Dragon Ball FighterZ (PC/XB1/PS4, BN/ASW, UE4, early 2018, beta Sum 2017) E3 trailer

Hopefully all this hype gets people interested in checking out Guilty Gear while they wait for the summer beta and retail release.

I have one of the newer Guilty Gear games but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to play.

There seems to be so many different mechanics. Most of my fighting game experiences come from NRS games.

While it is true that the game has a tonne of systems, you really don't need to apply like half of them when you're still learning the game.

Forget about instant guard, roman cancels and stuff and just focus on the pure movement and the fundamentals.

If you have someone who is familiar with the game that you can train with, that would help immensely.

The biggest problem newcomers face with this game is that they get overwhelmed, try to still go online and get decimated and just give up thinking that the game is just too impenetrable. Which is just not the case.

They have very thorough tutorials now, but the best advice is to take it easy. Find a character you like and just learn some very simple combos into knockdown, that will open up a ton for your character, and you can slowly learn the more complicated things as you continue to play.

Don't worry about all the system mechanics right off the bat, they will come naturally to you as you continue to play the game.

The game has really good tutorials it explains everything, there's also character-specific tutorials that explains mechanics unique to them, and basic BnB combos.

That gameplay looks like a dream come true. I'm not sure how I feel about the neutral after every KO but I'm sure there's some practical reasons why it's a good thing.

This may finally dethrone Super Butoden 3.

So I think starting the roster with the Universe 7 team would be a good start for it. Give some references to Super while using all long established characters. So:
Goku
Vegeta
Gohan
Krillin
Piccolo
17
18
Tenshinhan
Roshi
Freeza

So that's ten. Then the major villains:
Cell
Buu
Beerus
Hit
Black

Those last two might be pushing it, but I feel Beerus is a shoe in. So that's 15, now for the rest I'd just like to see:
Yamcha - with some baseball moves
Ginyu - with the Ginyu force as part of the moveset
Gotenks
Mr. Satan
Chi Chi or Bulma or Arale - some kind of unexpected female fighter

That would be a very good 20 imo

Edit: Forgot to separate "teen" and "adult" Gohan, so I'd replace Satan with him.

Better than a 50/50 tbh. Never liked that.

Yeah some really big ones, watch MVC3 some time to see incoming characters get mixed up into a death combos regularly.

KOF doesn't have this issue and neither will DBZ. This is a very good thing for players of all levels.

They're hype to watch but I guess it would be annoying for the player.

It's only hype when the player blocks it and the match continues.

And if it's hype when it DOESN'T work, then there's something wrong.

The will-he/won't-he is anticipatory, so it's already hype right there. Particularly if it's a close match or turns into a come back. You're underselling it by making it completely binary although I understand you're trying to hammer in that it's literally a 50/50 mix-up.

it could be a choice in spending meter or not, maybe if you have meter to spare and want to take the shot then you can? makes sense if so. i do wonder if frieza is just screwed if he has no option, free combo on him after golden form would be a high risk

That's exactly what it is

It's like Sol Badguy's 'Dragon Install' transformation. He gets stupid powerful for a few seconds, but when it wears off he's left wide open.

I really hope that other characters can do the same...like if Goku can go SSJ3 the same way

It might be ridiculous to say, but this might be the fighting game that gets me to finally give them a shot beyond casually playing Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat occasionally.

Saw the gameplay that was posted by various "Anime fighter" youtube pages, and the action that was shown was nothing short of jaw dropping. Really do hope that this succeeds well since I could see this being huge in the fighting game community (or at least just as big as Blazblue, Guilty Gear, or Person 4 Arena).

Ok Google,
Remind me to watch the Metacritic review bomb for putting Golden Frieza in but leaving Super Saiyan Blue out.

what the post above says. Only thing that can be said after all that gameplay.

edit: oh, and, donkey show, you could put all the gifs that you've made of the gameplay videos in one post, for everyone to see. You could do it at the beginning of a page (it would be a ridiculous amount of gifs, sure, but it would be practical for people). If not the gifs themselves, at least links to the posts containing the gifs. Just an idea.

edit2: oh, there's a new thread, i see

From what I can tell, assists don't take extra damage from happy birthdays, and they recover the damage taken over time. And yeah, that Sorbet assist definitely seemed to cost a bar of meter. Also at 2:36, Freeza gets hit by the boomerang effect on his own death saucers wut. Talk about attention to detail from the anime xD

I really can't get over how incredible this game looks. Ever since I saw that Guilty Gear tech, I wanted a game like this for DBZ. But I didn't think it would actually happen!

Can Arc System Works please make a Shonen Jump fighter? It would be so dope . . .

Just a heads up: this game probably won't control like a traditional fighter with stick inputs and such. It will probably control like Tekken or Extreme Butoden

Why do you think this? The gameplay looks very similar to fighting games with traditional stick inputs.

This is the dream game for everyone who liked DBZ as a kid.
I always envisioned Capcom would be a perfect fit for the task. It's a bit ironic that different dev picked it up, but after the seeing the trailer and gameplay footage I don't think Capcom could've done a better job.
It's mindblowing to me how ASC mastered using a 3D engine in such a way to create such amazing, balls to the wall 2D-style animation. The action sequences look better than the actual series.

Yeah the amount of work put into the game from ASW is why I think the roster will be only 22 at most. They do a crazy amount to get this.

Man, I wonder if this tech could be used to make a Dragon Ball fighter with the art style more like the original Dragon Ball style, before it got super straight edged anime looking.

After what I've seen from MvC:I, Capcom seems to have forgotten what made people LL Ike the VS series so much. I realistically could never being myself to skip the new MvC but I see this game overtaking it for me the minute I start playing it. This game looks like what I want out of a Marvel game.
