Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

This is my worry:

Do you need to hover over Heroic to see the options appear or did they seriously introduce this to only work with normal. (Which doesn't even make sense because anything less than heroic on a Nightfall makes it not an actual Nightfall.)

It's entirely possible they may rework heroics or are saving it for later. Seems too soon to panic over it.

Honestly, they need to confirm you can use it with any number of individuals seeking and guiding. All they talked about is needing one more person.

What if me and a friend want to do a raid? Can we join 4 others? Can we host our own fireteam and find 4 others?

Cause if it's just catering to solo players, that's also unacceptable IMO.

He said "One or two more players" but the video showed one player joining into a group of two other players.

I don't think it's limited to just one player joining a raid. I think they just focused on that because most people that have trouble are solo or duo. 3+3 should be possible for raids. No reason to have that distinction.

My worry for D2 is that they leave out matchmaking/LFG for the Story campaign.

Please don't. I want to play those missions in co-op with randoms.

Ask yourself why would that be a thing.

People need to seriously start thinking what they're asking.

I didn't ask for it but it makes some sense. Similar reasoning for FH3 to play in either environment and often location. Also some of us have friends in both worlds, pc and ps4 and it would be nice to not have to grind out another character to play with them on two systems.

Phase 3 has begun!

If you are skeptical about the amount of content the sequel might have, I don't see how watching a live reveal is going to fix that.

It's cool you were happy with the amount of content in the vanilla game but for a game that centered on leveling and looting for gear, it was definitely lacking. It wouldn't have been hard at all to address this in the stream. Just share a little bit more info like "our campaign has 3x the missions as the first, with 4x the items to collect, on worlds twice as large as before." It wouldn't have answered all my questions or concerns but it would of have been better than the vague info they gave in the stream.

This only requires Cross Saves. Not Cross Play. Cross Play would make this even easier but is asking for advantage/disadvantage between control schemes.

Fingers crossed for cross saves.

I assume it's there too, but it's something that needs to be confirmed just to be on the safe side. Nothing like people assuming it will be there and then on September 18th or whenever the raid drops, it's just available for solo players.

Its weird seeing people think the destiny hate is gaf thing. Go look at the comments on ign, kotaku, and most people are sharing the same sentiments as many here are. I don't even think its so much hate as it is genuine disappointment.

One thing that I think is really cool (and Shinobi talked about this last year) is that the story is built in a way that would eventually allow them to add new and improved versions of D1 content.

Like I think it would be neat if eventually through DLC we can go back into the Cosmodrome and see how it changed during the fall.

This would literally make me rage beyond belief, if they took out this content only to sell it back to us down the road. I would love if they did it for free but the pessimist in me tellls me there is no way they miss out on that opportunity.

I'm pretty disappointed. After putting over 1,000 hours in the first Destiny, I was hoping for something that felt new and fresh. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case with the sequel. It looks like an expansion and 30FPS (on console) is highly disappointing.

Is this the only AAA game this year that will run at 30FPS in competitive multiplayer?

Yep, at the very least, this Guided Games thing should be available for story missions as well.

However, it really should just be normal blind matchmaking that has an on/off toggle.

I'd be okay with that. Those places hold a lot of memories

Can't figure out if Destiny GAF or Final Fantasy GAF is worse^^

I honestly see everybody's issues and even agree with most of them, but I feel like some of them are smaller, premature or a result of some self indulged hype issues. There is still a lot to learn about the game in the next 4 months, I'm sure and if it plays like the original Destiny, I'm happy. And this is coming from someone who has been extremely vocal about how the first Destiny was delivered and managed lol

Super excited about that idea.I just don't want them being like, "Mars is back! That'll be $20 please."

The "it looks like an expansion" comments are ridiculous. It looks like a sequel.

I don't know who expected Destiny to be completely rebuilt from the ground up, but its literally the Destiny experience reimagined and redesigned with a better engine and for better hardware. Thats practically the definition of a sequel.

Well a few things. One, it's not taking out content, as this is a new game and that content would have never existed here anyways.

But mainly, I think that if they just add the maps back exactly how they were and left it at that, then yeah I could see the outrage. But what I'm talking about is more like it's similar and you can tell it's some of the same places, but there's more to it and it has all the new exploration stuff in it (like it's bigger, has dungeons to explore, new treasure to find, etc.). Basically the raid of the Cabal would have changed the place up dramatically, while you can still tell it's the Cosmodrome.

If they go all out with it and make it feel like a new version of something old, I have no issue with it being part of paid DLC.

It's not a GAF thing. It's a bitter thing. For a lot of the more excessively negative comments, it comes from a place where they're still mad about D1. So anything short of a game that caused a complete paradigm shift in Shooters wasn't going to result in a positive response.

There are more measured comments about disappointment, of course, as well. And those aren't included in the above.

This doesn't just happen with Destiny either. It happens in a lot of games when people get angry over the initial game or at least the launch version. Refusal to acknowledge any positive changes and downplaying any new additions.

