Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

It's more Assassins Creed, but with bird drones and pyramid sliding. At this point, Assassins Creed is just in that CoD rut of being the old reliable game franchise. Both games are still relatively the same and unchanged. They can go forward thru time and still not change up much of the core gameplay. And now they think going back in time (Egypt for AC and WWII for CoD) will rejuvenate interest. But it's just a new coat of paint.
The demo showed it to have the most diverse areas and setting in any game, new navigation, new combat, and a loot system. Those are all pretty significant changes.

They sort of made their own grave by making the series annual but I don't think it just looks like a new AC a sequel with the same stuff. Just seems overly dismissive.
And you can tell approximately zero of that in what they showed. It looked like every other Assassin's Creed game, but with a skill tree.
You can tell plenty of that from what they showed and it was a short demo.

Not exactly. Here is more info about the game:

All new info: • Started working on game before unity • Brand new fighting system • New A.I. • No minimap but a elder scrolls type compass at top • No more sprinting button, speed depends on analog stick • Crouching is back • Story is being kept a secret • Eagle vision is a subtle pulse that highlights objects not enemies • Takes place during the ascent and reign of cleopatra • You can climb everything in the game • Large and small cities with many landmarks including Memphis and Alexandria • The controllable eagle leak was true • NPC's have a day/night cycle and includes time for them to eat, sleep, work, and "answer the call of nature" • Attack buttons are the right shoulder and trigger • A.I. does not take turns to attack • New combat system is more hit-box driven • As you fight, an adrenaline gauge fills up, and when both attack buttons are pressed powerful attacks are unleashed • Left shoulder button is lock on • There are treasures to find in the depths of the water (sunken ships, long-forgotten ruins) • Stat element of customization is removed • New gear system where players can improve specific parts of your gear by crafting materials • Leveling system that has a level cap of 40 • Bayek is not the only playable character in the game but that character is a secret • There are legendary items to loot in the game • You can add blocked arrows to your inventory • You can no longer one hit enemies that are more powerful than you with your hidden blade • Buttons for free-running up and down are removed • Puzzles are back but more challenging and less switches • Much more in depth ability graph with 3 paths (Seer, Warrior, Hunter) • There are gladiator battles in arenas"
Crouching is BACK baby

I keep seeing on twitter, them playing a ton of old games, seems like they are doing periscopes or something, why aren't they just streaming and recording this? That's exactly what I want from Giant Bomb, and seems like a great idea to pass the time and create some stuff to throw up on the site. Is anyone archiving this stuff at all?

None of that sound like particularly exciting changes to me. But I've been burned out on AC since Black Flag.

That's fair enough! Syndicate rekindled my interest for AC, and this looks and reads like an even bigger step up than that game was.

They're going to be on camera for hours and hours this week. It's probably nice to have a break, especially since these guys don't get to see each other as much anymore.

Ubisoft's show is tomorrow
Okay? Why does that change the fact that it looked like every other game today? Should they have been excited about a franchise they're tired of because the trailer today showed the same old shit but there might be different stuff tomorrow?

The combat looked like For Honor with the over the shoulder camera and dodge/shield parry system. I wonder if you're only going to fight 1-2 enemies at a time.

You clearly don't like the franchise which is a-ok but it absolutely showed a lot of new stuff for that series which you seem unwilling to acknowledge even if it isn't meaningful for you.

I'm only dismissive because the demo failed to impress. I just feel like Assassins Creed is at a point where it needs some kind of Rainbow Six Siege or Resident Evil 7 reinvention to rejuvenate the franchise. But every company needs their consistent money maker I guess.

I just watched the trailer and I can not for the life of me recall fighting alligators underwater or giant snakes. Those just came to mind quickly, but sure yep same shit agenda keep going.

Its shitty but it was also three years ago, which in Internet time might as well be three decades. I wouldn't be surprised if he still held shitty opinions, but also wouldn't be surprised if he made a sharp turn away from that.

Edit because others already posted it. I do agree that people *can* change, this one might not be that example.

Man they were rough on Assassin's Creed.

Does assassins creed deserve the benefit of the doubt after their last three/four games (excluding black flag). game looked fine, but that franchise has got to work its ass off to get out from that grave it buried itself in.

I'm all for statutes of limitations on this stuff, but GG was also one of those events where if it didn't break you of that kind of shit, another three years to think it over probably isn't either. Like, I can't think of any high profile gator repenters, because buying into that shit required a level of blindness you can't really come back from, at least not quickly.

I don't want to keep responding to my passing observation but I expected more of a shrug than the reaction they actually gave. That's all.

I'm pretty sure Ryan was the biggest AC advocate on staff anyways.
