Android 16 - Otherwise their wouldn't be enough 'tank' characters

Dabura - I don't think they'd resist another stylish sword character
Adult Gohan (Ultimate)
Majin Buu
Kid Buu
Beerus
Hit
Goku Black (SSJR)
Goku (SSJB)
Vegeta (SSJB)
Broly
Bardock

22 characters. 20 considering that SSJB Goku and Vegeta would be clone characters.

The renewed popularity of Android 17 seems unlikely to play into their roster selection, as it seems like they'd have decided on a roster before the return of Android 17 was a thing.

Add 17 and Gotenks and I guess that's a solid 24 character roster.

Not really a budget situation tbh. It's just a lot of manual work that goes into the games hence why the roster is smaller. Sure, the budget is higher but really the manpower is the issue.

ArcSys has never developed a 3 vs 3 fighter before, so it's hard to say either way.
However, given the nature of how they develop their characters, even a roster of 15 - 18 will feel very diverse.

The process for developing characters in Guilty Gear Xrd and BlazBlue is extremely grueling. I doubt the budget is large enough to overcome that mountain.
I do think we'll see more characters than other franchise starters, but asking for more than 20 from ArcSys is asking too much.

Fusions ought to not be distinct characters, but techniques you could use when you have the 2 component characters on the same team. Like it'd cut your team down from 3 to 2 members by doing it but the fusion would be obscenely strong to make up for it.

Not that I expect this to be a thing, of course.

Beerus, Whis, and Golden Frieza all fall into that weird Z/Super uncertainty ...they all appear in Dragon Ball Z movies but also the Super show, so I never know how to classify them. Makes it hard to tell whether their direction for non-Z anime characters will lean more towards the movies or Super, though they could always mix both in with the rest of the cast.
 
They should make a Hunter x Hunter fighting game next with this kind of care for the franchise and attention to detail all wrapped around an awesome fighting game.

This game is everything I've been craving in a Dragon Ball fighting game since Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension, and it'll probably dethrone it as my most played Dragon Ball game. Every new detail, every new mechanic, it's all so good.

You know that wake-up level 3 beam super that Freeza did in one of the other clips?

What if Freeza can only do that while recovering from a knockdown?

But what if there's a way to intentionally set that up via self-inflicted disc attack?

I mean, if we get into unnecessarily nitpicky semantics DragonBall Super renders the Battle of Gods and Ressurection F movies "non-canon" and stuff like Beerus and Golden Frieza are more under the DragonBall Super banner

I just can't see more than 20 characters given ArcSys' process.

That's kind of rough for a 3v3 game, but I guess I'll manage.

So what stages are you guys hoping for? Personally, Roshi's island, Future Trunks's destroyed city, Bababi's Ship, Beerus's planet, Kami's Lookout, and the arena from the U7 vs U6 tournament with the Super Dragonballs floating around are some of my choices.

What i hope is that roman cancels are in the game and you can do the ultimate fake out, hit yourself with discs, do desperation attack, roman cancel, go for grab.

It will be a mostly Z game though hence why it's called "FighterZ" I'm sure. I'd be surprised if we get even 5 Super characters. Honestly, the only Super characters I see us getting on day 1 are Beerus, SSB Goku and SSB Vegeta. Yeah Golden Freeza is in but I'm talking about non-announced characters.
