That's not how the burden of proof works.

Plus, nobody says he's lying. He only said a "trusted source". Assuming the source is legitimate, that could be anyone within the internal supply chain. It's not indicative of anything and we don't know what it is based on.

Similarly, just saying that something is "amazing" tells us nothing. I'm sure it is—but it's subjective. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, of course but as a result, it's a statement that offers very little value without context.

Okay...Cool

*shrugs*

Don't you guys think it would be a good idea if MS asked gamers which franchise they really want to see returning from the original Xbox or a brand new IP and then ask what genre?

No opinion on the former. Absolutely not for the latter.

Why not though? It might mean we get something a lot of want to actually play and it will actually sell too. Unlike SO sadly.

Yeah, speaking of which

There is going to be a separate thread for leaks right ?
I hate leaks when E3 is just around the corner.
I hate not being able to resist checking tbh.

This! If it leaks and there's gonna be a thread for it I can easily avoid it and just only check this thread. I would want to just take a break from visiting here daily until E3 has begun but I know I will check here anyway.

Nah, Thats not how 'anonymous sources' work. The "reporter" trusts the source due to their position and track record. Then listeners trust to reporter due to his/her track record.

How do you know it's not? I mean Rand is pretty legit when it comes to stuff like this. He's not known to flat out lie about shit. I'll take his word on it until proven otherwise.

That's good to know though. Much better than just some guy on YouTube claiming stuff and you just have no idea if it's just him speculating or hyping shit up. So Rand is a pretty big Crackdown fan?

Well if anything, they will put in every effort to make that game amazing because of the tech its built on.

Its the first game to use Cloudgine, and since this will be purchasable middleware, this game will be an advert for it.

I have no idea. He's a big fan of games in general and is tight with Jez.

They do youtube vids quite a bit.

It was funny last week he got a PS4 Pro and Jez tweeted (jokingly) TRAITOR! And Mike Ybarra twitted to Jez that games are good for everyone not knowing they were friends and Jez was joking. Kind of cool of Mike defending someone getting a PlayStation.

That's cool indeed man. So it's possible his source was actually Jez. That would be quite nice. And yeah at the end of the day it's nothing but games and we all enjoy them. Just because Xbox is my console of choice doesn't mean i can't go out and buy a PS4. Sadly plenty of people don't think that way, ah well.

Which reminds me, I think I read this on Reddit but apparently Phil Spencer received a CE of Horizon from Sony. Cool stuff!

Yeah but what is the source telling us? There's no substance here. We already know the game is amazing.

I should say, I have zero doubt this game will be fantastic. I've seen tech demos of it and—I agree—it does look incredible. It's exactly what I wanted to see Thunderhead being used for and I'm thrilled it's finally happening.

The point I'm trying to make is in regard to the newsworthiness (or lack thereof) given to a "source" which tells us nothing we don't already know.

Even though it's likely not happening I'd like to have the same kind of destruction the MP has in the SP too. I mean look at Red Faction Guerilla, it did that very well and was a lot of fun in the story mode too.

I actually wonder if the game will have a single player component. I'd quite like a Destiny-style online world with a shared campaign embedded within it.

Depends. Last year we did have a separate threads by there were also posters who were taking it into their own hands and creating separate threads for the leaked info

And yet when you think it can't get more extreme.... here we are.

You can't be serious. No reason? There's not a possibility that Crackdown, SoD2 and Sea of Thieves turn out to be really damn good? Or what about games likes Forza? Quality games. There are people like that Halo and Gears, no reason to own the console?

And then of course the reason that all of a sudden doesn't seem important anymore, Scorpio soon being the console that will have multiplats at their best. Come on now.
Or that the entire lineup of great games they already delivered no longer exists.

I think MS has been stuck in this mentality that every game needs to have some sort of service model built into it- and a traditional RPG doesn't lend itself well to that and they haven't had much luck lately with their single player focused games.

I think they need rethink that mentality. And aim for diversity in their models.
I mean you can take a look at how Rime sold on the store versus Friday the 13th. A broken multiplayer game absolutely crushed every other game on the digital store. It probably would've done the same thing at retail too. That's the kinda game that MS will be trying to emulate. That's what Fable Legends could have been, if it actually had gotten finished in a timely manner

They may make Fable but it wouldn't be a purely SP experience. It probably would have a heavy emphasis on campaign co-op

Microsoft has to do something extraordinary, cause at this point there is no reason to own their console. Nintendo & Sony are in better positions to sell people shit.
Even if you don't buy a single MS game, you'll still be getting the best versions of multiplats on Scorpio.

LOL

So your angle is you believe it's amazing, but think the source isn't newsworthy. Would you feel better if you got credit for it.

The announcement trailer teases at some destructability for SP too. And they use the same physics code locally and on the cloud to switch from one to another on the fly.

So in theory they should be doable if they can guarantee that the SP physics calculation never go above the local budget. Which could be done by paring the level of detail back in sp.

How do you know it's not? I mean Rand is pretty legit when it comes to stuff like this. He's not known to flat out lie about shit. I'll take his word on it until proven otherwise.
I don't know him, but c'mon, it's Crackdown 3,by the original creator and with a bigger budget and time of production than even the first one had.

How can it not be awesome? He shouldn't have to need an Insider to tell us that.

LOL

Credit for what? Never said the source wasn't newsworthy. I said the "news" wasn't newsworthy.

