Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

I've got a dish ready for whenever you're hungry, GAF :D

I'm having my meal right now.

I love Marvel's female superheroes.................except Captain Marvel. I think I'm more excited for that Black Cat/Silver Sable movie that will probably never get made.

They're going to take the name and design of Captain Marvel and apply it to a complete new origin, played by Brie freaking Larson.

And then once it's a hit, which it will be, Marvel will likely change the comic version of Carol to fit.

you don't even know Captain Marvel - she will have almost nothing in common with the awful person in Civil War II

So I just want to make sure we're all in agreement here:

Wonder Woman could (and hopefully will) over-perform at the box office, but based on basic logic and reasoning, we all understand it has absolutely no chance at $1 billion, right?

It's amusing watching everyone be like "It's good?!?!?" after we just had about a week of critics, comics creators, and regular folk (including some on this very website) all saying "It's good, y'all."

Was everyone expecting people to just suddenly decide it's shit when it came time to write their reviews?

To be fair, I can understand the apprehension there. When BvS was coming out, we had the latter two of those three groups saying the same things.

I don't see it. Is she popular overseas?

Its not even starting in China and Wonder Woman is not that much known outside of UK and the US (Yes, some people here dont agree, I dont care), so I would say 1 billion is way out of reach. Maybe 700 million.

They didn't wanna believe Greg Rucka.

I just assumed this would suck - guess I was wrong. Will see this next week.

Gadot seemed a little awkward as WW in BvS but it seems that she nailed the performance this time.

$700 is my new estimate based on these reviews. My prediction has been going a bit low but when word spreads, I think that will lead to it overperforming.

Yeah, if that's the case no way it has a chance.

I think I am going to stick with 600-700 million and hope for 700+.
I have no idea how people will react to female lead superhero movies, even when the quality is good.

I'm blaming that entirely on the direction given in BvS.

The Star Wars prequels showed that even amazing, Oscar-winning actors, when given crummy dialogue and direction, can't do much with it. WW in BvS really doesn't have much to do other than be a very forced cameo and blunt tease for the rest of the Justice League. She pops up, gets a few action scenes, but isn't integral to the narrative. She never had a chance to do anything more meaningful in that film.

Yep. And Captain Marvel will perform in accordance to the rest of the MCU unless it's an unmitigated disaster.
I expect both to end up somewhere between 500 and 700 million worlwide, and that's good news for everyone.

- "Best DC movie since The Dark Knight"

- Gal Gadot's performance being praised as a highlight

- Higher RT score than Guradians of the Galaxy 2 and the GOAT Thor 2: The Dark World

Cue the bet you didn't see this coming gif.
Fuck this shit, there's no 2, it's Thor World: The Dark Thor World of Thor.

Also Rises came after The Dark Knight.

i'm sticking with my $650 mil guess from the prediction thread, in which i think a lot of people were seriously underestimating the film.

I saw the press preview yesterday and 96% on Rt is absurd.
The movie is just average, with a kitsch and stupid ending, a weak villain and very bad special effects.
I think the positive reviews, as happened with Ghostbusters last year, are more dependent on "gender" (female movie star + female director) than by its actual quality.

Guess we can't really have a Wonder Woman thread without the whole, 'Totally unknown character outside US' nonsense lol. It's the circle of life, I suppose.

Oh, first one to bring PC is the reason this movie is rated well. Maybe your opinion is in the minority, ever thought of that?

Y'know, considering that you're the only one to bring up her gender as a mark for or against the quality, I think that your review might be influenced by it more than theirs.

Just Stop...

No, cause most of the Italian moviesites reviews claim that the movie is enjoyable but absolutely not a masterpiece. RT does not aggregate my country reviews but only Americans or in english/spanish language.
96% is better than Dark Knight, LOL.
You'll see.

Reviews are still coming in but people I trust loved it so I'm happy. But like all movies lately,. I might just wait for Blu-ray.
