Nintendo E3 plans detailed

Yeah IIRC Miyamoto's quote was not that Retro could work on two project simultaneously, but he was hoping that theoretically it was something that could happen... or something. And I think a guy from Retro even addressed that, saying that they can find the time to fit in development assistance with Mario Kart 7 between DKCR and Tropical Freeze, but there's a difference between that, and doing Donkey Kong while developing MK7 from the ground-up by themselves.

Yes, that was Michael Kelbaugh, president of Retro Studios. When Tropical Freeze was announced and everyone thought they were surely developing Metroid Prime 4 in conjunction, he stated that Retro can do a big project and a small project at once, but not two big projects together.

Yeah, that's what I was mis-remembering, thanks for the clarification.

I really wonder what they're doing with Metroid - they surely got the message that people don't want something like Federation Force, between all the negative reception and poor sales. At least from my own research, people seem to want a Switch Metroid Prime-Style game that follows Samus and is set in the existing universe.

Ah well, Reggie did bother to give Metroid fans hope for a "true installment" announcement within the next 7 months, so maybe we're about to hear something good, I don't know anymore with Nintendo.

I still have a hard time seeing Stars releasing this year if it is indeed coming. With Splatoon 2, Odyssey, Skyrim, and other rare but still significant third-party games coming later in the year, Nintendo will be struggling to produce enough stock as it is. Adding an exclusive mainline Pokemon game on top of that just seems crazy. Logistically it just doesn't make sense.

I'm thinking it was in the cards for a 2017 release to give the Switch a nice boost in its first year, but then when they saw the explosive success they figured it wasn't necessary after all.

What are tha chances of MH showing up at E3?

We might get a release date for XX in the west. I don't believe a new MH has ever been announced at E3.

I think if the next mainline Pokémon (Stars?) isn't announced within the next few weeks or at E3 chances of it releasing this year are quite low. The Pokémon Company has always been marketing their games for quite a while before they actually release.

However, it's not impossible. They could announce it a bit later to tie-in the marketing with the new Pokémon movie (especially if it's D/P remakes somehow) or simply don't feel the need to promote the game longer this time around. I mean, I don't expect Stars to have tons of new content anyway to warrant a long marketing campaign. Both of these scenarios feel kinda unlikely though.

What are the chances of MH showing up at E3?

MH as in Monster Hunter for Switch? Close to zero in my opinion. They will probably hold their own event if they decide to announce one this year. There's also Tokyo Game Show later. MH is much more popular in Japan anyway. Little reason to announce it at an E3.

After Super Mario Ball and Metroid Prime Pinball, I feel we were robbed of a good pinball adaptation for 3DS.

I therefore propose we get a Warioware Pinball game for Switch this E3.

We had Mario, Metroid, Pokemon and Kirby pinballs.... the next is obviously Zelda pinball

I just need more release dates for indies.

Feels like the big first wave of downloadables is coming to a close this week.

Stuff like Minecraft, Mr Shifty, Thumper, FAST, Snipper Clips, Tumbleseed ect... are out on the eShop now.

Time give us a rundown of what eShop titles we are gonna get this summer to go along with ARMS and Splat 2.

Hollow Knight is what's next on my radar, hopefully that's coming soon now that they have help for porting.

I just hope they announce their VC plans for the switch and thankfully include gamecube games. We had enough Nes games already move up on the generations.

Oh... a glimpse of the new Fire Emblem would also be much appreciated. We really gotta applaud Intelligent Systems. Lol they are awesome and are managing to push out more than other Nintendo 1st party studios at a faster rate.

I want to see at least one unannounced, first party-develop, full price switch game that's not a port this E3. It will be kind of disappointing if there's not.

I think they might skip a nindie in this week's update, since both Disgaea 5 and SF2 have releases this week.

GoNNER releases next week, in EU at least.

And I think I read something about Overcooked and Battle Sports Mekuru (Project Mekuru) arriving pretty soon. Don't remember the source, though.
EDIT: Seems like Battle Sports Mekuru is already on the Japanese eShop.

it would be absolutely INSANELY BONKERS if this does not happen. I guess it's better people's expectations are trending this way rather than thinking Nintendo will announce everything under the sun for Switch.

I just got a 200gb microSD card with an Amazon gift card, and thinking about every VC game being on this tiny tablet I can take anywhere is just mind blowing. I really hope there's an upgrade option for Wii U/Wii VC owners, as I'd be getting a hell of a lot of games if so.

I'd say there's a 99.5% chance of that happening.

What was the latest news that we've had on the Retro Studios and Nintendo fronts respectively, regarding the next entry in the Metroid series?

Well, we never get any news about that. Tanabes interview from two years ago clearly had him saying he wanted to continue the Metroid Prime games with Samus and Sylux after Metroid Prime Federation Force. He said if they ever made a Metroid Prime game for a console it would have to be for "NX" at the time. He also said he doesn't know what Retro is doing. All of this tells me Retro Studios is not making a new Metroid Prime game. If there is one it will be from someone else, probably third party.

Didn't this turn out to be a misinterpretation?

No. It was a report from Liam's sources that told him Tanabe and Retro had a falling out. To me they're either working on a brand new IP or another old Nintendo IP that they're bringing back.