I don't think there has been a mentality shift at MS for a while now. It's just that service games are what you need to truly be commericially successful at this point in time.

To me, MS has always had this mentality of providing first party games but that are also commercial successes. I assume this is partly due to how massive Halo was sales wise. So if you look back throughout the gens, they've always kept the successful IPs and put the other ones in the vault. This is a different tactic than the one Sony employs, who release a ton of games that are not very successful commercially. And Nintendo is in their own unique place as well because they both have huge successful IPs and then pad their portfolio out with smaller stuff.

So I think the issue MS has run into this gen is that their money maker IPs such Halo and Gears are not as big as they used to be. So they can't allevaite the commercial failures of titles like Sunset.

Hopefully. My worst fear is that developers don't really push the system, like many are doing with PS4 Pro.
It's all about how much work it is to push the system. That's one of the reasons Ms was so adamant to make it so everything you can do with xbone runs just so much better on Scorpio without any further optimization.

They said how it was important to make a system that for current gen games just by porting it would instantly get you to 4k to some room to spare. At that point instead of trying to optimize to get the performance needed for the desired res you optimize only your new effects to improve the game even further visually.

We also don't know how easy Sony makes or not to support new assets and effects alongside both versions. From the design of the hardware we can tell that their goal was for the extra memory and gpu resources to be used for checkerboard 4k,with a CPU upclock to provide smoother framerates. Ms on the other hand is focusing on 4k with extra effects and assets, and already offers a very nice environments to handle many targets at once. Of course that's not every dev makes use of and thus for some might be tougher to support...

Oh it definitely has one. There is one podcast where they talk about the game and it's solely about what they put in the campaign. No idea how old that podcast is though. But from what I understand Is that the MP part has been finished for a while now and the game got delayed for the SP.

Or that the entire lineup of great games they already delivered no longer exists.

That too. I definitely feel the Doom and gloom about Xbox here reaches extreme levels at times.

It would be fantastic if it has the same destruction as that footage they showed but that would also mean you can pretty much level any building to the ground and you basically ruin the story mode for yourself then because I doubt these buildings will automatically restore themselves. But some kind of destruction is needed for sure.

Lack of power can't be the problem anymore with Scorpio.

We know that the source, who's opinion this guy trusts, thinks the game is amazing. So anyone who has confidence in this guys reporting has reason to be excited.

My issue with it all is that MS has been quite obviously trying to "emulate" what other games are doing, and the result is designs, mechanics, and features that feel shoehorned in rather than organic extensions to their franchise. The trajectory of the fable ip is a monument to that sin. We got a fable Kinect game, Then we got f2p brawler- both attempts to chase trends rather than play to the series strengths. We see similar things happening to MS' other core franchises with halo's gameplay mechanics being the next biggest victim, imo.

I just wish MS would go back to making games that stand out instead of trying to make them fit in.

Not really needed. Halo and Gears how they are now are still one of a kind in the shooter genre for example.

I don't know if Microsoft will do two online only games seeing as sea of thieves is coming as well. I feel like there would be some insane backlash as well. People are still touchy about Xbox and required online. I'm curious to see if it hurts sea of thieves. I personally would love for it to be an open world destiny type MMO lite. Well actually I'd prefer a hub world to an open world.

Not really needed. Halo and Gears how they are now are still one of a kind in the shooter genre for example.

Sure they are still have unique traits. But they've also made conscious efforts to converge with industry trends in key areas... to a fault imo.

Not sure if it would work, but my first impulse would be to have some unimportant destructible buildings in the game, that you can use like they did on the trailer or just level competely if you wanted, but not destriy the entire city to the point that you can easily kill your targets.

Though, it's supposed to have a nemesis system like now where new enemies can rise against you so I dunno how that would work too.

Maybe we can blow chunks out of buildings and completely ruin certain walls and structures but not fully level buildings. Or in certain missions make some buildings completely destructible so that you can blow a building with a baddy on top or inside it to smithereens.

I'm also excited about the game world. In that podcast they spoke about how the city really comes to life with all the lights and how there are plenty of places that have their own unique look, identity and detail. I love a nicely detailed city in gaming and I can't wait to see what they made here.

I bet that there are still plenty of people that would give you a weird face when you mention Crackdown and have no idea what you're talking about. It's those kind of gamers that MS really needs to attract too. A impressive E3 showing is very important here. It has the potential to get much more fans than it has before. Especially in a time where the only other open world game releasing is AC.

I hope they have a few surprises this year and I surely hope that the whole conference doesnt leak again because after that it was sooo boring to watch sadly.

Yeah but I just mean a campaign in an online-only world, like The Division.

We know that the source, who's opinion this guy trusts, thinks the game is amazing. So anyone who has confidence in this guys reporting has reason to be excited.

But someone thinking that this game is amazing is not in itself news—you can't pass off someone's subjective opinion as a scoop!

Scorpio $499
Kinect 3
MS announcing acquiring a 3rd party company
Battle Toads
Capcom Deal
Scorpio Sports

The YouTuber just said he was hyped because a trusted source said the game was amazing.

Then a forum poster said he was hyped, because a youtuber he trusts is confident the game will be amazing based on what he heard from someone who has played it.

If a friend of mine with similar taste in music says he heard a new album and it's amazing... I'm gonna be hyped to hear the album.
