Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

I must say this thread is turning out to be pretty hilarious. Hell people, even if what Geoff heard was $499, MS can change the price at the last minute.
LOL! You think after the months and years of planning MS can suddenly decide right before the reveal that they can lop $100 off the price just like that?

The core and casual market will just look at the price on Amazon or best buy. They don't watch, even know, e3 is going on.

That isn't true though. This rumor is already getting reported on by mainstream sites - whose casual users will see this, assume that's the price, and move on, because this isn't in their price range.

It's a completely unnecessary gambit that sounds cool in theory but nobody should reasonably expect.

If it was 499 CAD,I would grab one for sure but man...I wanted to go full 4K around November to go along with Scorpio, this means new HDTV and A/V Receiver also, but if Scorpio is like 650 before tax CAD,not sure anymore...we shall see in a few hours I guess.

Tu vas t'en passer popa.

Geoff, can you post a selfie of you reading this thread? That would be legen ------wait for it ---------

Geoff is the last person in the industry who would leak something like this, he has absolutely no reason to do so.

In fact, it would hurt his relationship with Microsoft immeasurably.

Chill out, man.

Why else go through the hassle of building a PC if you're not going to make it better than the more convenient console experience? I just can't imagine anyone saying they want to do 4K gaming and also settle for low fidelity. I've never met that person and can't imagine the mental gymnastics they'd have to do to make it a logical purchasing decision, but to each their own.

The same mental gymnastics pro and Scorpio owners, surely.

There's definitely been times in the past where you hear stories about executives deciding the price right before a conference.

Today is Father's Day. I don't think the "non-hardcore" ever hear about the pre-show rumors to begin with. They just see a new system for $399, which is the most they were going to pay for a new system in respectable numbers anyway. The only people a deliberate misdirect could impact are the people who are paying attention... who are already mostly expecting that. The whole thing is just too dumb and purposeless for somebody to stake their reputation on it.

Um... Next Week is Fathers day, you damn well near gave me a heart attack when I first read that.

Yeap...

How are the chances to somebody rehearsed the fake $499 price dozen of times and at the live show with big audience, fucking nervous he says by mistake the fake rehearsed price instead the real one?

You do rehearsing to not make mistake at the big live time... that is why you use the final script words.
There will be a big screen saying the price. Even if $499 is mentioned, it will quickly be corrected. Anyway, just speculation from me :)

If the price is meant to be a secret until the actual conference, for sure.
Too many risk for a screwup. Someone not changing it at the teleprompter. The guy presenting having the wrong price in his head from rehearsal. Slide not changed and showing something different from what is said on stage.

You rehearse for a reason, so make sure it doesn't go wrong. Rehearsing with fake stuff would put that in danger.

It could be the case, but the probability for it is very, very low.

Maybe they just did it on purpose so people who leak the price would be wrong. And also see who could be a leaker :)

I don't think any reasonable company would do that though.

They've already gotten a lot of (negative) coverage on this rumored price, turning off potential consumers over a fake price (some of whom might tune out of even watching the conference because of it) and creating lingering confusion, for what? An applause moment at a conference?

Do you not remember when Sony did it? They could of sent out a press release that the PS4 was gonna be nothing like the Xbox One when it came to used games, bundled cameras, always online, etc but they waited and let those rumors swirl until E3 to give people that moment and now look at where the PS4 is today. It all started from that E3, so don't underestimate those moments because it generates hype and hype generates word of mouth and word of mouth is the best marketing tool ever created.

Has no one realized yet that Geoff used the same password for Twitter and NeoGAF? It's obvious his accounts were hacked and it's not him.

WAKE UP SHEEPLE

I thought Geoff admitted that he overheard Microsoft rehearsing the price as $499?

That means that he leaked it. And admitted to leaking. Am I misunderstanding what you are saying though?

Well, it's certainly not realistic but an extremely negative reaction could make them backpeddle a bit.

More likely scenario is that they leaked wrong price to Geoff on purpose and then they can go $399-$449 and maybe have $49@ premium SKU with a game and 2TB drive or something.

$499... basically charging an early adopter premium, Later dropped to $399. Basic profit maximization.

You have to understand that at a very young age, Sony was able to assume power. A lot of people, I'm sure, tried to take that power away, whether it was Sega, Nintendo or anybody else. And Sony was able to do it. So obviously, Sony is a pretty smart cookie.

But we have a situation that we just cannot let — we cannot let what's been going on for a long period of years continue.

We must take down Sony

There is a big difference between "Sony stayed quiet several months and then dropped the bomb" and "MS deliberately used a rehearsal to circulate a fake price a couple of hours before their big conference to set up a reveal for the better price."

So if they use placeholder/fake price points, do they use placeholder games during rehearsals too? Lol

"Next up is so and so from Bioware with Sesame Street 123"

Maybe $499 isn't so bad, if you think of it in this way.

Nintendo recently launched the Switch for $299 in March. In docked / home console mode, it does ~393 GFlops.

Scorpio is 15 times more powerful ( 6000 GFlops = 6 TFlops ) and might cost $499.

That comparison is meaningless, I know, yet just a way to think about things, heh.

This isn't how people determine value in the real world.

It's why a $599 PS3 was seen as a joke, even though the average Blu-ray player at the time retailed for around $1000.

Some, I assume, are good people.

Did you miss the teaser video with the hidden image tag that leads to $399? Why did you think they did that so elaborately?
So what you're saying is that MS already revealed the price themselves but are going through all of this bullshit just to reveal it as as surprise

You guys are officially insane

this thread is gonna be so fucking good to look back on if the $499 price point is true

For those who can't get a second job to pay for the $499 statting price for Xbox Scorpio, we have a console just for you; it's called Xbox One S..
