Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

I couldn't get through more than 3-4 hours of The New Order. Does it pick up or get crazier at some point? It was exceedingly plain at the beginning.

If you're not into it after the hospital stuff (which is immediately following the prologue) you're not going to be into it.

No. More people should play The Evil Within too. It's a survival horror game so that already turns many people off not to mention some of the jank it has. But that game fucking GOES places and the way you upgrade your character really effects how you play the game in a big way.

As much as I enjoyed TEW I really hated that level.

I dug it. It was a nice tweak on the Fallout educational cartoon aesthetic they've developed.

Yeah but that works with the overall feel of fallout. It was kinda jarring at times when they went from a game to that vibe. Especially when they came out of The Evil Within 2. There was some real horror and creep shit going on, and then it's back to the cartoon aesthetic with "Well doesn't that look scary? Here's another game completely different in tone!" But eh, different strokes

. My favorite thing about TEW is how varied the environments are. You get many different kinds of horror and aesthetics all in one game thanks to the plot which is just one twisted mindfuck after another.

For those who enjoyed The Evil Within: Is the season pass worth it at all? Kinda interested to play TEW but is the DLC necessary/important/good?

I haven't played the DLCs but from what I read they are substantial since they flesh out certain details of the plot. The important ones are The Assignment and The Consequence where you play as Kidman.

Sorry for not paying attention here but I'm just getting caught up and not seeing any new podcasts. Don't they usually start posting E3 Day 0, Day 1, etc.? Did they not record one Saturday or Sunday?

From a lore/story perspective, the DLC is vital. It literally explains many, if not most of the dangling plot holes left unsatisfactorily unexplained in the vanilla game.

Goes on sale often so you could wait. Also one DLC episode is mostly an arena shooter and not really part of the plot, but the two story episodes are the epilogue.

I can get that. Definitely didn't always mesh with all the games that they were showing.

Vinny/Ben/Dan
/Austin
DBZ lorecast when

Vinny can't even remember the movie he saw yesterday and Ben doesn't know the difference between SSj3 and 4. This would just be 90 minutes of Dan going "is he Sai yin?" and Austin shaking his head

my new avatar is cute tho

You Philistines contracting The Evil Within to TEW will not change the fact that TEW has and will continue to stand for one game and one game only:

Didn't catch it live last night but I really appreciated the abstract trippiness of the evil within trailer, some really strikingly imagery even if I'm not entirely sure I'll play the game.

Wolfenstein gets points unconventional editing/pacing too, even if a lot of the footage was shooting stuff.

Edit; anyone catch Devolver? Is that worth a watch or should I just seek out trailers

It's worth watching. It's only 15 minutes.

I absolutely hated that conceit. It just ruined the pacing for me. I hate how Ruvik just randomly teleports your character around to different levels that have no cohesion. Mikami obviously came up with a list of environments he wanted to make levels out of, then hastily wrote up a story that would allow him to visit different environments in different time periods to accommodate it. But it just doesn't gel for me. Mansions and villages are fine, but too many of the levels are bland industrial gore factories that remind me of the slog that is The Island chapters in RE4.

The story is actually way more interesting and indepth than you make it out to be, it's just a shame that the execution is not all there in my opinion. There's alot to think about and piece together but the story has many loose ends by the end of it all, however, this did not left me feeling unsatisfied but rather wanting a sequel REAL BAD. The game is also filled with very interesting details concerning the story.

I've came across people who hated the game because it was jarring to them in how it jumped from one environment to the next. In the universe that is set out in The Evil Within, it makes sense but I could totally see why someone would find that jarring or too much. For me though, it kept me on edge and I was always pleasantly surprised. I kept wanting more.
