No doubt. I used to trade in games as a kid. Getting 7 bucks for a game I paid $60 was disheartening, only to see GameStop relabel it and sell for $30.

eBay and Craigslist became things,I started using Gamestop's used prices to determine my own pricing- cutting them out of the loop. But this added to the hassle of offloading the game and collecting the $.

This experience sparked me to change my buying habits, only buy launch games that will keep my attention for much longer their resale value will hold. For all else I simply rent or wait until their digital prices drop- saving money in the process. The abundance of digital games on sale at any moment + the scores of "free" games released monthly usually makes the wait negligible.

The narrative that digital is inherently consumer unfriendly and that the physical ownership is inherently better is pretty tired at this point. I appreciate that more of my $ is going directly to devs/publishers (encouraging future investment) AND I enjoy the convienence AND I actually spend less money annually, yet I play more games than ever.

If I buy digital I practically never buy from my countries marketplace due to the euro pricing. It'd indeed be interesting to see the divide between regions for physical vs digital.
 
I only buy digital. That is because if you have 2 XBOX's, you can use the game on both consoles. I am surprised how many people that own a console don't know this.

You buy game with one account. Login to both consoles to download. The console you will play it on, you make the OTHER the home console. That way other profiles can play the game and play online with it, even when you are logged into to the other.

This alone is reason to not buy disc anymore.

You can run a game at 4k res without having higher res 4k assets. Saying a game is 4k refers to the res, and saying emulated KH2 is 4k is just as true as calling the Witcher 3 4k if they both run at the full resolution.

I think that's what these guys are saying. Rendering a XB1 game at 4k with no new assets is still at 4k.

I didn't know we were only discussion YOUR buying habits.

I thought we were discussing whether or not benefits exists.

1)You don't have to play frisbee with a disc for it to scratch- shit happens. Kids, guests, accidents- anything.

2) Buying a game digitally IS essentially contents insurance in this case... and you don't even have to file a claim!

3) But I thought there were none?

4) so "sometimes" nullifies the entire point? Sometimes shipments arrive late, sometimes they get lost...

also, What about after launch? I can download a game right now, while I'm at work and it's ready to play when I get home.

5) what does being at school have to do with anything? I cut my spending in half, but gamesharing with my brother who's 600miles away.

Just because the benefits don't interest you, doesn't mean there aren't benefits.

This, and I suspect that 15 years from now, I'll be able to play many (all?) of my OG Xbone games on whatever MS offering is out there at that time. Without dusting off a box of old discs if physical drives for consoles even exist then.

5) well that's an advantage in a long distance relationship

6) you're discussing YOUR buying habits now. Trading in is an entire industry, so it still stands as the premier advantage on both lists.

4) yes you leave, buy it, return home, and then wait for it to install the disc and day one patch
5) it works regardless of distance... but yes it is yet another advantage (the things you said didn't exist)

Yes we CAN launch add price to the list of benefits of physical. there ARE a number of benefits to physical, a fact which no one denies.

I'm sorry if you feel burned by your "purchase" of P.T.
The whole DS thing blows- but I do business with companies that actually have a pretty reliable track record with digital.

But the xbox one upscaling to 4k is no different than what your TV would do if you fed it a 1080p signal in the first place. Maybe a little better if you have a shitty TV but I'd say any sony or samsung TV at least will do as good of or better of a job at upscaling.

Even an OG PS4 or Xboxone will be uspcaled to 4k by your TV.
 
My wife has her own Xbox and we frequently play the same games together. This makes all arguments regarding physical moot, since it's cheaper to buy 1 digital copy vs 2 physical ones.

Likewise, I prefer not having a wall of disc cases and the convenience of jumping between games without having to get up is under rated. I still buy the odd physical if it's an incredible deal, but only for single player, 1 off experiences.

I didn't ever own PT. I'm pointing out you are reliant on games always being available for redownload. They won't. More accurately exampled in the quote you skirted over there.

Digital is essentially giving up your rights of ownership for convenience.

You ignored price too.

Eh? Are you sharing a game tag? You can install the same disk on both consoles. Regardless, the ability for a married couple, with 2 xboxes, wanting to play the same game, on two xboxes, at the same time, renders physical media moot? Are you kidding, I really can't tell.

Noise is highly dependent on the RPM of the cooler(s) and the usage of blower design by itself doesn't tell much about how noisy it can be. Most of consumer electronic devices with active cooling are using such blower style coolers these days, some of them are still very quiet.
 
I think after the efforts of the XB1 noise levels some consideration has also gone into the noise profile of the Scorpio. It's bound to be louder though unless they have worked some magic, those type of coolers aren't typically quiet when running high RPM.

If it has a good controller which regulates the speed effectively it could still be mostly quiet though.

My Asus G752 laptop uses the same solution, vapor chamber cooling.
In comparison to my old Alienware it is a lot quieter (7970M vs 980M).

Scorpio is aimed at hardcore gamers, I expect it to have a premium price tag.
For everyone else there's the XB1S, people laughed at Mattick but it seems like that's the strategy MS is employing.

My friend and I do the exact same thing you and your wife do. I'm in Atlanta and he's in Chicago and we've never paid full price for new digital games.

I don't think you are understanding what I'm saying, or maybe not understanding how game sharing works?

My home Xbox is technically 'her' Xbox. I buy all digital games on my account. I can use the game on my physical Xbox because I'm logged into my gamertag when I'm playing them. Likewise, she can download and play the games on 'her' Xbox with her gamer tag because it is technically my 'home' xbox.

For example, the last game I bought day 1 was Battlefield 1. I paid full price digital (minus 10% for EA Access), then we both played multiplayer together. Maybe I could have gotten another 10-15% off at retail with the right preorder incentive, but I would have to buy the game twice. Does this make more sense explaining why physical media just doesn't make sense for me?

That's the Scorpio fan. And it worth repeating that air won't flow to the top as with the One and One S, it will be shoveled to the back of the device. Meaning the system will be fully closed on top (sides might provide airflow in), making it already more silent than a One S.
 
People definitely shouldn't worry about hardware after we've seen what they did with the S. Talking about a big improvement over the first Xbox One. Plus that DF clearly said we will be very happy when they reveal the Scorpio.

I don't believe we should be worried about a fan and noise. I never had that with Xbox One, I never hear my brother about it who has the S. PS4 Pro on the other hand is like a damn jet fighter taking off at his place.

Think you are missing the point, I'm saying that uncommon scenario does not make physical irrelevant.

The most common scenario out there will be one xbox per household.

All these "what ifs" are not going to trump ownership.
 
My friend is in the marines and has been all over the world and his xbox is my "home xbox"
and my xbox is his "home xbox"

It has been awesome, we have bought/played a lot more games the past few years because buying one copy means we can both play, its been an awesome feature
