Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

Now all that's left is to see how it does financially.

On the one hand, the bad rep of the DCEU might drive folks away. Look at how much trepediation folks on Gaf have been showing. Not to mention that it has some stiff competition in the coming weeks.

On the other, I think the public is starving for a good, women centric action movie. The last one we had was, what, Hunger Games? And given that superhero films are the genre in hollywood blockbuster sub-category right now, the pump might be primed for Wonder Woman to shock the world.

It'll be interesting to see either way.
Well... there was that Scar Jo Anime.

I think there is an argument for Fury Road being the last big successful one of the top of my head.

No idea how Shoot Out did.

Yeah, Ant Man was great. I don't get the hate. Personally, it was one of my favorite MCU movies.
Ant-Man is probably in my Top 10 & is one of the more underrated MCU films in my eyes, but let's save the MCU talk for another thread. Here we celebrate the praise that Wonder Woman's getting.

Lego Batman is going to be always forgotten, because its animated. Nobody counts the other great animated movies and the Miles Morales movie will have the same fate.

On a recent episode of the Schmoes Know show, it was revealed that Wonder Woman may be a big mess. According to host Sasha Perl-Raver, someone with insider info has seen the movie, or at least a decent chunk of the movie, and claims that it is "discombobulated" and not the great movie the trailers have led fans to believe it might be. Here is what was said by Sasha Perl-Raver on the Schmoes Know show:

Edit: Video with Timestamp

Surprising to no one, eh GAF?

Hah, that's pretty funny.

Apologies for misremembering it as ScreenJunkies. Of Course it was Schmoes/Collider News

And of course, that video no longer exists.

Someone on my twitter liked that Stuckmann review, so I decided to give it a gander and see why he's so hated around these parts. Literally 2 minutes in and he's already said he's glad Wonder Woman isn't "flawless like Rey" and the movie isn't like Ghostbusters where "for the entire time I'm just reminded how horrible I am because I'm a man."

I don't think he's a bad person.

He is dumb as a brick, though.

It was mentioned earlier, but if WB truly wants to separate DC from Marvel, maybe they should go all in on a mostly woman-centric universe. They've already got Batgirl cooking, along with Sirens and SS 2. And we know Wonder Woman 2 is probably going to be announced within the next month.

Go for broke. Bump Hal and them and have Jessica Cruz be the lead GL. Get Zatanna and Vixen popping in solo features. Have a Titans movie centered on Starfire and Raven. Have a Black Canary and Green Arrow movie where Dianh gets top billing.

Probably a pipe dream, but would be great to see.

That would never happen lol. Especially when we haven't even seen how profitable Wonder Woman is going to be. Wonder Woman isn't a good movie because it's a female superhero movie.

For someone who doesn't care to watch the other DC movies from Man of Steel onward, do I HAVE to watch Batman vs. Superman to appreciate this movie?

I want to support this film more so than any of the last three DC movies but I don't want to be lost.

I'm too lazy to find the old thread about the anonymous open letter to Warner Bros. But that one was a doozy.

Not really. 99% of it is stand alone.

Nope, this is set far before anything in the DCEU.

No, it's an origin story

Don't watch BVS,
Don't watch Suicide Squad.

All that is left is for Thor Ragnarok to lift the shame off the franchise and for Ben to lift the burden GAF has placed on him.

From the looks of it, Wonder Woman looks to stand on its own as a movie without much need to see the other DCEU films. The fact that this movie takes place far in the past (during World War I) also helps with that.

Remember that letter from a "former WB employee" that called WW a mess and everyone believed it because they agreed with the rant about WB. Good times, good times.

No, but wouldn't hurt to watch the UC cut of BvS to form your own opinion on it. Sure many hate it, but there are dozens of us that like it!

It takes place 100 years before BvS so not really. If anything, I mean... (sorta spoiler, but not really?)
BvS is kinda the closure to Diana's arc in this movie.

No, but that's exactly how studios look at these sorts of things.

Maybe not as drastic as what I suggest, but I can definitely see some suits instructing the DC brain trust to give a second look to at least one female character off the back of Wonder Woman providing its successful.

Let Patty direct the solo Batman pls

Hell...No

Matt Reeves done gave us the best non-Fury Road blockbuster since The Dark Knight. War for the Apes will likely be the best franchise movie this summer too.

this sounds like a pretty good comic book movie. and if anything judging by the content of these reviews she's more suited to take on Man of Steel 2 tbh.

That whole thing is bullshit, though.

She talked about knowing a person that knew about BvS being shitty since they had insider info, and the same person told her the same thing about Wonder Woman, which she said "broke her effing heart" because she wanted to movie to be good.

Like I said in that thread when it got bumped recently, people took that tiny exhange way out of proportion and made it into something it wasn't, like if she herself was saying the movie sucked or something.

They've already greenlit Batgirl and GCS. And are already talking about a WW sequel.
