Republican Candidate in Montana Special Election Attacks Reporter

True. Wish they had the kind of pull where they could have them on the show because that's what CNN wants but then go on to completely ignore the hell out of them. But they probably love the ratings too and only Anderson Cooper could probably get away with doing that.

They could change it if they really wanted to. I mean, at the end of the day, Cooper is talent, and those others are just expendable mouthpieces. If they actually stood up and said, 'I am not working with this person, I am done with this, find someone else if you have to, but either they go or I go,' and I promise you it would be done.

But they won't. Because they want the ratings, too.

Why are people saying he's screwed? This dude is going to be a republican hero for standing up to the fake news media.

Yeah it's hard to imagine how this shifts anything substantially. A bunch of voters won't hear the news, a bunch won't care or will even support the guy for doing it, and a bunch will stick with him knowing that if he does go to jail or whatever they'll just replace him with a different R. And some will change their R votes to abstains, but that probably doesn't get the job done?

It's the night before the election. Wrestler dude here will just go on total media silence. Not enough time for an investigation by a sheriff who'll drag his feet, not enough time for dude to put his foot in his mouth or look like a coward for dodging questions for a week.

I don't know where you guys are getting this idea from. This shit has already blown up, it's on national news, you know it was all over local nightly news, and is going to be front page on the dailies, and all over the morning news. This is a fairly small place, and I guarantee you just about everyone has already heard about it in some form or fashion.

Whether that will affect the voting, who knows, but it sure as hell won't be because of the lack of knowledge of it lol

Everyone knows that reporting crimes is for pansies.

The sheriff said it's not unusual for them to not arrest someone for assault. Why do I get the feeling if I choke slammed someone in a waffle house in Montana my ass would be sitting in a jail cell that night?

I don't think every single person working for Fox is a pundit with an agenda, I think the guys who witnessed it, the field reporting staff, want the real truth to get out, and want the scoop they witnessed as well.

It's one thing to let your reports report on what they saw. That makes perfect sense. It's another to make it the front page article on your website. Fox News doesn't have to do that, and it's completely under their control.

Better believe if the reporter fought back and whooped his ass tgat aura Ingram would be riding her broom to Fox News as fast as she could.

This statement is right except for this. I have a lot of issues with CNN, but it's definitely news. To say otherwise is nonsense.

Parts of CNN are certainly news, but most of what it (and all cable news) does is punditry. It's talking about the news in an entertaining way. CNN has its team of Trump surrogates on because they create entertaining moments. CNN loves it when clips of Trump surrogates saying dumb shit go viral on Twitter. They will keep doing whatever they can to generate those moments.

Sure, but I mean, CNN still reports new. To dispute that is dumb. They were the ones who first broke the Sessions story today

You never heard the term "low information voters"? Where do you think such people live, if not Montana.

"Low information," not "no information" lol. I doubt anyone living out in the woods disconnected from radio, social media and television completely are voting to begin with.

It's disconcerting the amount of twitter people (not the eggs or the bots), but actual people thinking this is a good thing. Not surprised, but surprised.

These are the same people that were offended by the Colbert joke. Meanwhile physically assaulting someone is something to reward. Bunch of nutjobs.

These are FOX NEWS witnesses here.

At that point, Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him. Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the reporter. As Gianforte moved on top of Jacobs, he began yelling something to the effect of, "I'm sick and tired of this!"

Jacobs scrambled to his knees and said something about his glasses being broken. He asked Faith, Keith and myself for our names. In shock, we did not answer. Jacobs then said he wanted the police called and went to leave. Gianforte looked at the three of us and repeatedly apologized. At that point, I told him and Scanlon, who was now present, that we needed a moment. The men then left.

To be clear, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff's deputies.

Gianforte is going directly to JAIL.

Again, CNN pays these surrogates to come on and defend the indefensible. Lemon isn't challenging anything worthwhile with these quips.

So what? Are they feeding the surrogates lines to say so Lemon can act tough? CNN sets the table. Whether these guys come to diner and say stupid shit is in them

I think if Montana Dems want to get the word out and convince Trump supporting Republicans, they shouldn't emphasize the politician attacking a reporter and that violence is wrong, it's that this guy is unstable and would rather attack a reporter than provide an opinion on the healthcare CBO score.

Even Trump supporters have to question a candidate when they choose donors over their constituents and support a bill that may take away their insurance.

Steve Kornacki made the astute point on MSNBC that 250k absentee (of an expected 400k total) votes have already been received, with who knows how many coming in the next few days. That means even if this moves a 10% swing tomorrow, it could be limited to 30-40% of the electorate
