline.

I call dibs as Second In Charge of GAF's PS4 clan

You all can fight for Leader, I'll take Secondary Leader role and make everyone go farm

What do you mean "real planet exploration"? Did you pay attention to the stream at all? They revamped the open world, you have NPCs giving you quests, ruins and other shit to find out, there is exploration.

After No man's sky set the bar, how could anyone settle for less than that kind of real planet exploration

By the trailer it doesn't feel like Destiny 2 to me. If someone told me it was a new expansion I would toally believe. lol

I'm interested to know more about the matchamking though. You will need to enter a clan to use a matchmaking-like system? Will there be a standard matchamking for things that are not Raids?

I mean, if you leave out all the other new stuff/additions they are making to the game yeah. It's gonna be a Destiny game that actually has content to support it longer from day 1. Or what Destiny 1 should of been.
Still watching the stream.

Am up to the "go between planets without going to orbit first" part. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I am assuming for Strikes it will be the same matchmaking. For raids you either make a group, go with clan, or look for a clan who has a open spot.

This is such a weird reveal.

Hey guys, we have a new campaign! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Strikes are back! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
More cinematics than ever! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Crucible is now all about the PvP player! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
There's a new RAID! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

...

I mean, it is Destiny 2, right?

Agree completely. What is the game if it didn't have a campaign, strike and raid? You don't have a game. Of course this stuff is in. I can't believe there's only one strike to do.

You don't need to enter a clan to use matchmaking for the raids... you just select a clan that is helping out new players or solo players and you play with them. If you and the clan team enjoy playing maybe you get into the clan full time. Get the idea? It's like a tryout.

There is going to be more than 1 strike wtf how do people keep saying this. There is 1 strike currently playable by the people at the event, not 1 strike total in the game.

I didn't take that as confirming only one strike. Just that that one strike is playable at the event.

For my part Strikes were the only reason to play Destiny 1. Pure, meaty, solidly paced PvE co-op combat.

I see! It could be interesting! Probably much better than the lack of it in the 1st game. I will keep an eye on it. I think Destiny plays great, but I had a hard time finding people to play with, and the experience was very frustrating.

Obviously. But they are trying to hype people by saying they have 1 new strike. This doesn't hype me at all. What would impress me is a total number of strikes or explaining what improvements they've made to strikes. Strikes became very repetitive. It would be nice if each one had some different variables so it feels more unique each time.

So im guessing raids and nightfall are still no matchmaking then?

I just saw the guided games thing. Im 90% sure this was my idea...

Some PvP news that has me soured now:

-4v4 across all PvP game modes which is already known, Means RIP Crucible trains
-Heavy Ammo only allotted to the person who picks it up, which is good to stop 12 people having rockets and machine guns up at a point, but since your Sniper, Shotgun and Fusion are all heavy weapons now, only one person will have that any any given point. Which makes the game less "play how you want" like the first and more "play like Halo Reach" with one power weapon on map and abilities everywhere.
-Titan/Warlock skating got canned. So RIP interesting movement mechanics.

Overall looks like they're trying to get Halo players back, which is cool for Halo players, but not so cool for people who liked Destiny more. It's not like they're letting people maintain accuracy while they jump so it'll just be Halo but dumber.

that sucks...

Rip Traveler?

Immediately with the first mission, the game looks a lot more cinematic. Last gen was definitely holding the game back. It does look a lot like Destiny 1, but that really isn't a bad thing. I was afraid they would try to reinvent the game, because although a lot in D1 needed work, there was also a lot of things the game excelled at. I know they mentioned a lot of the new things that would encourage exploration, but I really wanted to see it in action. I wanted to see if you were truly going to be able to find an NPC in the world, and speak to them, receive quests, and go back to them to receive your rewards. We also didn't see any engrams from killing enemies, so I wonder if that'll work in the same way, because the game is truly all about the loot. I'm guessing the multiplayer instances within the world work the same way they did in D1, but I hope they make the world feel a lot more lively. There's still a lot we haven't seen, and I hope the details start pouring in sooner rather than later. I'm definitely a lot more stoked for the Beta.

