I spent $500 on my Xbox One at launch only for that price to plummet within a year. That left a bad taste in my mouth. Anything above $400 is going to give me pause but I suppose it will all depend on what Microsoft has to show me today to justify that price tag.

I was likely not getting one anyways, even at $399, unless they really kill it on the games front. At $499, my chances of getting it are nearly zero if all their games continue to come to the original Xbox One.

It could be to make people believe they are getting a sweet deal for $399 because it was "leaked" at being $499.

There were a couple sales but nothing widespread.

I thought for sure Sony would drop the Pro to $349 and add bundled games for a counter to Scorpio but they may not even need to do that if $499 is the price.

I bet Sony would still do a $349 Pro with pack-in for the Holiday season.

Good. This makes it more likely that nextgen (PS5/Xbox Two) will also be above 399, which could mean more room for better specs, for example higher frequencies with better cooling. They can still lower the price at a later point.

Damn, that reminds me of the PS3. Didn't that thing cost $1000 a piece to manufacturer at launch? I understand packing in a lot of tech and wanting to get consumers to buy their product, but I would personally want to always be able to profit similar to Nintendo if I were in their shoes. They're really gonna have to pump out first party after first party titles to make up for it. Luckily Scorpio won't do anywhere near as good as the base model.