What if it was either A) 3D Donkey Kong or B) Diddy/Donkey Kong Racing?

Please no Diddy Kong Racing. Would be extremly disappointed if its another cartoony racer, since we have Mario Kart. Would add nothing to Switch' lineup and is even worse of a situation than DKTF back in 2014 on the Wii U. I would even prefer Retro to make DKTF 2 on Switch than DKR, since I loved that game. So yeah, DKR would be my worst case scenario.

I hope its a new "darker" IP or a Metroid though. Something that adds diversity to the Switch lineup and is not cartoony.

With rumors of a new Metroid, or maybe multiple Metroids (Retro & Climax?), is the Switch poised to bebome the MetroidVania golden house?

I mean there's already :

Axiom Verge (?)
Bloodstained : Ritual of the night
Cave Story+
Dandara
Dead cells
Hollow Knight
Kova
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (is it platformer now or metroidvania?)
Steamworld dig 2

Missing any? I hope Ghost song comes too :o
God i love this genre, i will purchase every single one of these.

Google Calendar defaults to listing things in half-hour intervals, so all we know for sure is that it's more than a half hour, I guess?

Whenever I've used it to put in an event with a starting time it always defaults to an hour, not half hour. I guess I could be wrong since I don't typically click the "add to calendar" links on various websites but at least when I manually put in an event it defaults to an hour.

Man... I've been thinking about the showcase and realizing that my biggest want is Virtual Console at this point. So many Nintendo classics are comfort food for me and having them readily available would greatly increase the amount of time I spend playing my Switch.

What are tha chances of MH showing up at E3?

Zero percent. I don't see why it would be revealed in the west. Unless it's a MH game being announced with a localization date.

I am going to take one day off for e3. Going to watch Treehouse and Splatoon / Arms tournament on the comfy sofa!

Nice! It should be lots of fun. It's always fun when everyone watches the Treehouse.

I want to see at least one unannounced, first party-develop, full price switch game that's not a port this E3. It will be kind of disappointing if there's not.

I'll go with 100% you'll see this.

Even though that's a false/banned rumor, Tanabe's interview holds all the weight and that's all I need to know Retro isn't making Metroid Prime 4.

Isn't that normal that it would default to an hour? I don't think that tells us how long it will be.

Yeah, and I think one hour is too long to keep everyone's attention regardless of the amount of content. I think they will have the Nintendo Spotlight at the "usual" 45-50 minutes, and focus on a "good show".

If they have a lot to show at E3, they will not show everything at the Nintendo Spotlight. At E3 2014, casual-oriented games like MP10 were announced in press releases, with no footage in the E3 Nintendo Digital Event.

Oh, yeah, I think the time is right. Sun/Moon in 2016, Stars in 2017, DP remake in 2018. Then maybe take a year off and do gen 8 in 2020.

Faint chance they switch them around and do DP this year and Stars next year, but I think the first option is more likely. Sun and Moon were so well-received it makes sense to follow them up.

There is absolutely zero chance that they wait until 2020 to get a new generation of Pokémon out. They've already run out of new Pokémon to show off with the Marshadow reveal- they're not going to leave twisting in the wind for three years.

It's far more likely that we get a new generation off the ground within the next two years than having to wait that long.

I was just going by the pattern of how they seem to take an off-year every 4 years. It's possible they take this year or next year off too... I guess they could cut this gen short and have Stars be the end of it, saving DP remake for gen 8.

Even though that's a false/banned rumor, Tanabe's interview holds all the weight and that's all I need to know Retro isn't making Metroid Prime 4.

Oh, I wouldn't personally bet on them doing MP4 either. Just saying that specific report was dubious.

I feel like that's as if Activision revealed COD at TGS. lol

It would be so out of left field if Capcom did that, but in a good way.

Capcom wants to grow the IP in the West, if they take that seriously there couldn't be a better place than E3 and Japanese people are watching too per Nintendos Spotlight.

In the worst case for Switch it will be at Sonys E3 event.

What are the chances of Nintendo announcing the Virtual Console at E3 with a "Out now!" kind of thing?

That would be fantastic!

I hope that happens, but my guess is they're holding it off until the paid online stuff. Then they'll launch all of their online services at the same time, including Virtual Console.

But I would love for it to be in a few weeks, haha.

I wanna play DKC trilogy on switch so bad.

What are the chances of Nintendo announcing the Virtual Console at E3 with a "Out now!" kind of thing?

I'm honestly thinking the chances are pretty high on that one. At least when it comes to NES-N64 games. I fully expect VC titles for Gamecube and Wii as well, but I bet they'll come with their own line of accessories. Even if it just means re-branding the Wii-remote and GC controller adapter again.

I'm also thinking (hoping really) that VC will be part of the 2.0 update for the Switch OS. I don't want VC games bogging down the normal eshop. Give me a dedicated launcher/store for those classic games where I can view my collection and buy new titles. It'd also be a nice way to keep the games organized rather than each one acting as a separate game. Basically I want them to take the "NES Classic" OS and make it a piece of software on the Switch. Once you're in there you can buy/play games to your heart's content.