I know it seems like a dumb question, but when they talked about their Guided Groups thing, they always talked about it as one person looking for another group to reach the player requirements. I would like to assume they have the other permutations covered right? If I've got me and friend, I would like to assume we can find 4 to do a raid and so on.

They didn't try to hype people saying they had one new strike. They just said regular strikes and Nightfall strikes are back, and they have one of the former for people to play today.

But I'm with you on wanting details. There are a lot of details not talked about - far more than they did talk about - that will get unpacked at other events and in press (GI cover story with details is inevitable). This was pretty typical of how Bungie reveals Destiny stuff - it was a top level overview, everything else comes later.

The aspect of the game that I am most interested in is world exploration. They talked about treasure maps, updated approach to public events, "dungeons" with bosses, "adventures", etc. as being a key pillar of the game. But they only talked about them - that's where my strongest interest lies right now.

While I'm definitely looking forward to this as it looks like they've remedied many of Destiny's biggest issues which should make for an excellent game, it definitely seems like it could have been built on top of the first game. Not saying it's a minor amount of content, but to me this looks much more like one of the more substantial WoW expansion packs, rather than a new game: update the graphics a bit, make some gameplay tweaks, add a few abilities, add a bunch of Quality of life features, new story, new cinematics, and a world overhaul.

I wonder if at one point this was the approach they wanted to take, to rebuild Destiny on top of itself like an MMO, and technical obstacles of the original being built in a generation-gap prevented it so they chose to split it into a new game.

Megaton. Holy sht. I'll take the slightly upgraded visuals for that 60fps goodness. That's huge! Wonder if that's just on pro though.

Ya, just give me a few more strikes, and some unexpected enemy types and I'll be happy. Got a little tired of the reused enemy types in d1.

Now that they said the old supers/subclasses are returning, I'm totally down with the remade subclasses. That fire blade Phoenix warlock is hella sick compared to the old edition!

NOOOOOOO!!! That might have been my favorite small part of the game.

Not sure if this has been asked/answered already, but are the PC and PS4 players on the same servers? Can PC Players play with PS4 players?

And Can I play the same character/account on PC and PS4? Can I switch between the 2?

I don't know because, as I've explained previously, I don't like getting into established community-based games like Destiny unless there's some big overhaul. I wouldn't be able to make an entirely informed conclusion so I won't, though from reactions I can tell that it isn't as big a leap from vanilla Destiny as you imply it to be.

However, what I do know is that relying so heavily on the lore and characters of Destiny 1 has made me completely uninterested in buying the game for its story content. The opening cutscene and level goes straight in to showing people you have no clue about being attacked by a group you also have no clue about. In a sequel like this that's supposed to bring in new people who didn't put 10s of hours into the predecessor and all its DLC the least they could have done is not throw us in the deep end. This isn't like Halo where getting up to speed required a quick playthrough of short-ish campaigns.

So what if you have two players who want to play a raid? That was usually the case for me.

Do you make a clan of two players and then use the raid matchmaking for solo players?

The first extended cinematic they showed was set before Destiny 1 - setting up how the Guardians came to be, how they gathered, the building of the Last Safe City, introducing the key characters, etc. We got none of that in Destiny 1, and it's pretty clearly done to set the stage for players new to the universe.

Destiny got a big overhaul with Taken King, BTW. That re-set the foundation for its evolution for the following two years.

So what if you have two players who want to play a raid?

Do you make a clan of two players and then use the raid matchmaking for solo players?

I think you'd be in a fire team and the fire team leader would set up the beacon for the sherpa activity. At least that what I took away from the system. This is speculation, but it would then make sense that groups who can accommodate them then get notified.

The way it was shown in the UI is you join a Raid/Nightfall playlist as either a "Seeker" or a "Guide" and MM appropriately.

The assumption being you can be a Guide with any # of players and Seeker with any # of players in your Fireteam and the system will figure it out and give you choices of who to join.

1. All consoles are on different servers, so PC players and PS4 players cannot play with each other.

2. We don't know if Cross-Save is a thing yet. The rumor was that it may be, just definitely not at launch.
