And for those saying it was crickets after he announced the price, it was about 2 seconds and people applauded. It was not instant, but it was roughly 2 seconds after he stopped talking to people clapping. Would not call that crickets, but like anything opinions vary. Not defending the price or anything, but I think some embellish a little bit when it comes to things like this.
I kind of thought same thing, then I watched Sony announce PS4 price. The crowd erupts in applause immediately. Applaude for Microsoft felt like an APPLAUSE sign reaction.

More RAM, a more advanced cooling system, higher clocked parts, a 4K drive, all of these things add up, even a year later.

Whatever the final price is, it costs a fair bit more to build than the Pro did.
Agreed. I think they can swing $400.00, but it will be at a lost as compared to PS4 PRO...but again.MS is in a predicament here whatever they do.....They really need this device to take off...

Thing is, if they price it at $400.00 dollars and eat some of that cost, Sony can simply discount the PRO to $349 or $299 with maybe a PS4 slim at $249.99...One thing is sure, MS can't go below $400.00 on the Scorpio for financial reasons and yet they can't go too high over 400.00 for fear of the console staying on shelves......

It all falls back to one thing now innit, it has to be about the games.....MS has to convince a huge chunk of gamers that the games they will show at E3 are must haves, their games showing has to be even better than the hardware showing tbh...I'm not sure SOT, Halo 5, Crackdown, Halo MCC remastered, Forza remastered, Forza Horizon and Gears remastered are going to cut it....They need some exclsuives in the vein of OG XBOX with Ninja Gaiden, DOA, and all those Sega games....

Hey, I loved the specced up XB like anyone here, the oodles of ram, the higher clocks, a bit disappointed that they couldn't put in a zen CPU, but as it is...I think people should temper their expectations just a bit....I think they will have better looking multiplats now, but the difference won't be like XB1 is to PS4 with PRO vs Scorpio, both will render at resolutions close enough ......1800p vs Native4k in most cases or even 2160CB vs Native to boost performance on the PRO side....This is no where close to 720p at 60fps vs 1080p at 60fps (worse case scenario this gen)......

So yes, I really don't think MS will win back marketshare because of third party software, it will still boil down to their own first party vs the competition respectively...and they will have to invest in some neat genres and push that system for people to take notice...Show us a neat looking exclusive fighter, a neat platformer, a gorgeous open world exclusive....MS needs to come guns blazing on the software tomorrow and I can't wait to see what has been cooking up...My wish is, I hope they focused on Scorpio software just as they did on Scorpio hardware tbh.

A new Mistwalker game would be really really nice! One of my hopes of surprises for tomorrow.

Ow, the edge.

A dev, with some sort of ocassional inside info, offers reasonably typed up posts that don't even serve to tease or leak info in this instance and some posters lose their shit.

It's really quite pathetic.
Wasn't trying to be edgy ... I think I contributed to derail enough.

yes, one

why do you sound so angry?
i remember that console. and that console was priced at $399

still you don't get a 1TB SSD in a $649 console

How do you know what I sound like? I'm not angry, I'm just telling you that you're comparing apples and oranges. I meant $399, not $499, and that just proves my point even more that it's not that ridiculous for MS to charge a pittance for a large HDD.

Why are some of you all still going after Matt? Some of the posters here make it such a hostile environment for exactly the type of poster that we need more of on GAF. It's kind of bizarre really, and super discouraging.

Why? Genuine question. This will be the 3rd and 2nd time we see those games on stage

Because I don't judge conferences based on the number of new surprises they show. I'd rather judge them on the quality of what is shown. We have yet to see gameplay for Crackdown and State of decay, so if that looks exciting and the Scorpio is priced at 399 or 449, then I'll be pleased.

I'm really excited to see what MS have in store. They have been hyping this so much that they MUST have some incredible stuff to show.

And the more aggressive they are the more Sony will have to show the big guns so it benefits everyone. Can't wait for tomorrow.

State of Decay runs like ASS on xbox one, like it drops to zero frames for 5 seconds at a time.

And sea of thieves looks very boring, if it was more like Black Flag it would be interesting

To each his own then i guess. I like the way it looks and plays with what I've had my hands on up until now. It has some work left to be done obviously, but it looks like the perfect game to jump in to hang out and have fun with friends.