Definitely looks like a full blown sequel to me

Yeah, but D1 wasn't that good. The fact they are reusing assets meant for D1 dlc doesn't inspire much confidence.

Well said, I completely agree. I'll be on PC, and depending on the release date for PC, I may double dip and play it on PS4 first.

so will they show more on E3?

I'm not getting much from the summaries as I didn't watch the livestream. Did they not show new hubs?

Is there an in depth summary where they promised to have more content than Destiny 1 vanilla?

I appreciate that clans are now in-game instead of a dumb side thought like in D1, do they still have member limits? DestinyGAF clan management was a fucking nightmare during vanilla.

Exactly this. We still don't know all the facts, this was just a reveal after all. I didn't want Destiny to stop being, well Destiny.

I wonder if there's a new enemy race they haven't revealed yet. I'm still curious what the fuck the darkness is.... all those theories on it in the grimoire are incredibly interesting. I sincerely hope we find clues in game.

The VOD is up on twitch.tv/bungie and there will be more videos and impressions going up all day (Video embargo ends at 6pm PST). The summaries so far aren't great because there's a lot of info that isn't said but can be gleaned through screen shots of the presentation. I'd give it a day or so at the max before a clear picture of what was shown can be put down accurately.

I wanted Destiny to be the game they gushed over until release, not the weird half-mmo/hall-shooter will all the drawbacks that we got.

That game died the moment the game they actually released sold 20 million copies. They are going further in a direction they think their players want.

Is there only one new strike?

No. People are misinterpreting the presenter talking about the "one strike" that was available for people attending today to play.

Having played Destiny for a shameful amount of hours and getting every exotic before the last expansion that I didn't buy, this reveal doesn't have me interested at all. Kind of feels like they did the bare minimum to even call it a sequel. Still have yet to see anything outside the stream but I was expecting a breakdown of better character customization options and actually gameplay improvements. Clans and in game lfg are cool but way over due. I'll check out more info later but this was pretty meh for such a big event.

Also salty that they gave blade dancer a stick and warlock shoots fireballs from bad ass swords now. Maybe hunters can trade the bow for a sling slot and guns for flare guns...

Kind of feels like they did the bare minimum to even call it a sequel.

- Replaced one subclass for each class with a brand new one
- Four completely new planets/areas to explore. No repeats from Destiny 1.
- The areas are much bigger with more people
- Completely new campaign with a much bigger story -- not just a few new missions like Rise of Iron or even Taken King
- Social hubs on planets
- NPCs to interact with; side-quests
- "Adventures" that include finding treasure when exploring, using treasure maps
- PvP is completely redesigned: everything is 4v4 now so it's less hectic and more skill-based; snipers and shotguns are now heavy weapons so they'll be used less
- In-game group finder for Raids

Bare minimum indeed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but, that skill tree looks really barren.

Another cool tidbit included here (and lots of room for speculation, haha).

This is the Nightfall mode selection screen. Says that we need to take out SIVA-corrupted Fallen. Of course this is probably a placeholder, but could also mean that the Devil Splicers aren't completely done yet. We may see new versions in D2.

Also a look into the new modifiers. What could they be? Timewarp: Anomalies has the Vex symbol there.

I know this screen is worrying for some, since it's implying that heroic activities still don't have matchmaking. I'm cautiously optimistic. Seeing a Nightfall having Normal and Heroic difficulties means to me that they are experimenting with the idea of additional challenge and increased replayability. This is what the game is all about, and expanding on that is important.

That looked a lot more samey than what I was expecting...

I guess different engine doesn't really mean different looking game, but still.

The MMO like splitting up of skills into different classes was really offputting. give me a fucking weapon wheel and why not allow me to double jump, hover and dash at the same time

It's 1am here, caught up with the reveal stream and read through this thread. Reminds me all again of the Destiny launch with its decisive opinions.

Hope the expanded side missions really delivered on the idea of exploring in this one.
Wonder how many can join a clan, glad we can avoid using the website now for clan updates and grimoire information.

So excited to get back into Destiny, already pre-ordered and got the Beta code. TheCommonDan is back and raring for action! Time to find all those shader codes again lol

PC is your salvation

Can you provide a link? I haven't heard a squeak about the development of D2.
Ah you know what? I was thinking of the long piece they did about D1 (starting over midway, cobbling narrative together just before launch, etc). That's my bad.

However this article alluded to problems with the Destiny content pipeline in general, and mention the D2 delay: http://kotaku.com/the-great-destiny-malaise-of-2016-175449556.

From what I understand, Bungie spent longer making Destiny than their contract with Activision envisaged, meaning that they are now playing catch-up for the remaining games owed.

Hmm... leaker last night said no SIVA in D2. He was right about a lot of things. Maybe he was wrong about that.

Could very easily be a placeholder.

Even if SIVA-enhanced enemies aren't in the game at launch, I'm positive they'll be back at some point. Looking forward to it.

Oh yeah, that would be great, having additional challenges.

But it needs to have the matchmaking, just as normal does. No excuses.

He also said Fireteams were 4 people.
