Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

I have no clue but your post definitely didn't need to be shitty towards someone to state your personal preference.

Dan has talked at length before about how much he liked Gone Home and Firewatch so it's not like it's a stretch. He plays as wide a variety of games as nearly anyone on the staff.

Dude's said he doesn't care for adventure games which LiS leans more towards.

I'm really surprised at the positive reaction to Mario/Rabbids.

It does look pretty dope, but I wasn't expecting the amount of people going "Yeah I need this now". on here, neogaf

On the one hand, I'm glad I decided to go to bed and not stay up until 3 AM for the Sony conference. It was OK, but not sacrificing-my-night-for-it OK.

On the other hand, I'm sad I won't be able to catch the Nintendo presentation live. I'll have to watch it about an hour later, when I get back home. Hopefully I don't get anything spoiled in the meantime :/

Gone Home and Firewatch are both more adventury than LiS. LiS is a bit more focused on mechanics.

I think we know that Dan doesn't know what he will like.

Dan's biggest problem is prejudice. It's something he's admitted himself multiple times, and yet he's done nothing to fix it lol.

Stolen from Marinos twitter, nothing shocking but shows the year and day people came on the night shows.

I feel like there are way less indies being featured this year. It was always a big part of why I liked the Sony presser. MS seemed to be the big pusher for the smaller titles this year.

Watching their Sony conference ... does Dan know anything that isn't wrestling-related?
So I figured this was probably a super tired YouTube comment level critique and listened really hard for them and Dan made a single wrestling reference about Kane when flames shot up on stage over the course of the 2 hour 20 minute+ press conference discussion. That equaled his Louis Malle film references.

Anyways, really enjoyed their Sony video the most of all of them even if the conference was disappointing. I think overall this year might have been the most energy they had and the conferences being spread out probably helped a lot in that regard.

Super excited about real E3 starting tonight.

I'm not going to touch on how you seem to have an innate sense of Dan's internal hypothetical feeling on a game that's not even released but personally I'd be much more interested in someone participating in a series they might not love than wanting whatever grouping would most jive with my own feeling on it. It's literally the appeal of the site for me. It's that concept that the beloved Persona endurance run was established on. Dan's participating in a series he had a pretty negative opinion on that's still running on the site right now.
Funny you bring up Persona since he refuses to play that for arbitrary reasons

So this is Sonys new trend now? Just a bunch of trailers and no talk?

Worked for them last year, not so much this year though. Microsoft was somewhat similar. They had a huge slot with nothing but trailers. I share Jeff's sentiment on this E3 being pretty weak all around. I enjoyed the Ubisoft conference more than any other this year. Which is a weird thing to say.

Anyway, really really trying to give Ben shot, but so far he doesn't feel like a good fit with the west coast crew. Abby is awesome and the east coast crew has become the best section of the site.

It's not really arbitrary when I believe he has only liked one vaguely similar game (FFX) in the past 20 years.

Would you expect random gamer Dean Rycart to want to play a 100 hour JRPG with turn based battles and mountains of text to read if he had that gaming history?

It really needed one big surprise, like a Bloodborne 2 or even a Demon's Souls remaster.

I'll watch the Nintendo thing but I don't expect to be wowed. Nothing really piqued my interested in the Sony show. I think we all knew they couldn't knock it out of the park for another year.

Sony had two surprises. That Spider-Man looks great and Shadow of the Colossus. That's OK. Press conference was high quality all around, but it really lacked a great "WHAT" moment.

Also, Days Gone looks super lame.

still think brad looks like a metal gear villain in their off hours

wow that sony conference was prettttttty meh.

Don't expect much for nintendo but am still going to get up to watch it live because i took a day off and i'm going to take advantage of that god damnit

Probably the weakest E3 I can remember that didn't involve hours of motion garbage.

Plenty of "sure I'll play that sequel that will be fine but not amazing" games.

Rabbids X Mario is the only new thing I'm excited for and even that is mostly because I'm desperate for a switch game and I thought xcom 2 sucked.

Ben scoring a Drew level quip when Dan asked "Did they just Carmen Sandiego the Statue of Liberty?" during the Sony preshow trailer for Tropico.

"We're not really using it anyway..."

Glad I didn't book any time off or cancel social plans for this E3. Except for Devolver/Ubi, that was some weak fucking shit. We're right in the middle of this gen's prime and the results are disappointing. Besides Wolfenstein and XCom Mario, there wasn't anything truly hype-worthy.

I will say, GB remains the best and most authentic place to watch all this coverage. It's all pretty unbearable otherwise.

I watched Ubisoft again and they were the best so far, people that say GB is jaded should watch that.

I loved the moment when all of them said Mario and Rabbids looks "ok" and "good" until Jeff goes all out "this looks amazing" and all of them start loosing up.

They KNOW what it means when Jeff likes something.
