Not on the same level.

They have certain partnerships with indie devs, but they're not making an effort to utilize and/or expand the first party portifolio like they did in the XBLA era.

I'm not talking about indie games. I'm talking about first party games.

Games like Joy Ride Turbo, Fable Heroes, Kinect Party, State of Decay, Motorcross Madness, etc. They did a good job with this in the early XBO era with Max, Kalimba, Project Spark, Killer Instinct, Ori and Spartan Assault/Strike, but it seems to have died down now.

I hope so too.
Well that was kind of my point. They started late with truly funded less than AAA games and the games you mentioned aren't exactly a remarkable portfolio, this gen they are much better already.

And I don't think it died, you mentioned State of Decay which is not truly 1st party (they don't own the IP nor the studio) and Cuphead and Ashen are similar investments.

They closed some studios they acquired for smaller games but those studios were also stumbling with their outputs, so it's likely that was the reason for closing them rather than not caring about smaller games now.

The studios that made Kinect games were repurposed to hololens games before the generation started and when they decided that hololens no longer would be xbone's kinect late add on they were also in a tough spot.

Huh? They do own the State of Decay IP. It's different from Cuphead and Ashen.

I disagree with you on the reasons for why the smaller studios were shut down, but the end result is the same either way. They've got no lower scale games on the horizon atm. Hopefully this E3 will change that, though. I'm hoping for a follow-up to Ori.

They do own State of Decay and the studio is in a contract to produce three games going forward not including State of Decay 1.

YEah. Undead labs for the next few years is essentially acting as a first party studio. You could get a sequel to SoD2 and a new IP franchise out of them.

I'd love to get on board.

More than 90 minutes has me hyped!

Hello can you add me to the train please? I would love to be part of it

They need to stop trolling this Banjo stuff if it isn't happening. And by happening I mean an actual 'AAA' platformer and not some BS token mention in something.

I wouldn't be surprised if their third game is a new ip, they have talked about their games not being focused on zombies but fantasy driven simulated open worlds. If it's being made under contract then that IP would be owned by Microsoft which would give even more reasons for Undead labs to stay on working with MS on the sequel to the new IP. That's if they haven't already bought them by then which could be a likely scenario. So for now they act as a first party studio.

Oh sorry, I looked here before saying it: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/intellectualproperty/trademarks/en-us.aspx

But I guess I just goofed as it's listed there too.

As for the studio closures take for instance Press Play, they had a launch game in 2013, a side project even smaller game the next year, and was closed in 2016, only months before letting the gamers decide which game they should do next, so after a 3 year hiatus without going anywhere with the games they had in development.

This isn't funny. :(

If they're really only working on Sea of Thieves I wish they'd just stay away from anything that could be taken as a hint for a new Banjo-Kazooie. : / At least when we're literally days away from E3.
There's no way they don't announce a new Banjo after all this teasing. Right guys? Right?

One ticket for the Scorpio Hype Train please! I'm so happy to hear it's gonna be a little longer than 90 mins. MS is gonna kill it this year, I just know it! Can't fucking wait!! :D

Like last time, where they were presenting the actual fucking "broken Banjo"? I think it is a horrible strategy to play with the hearts of Banjo fans so much, but I expect them to do absolutely nothing with Banjo once more. Though my hopes are incontrollably in the sky already, so I will devastated once more.

Rare is really showing how out of touch they are. I mean, I expect this kind of shit from Microsoft, but Rare has been through more than enough to know exactly what their fanbase is like. This is just so fucking embarrassing.
