Folks can't come to terms with the direction of the industry.

The market has already embraced this type of game, this is not some forced direction, this is what people want and what they play and what they spend a ridiculous amount of time and money on. It's been that way for years now, whenever I come to gaming side it looks like Jurassic Park to me. If you go to community side you can see what people are actually constantly playing and engaged with, not that one single player game that comes out and everyone dumps it after two weeks after they're done with it and marketing buzz is over.

Meaning the missions will likely be designed with online play in mind, then "single player" is just you brute forcing your way through co-op missions alone. (A la Division/Destiny)

Yeah, you really can't balance a game for both solo and co-op play. It's either like Destiny where it's just really frustrating/grindy on your own, or it's like Dark Souls where as soon as you summon someone into your game, you just steamroll the game because it wasn't really balanced with co-op in mind. Online is gonna suck if it isn't separate from the single-player. I really hope it is.

Jade is one of the best female protagonists ever created (bare midriff aside) and the whole adventure is a fun romp. It's about 10-20 hours in total so it's worth it. Plus the music is great. The game has aged quite well!

I'll give Ancel the benefit of the doubt, but it really seems like a miscalculation on their part about why the original is so beloved and why fans have been clamoring for a sequel for so many years.

Now that I'm calm the cynicism has start to set in. Pretty much, having it be a prequel with multiplayer is very disappointing but hey, Beyond Good and Evil is still a thing. If this game is successful then the real Beyond Good and Evil 2 may exist one day.
