He's full of it as Xbox has and will do this stuff. It sucks. It sucks just as much when Sony does it. It's a garbage practice that both companies should be ashamed of.

No doubt. There was nothing wrong with it when MS had the COD exclusivity for an entire console generation.

Now they're complaining because they have the more powerful console (naturally, it launched a year later), haven't ponied up for the exclusivity, and somehow want us to believe they're surprised everything isn't coming day and date to their system?

What a load of garbage. Regardless of how you feel about timed exclusivity, this is insincere. Phil is, at the end of the day, beholden to his masters, all of whom have now asked him to shit on a practice that made them successful a generation ago.

i think there would not be as much backlash in this thread if Phil used a bit more tact with his words. You don't have to say your not a fan of deals you've personally inked multiple times, including in the past few days. just say you think they are a necessary evil or whatever and you want the best for your ecosystem's consumers blahblahblah, then you don't sound like a hypocrite on top of a liar to folks

Sadly, some people do. They're constantly wanting to have their cake and eat it too (i.e. According to Phil, X has no direct competitors in the true 4k console space bc of it's power advantage but MS admits the only mandate is the output is 4k, framebuffer can be dynamic, checkboarded, or upscaled?)

Instead of showing off big exclusives and new IP, they're WHINING. Not a great strategy for winning a console generation or gaining back mindshare. At $400 or even $450, X would have been a 'buy'. Now it's a pass at 500. No pack in redesigned Elite controller or extras?

He's not lying, he's spinning, it's what people in his position are paid to do.

If tomorrow Bud Light lost their NFL sponsorship, an exec isn't gonna come out lamenting it and saying he wishes they could have it back, he's going to say some shit like "we decided we wanted to let our brand speak for itself going forward, because that's what our consumers what blah blah blah". Their job isn't to be transparent with you, it's to sell you shit.

Yep, just in August of 2016, you could get 10 Fifa Ultimate Team Members, exclusively on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. They did the same thing the year before.

And we have every right to call him on his shit too especially since he's tried to build his image as good guy Phil. This E3 has been pretty eye opening with some of what he's said.

Stance changed because, as you say, it was always PR, but a lot of people never believed that.

Can't he "not" like something but still have to do it to keep up with everyone else...Sony is making these fucking deals left, right and center...publishers and developers can't resist them so what the fuck is MS supposed to do? They are getting trounced in the market and mind share.