I agree. I remember his posts from the big PS4 Pro thread where he was also trying to temper some of the wild expectations (like 5.5TF, better CPU etc).

Same here. But would it actually sell? That's a bit the problem here. And why they probably don't bother with it. At this point I can see Mistwalker appearing but not om MS'stage.

All Microsoft needs to win this year's E3 is a 10 second teaser of Cyberpunk.

#believe

That is something for next year. CDPR confirmed multiple times that this is the year of Gwent.

Again, while I agree that people need to take it down a few notches, unless he's been verified or demonstrated some real proof, skepticism is perfectly fair.

I don't think it works like that. Whatever they have has already been set in stone.

Best case scenario at this point is what, 2 or 3 big, unexpected announcements?

I mean, we probably know close to 80-85% of the conference at this point.

Sea of Thieves
Crackdown 3
State of Decay 2
Forza
Minecraft
Anthem
Assassin's Creed
ID@Xbox + Cuphead/Ashen/Below
Scorpio

Considering a lot of those games are pretty likely to get extended gameplay demos I'd say the majority of the conference is somewhat of a known entity.

That will only amount to 85% if everything takes 10 minutes. There's no reason for any of those segments to run that long except maybe for Crackdown because it's a completely new thing. Even Minecraft that people mention constantly as a guaranteed 10min actually took 5 last year.

Are you guys expecting Japanese games tomorrow.

I would love a ninja gaiden reboot in the vein of ni oh, an exclusive souls like from "fromsoftware" like they did for sony would be neat too. A new mistwalker rpg would be incredible but i definitely dont belive that

Holy shit. I never realized how awkward this moment was, and how bad it went down. I just re-watched and thought "this isn't too bad..." Then I re-watched the eruption after Sony announced the Playstation 4 was going to be $399.

Honestly rewatching that price announcement by Phil and rewatching Sony's is the only thing that makes me feel Scorpio might be $399. I think Phil wants that moment Sony had with the initial price announcement of the PS4.

If we assume a 100-minute conference and 5 minutes per item:

5 mins: Project Scorpio console design, colour, name, price, and release date revealed

5 mins: Sea of Thieves

5 mins: Crackdown 3

5 mins: State of Decay 2

5 mins: Cuphead

5 mins: ID@Xbox (including exclusives like Ashen and normal indie games)

5 mins: Anthem (3rd-party partnership / Bioware)

5 mins: Shadow of War (3rd-party partnership / WB)

5 mins: Assassin's Creed Origins (3rd-party partnership / WB)

5 mins: Minecraft

5 mins: Recore Definitive Edition

That still leave 45 minutes or so? There have to be new surprises in there.

Scorpio probably gonna take 20 to 30 minutes.

I don't give a fug
This line

you won't get a 1TB SSD in a $649 console, when the 1TB HDD sku is just $449
that is my point.

1TB 2.5 inch HDD is a cheap $30 product
1TB SSD? 5 times the price

MS will never fund another big Japanese game. I expect PS4 Japanese games ports and even that is wishful thinking.

Let an old man have some hopes and dreams ... About sales of such a game: it would be about street credit less about sales. Sometimes you have to take a risk to cater the niches.

don't you deflate my hype with your facts and logic

Phil Spencer and Major Nelson just had an interview today where they said they want the conference to be all about the games. No way will they spend 30 minutes talking about Scorpio.
They have to deliver after boasting about all the games they are fitting into the show in that podcast.

I guess you are right 30 minutes is too much, but I do expect them to talk about it for at least more than 10 minutes.

I would have guessed based on it being a 'premium' console and the higher specs that it would be $499; MS wants to make money on it and they could probably get away with it at that price tbh. However, after that robot advert teaser, they HAVE to launch it at $399 or less, otherwise what would be the point of having a teaser? To create hype for the conference? Out of all the conferences, this is probably the one that has the most excitement levels already.

Not really necessary though is it? They did all the specs early with DF. They need to show the box, the name, price and launch date. I'd wager they cover that all in under 10 minutes.

Also excited about Lindelof?
