In the other thread Slaythe said he didn't like Goku's intro, but considering its a reference to this and they are going for as many references as possible, I'm totally ok with this

I know it is. That doesn't mean it looks good though.

It stands out because the other intros are jaw dropping. Vegeta's, Cell's, and more importantly, GOHAN's intros leave me speechless.

Goku's is bad for me. I know many people here liked it, but for me it's pretty bad. The base model is off and his aura is obviously "behind" him which breaks the illusion. Poor angles chosen to display his face too which doesn't do justice to the model.

God damn those manga panels.

It's so much better than the events in the anime. Even the new Super manga feels sluggish.

I should really read Dragon Ball.

Despite how well this game captures the visual style of the anime, it simply isn't as faithful to the anime as other games, by virtue of its 2D gameplay mechanics.

Xenoverse's gameplay is faithful to the DBZ anime. DBFZ's gameplay is faithful to the FGC. And as we know, games that cater to the FGC have been pretty niche.

How the fuck can you be not floored by how close to the anime fighter is..

The fact that there are people liking DBZ and not being thrilled by this is insane. But then again people that love DBGT do exist.

This announcement has made me really interested but I'm never watched Dragon Ball, and since I don't wanna read mangas, where do a new one like me jump into the manga, and where I go to watch?

You need to go all in and watch the entire series. It's only right.

That's not faithful to my ass, that's about it.

I suggest watching dragon ball z kai, I don't live in the US so I presume you can watch on Funimation site. If you want to read the manga I'll suggest the 3-in-1 dragon ball, I think there are 15 of them consisting of 3 volumes, it goes through dragon ball and dragon ball z. After those, if you enjoy it you can watch super on Crunchyroll.

Edit: Just read they aren't available where you are, so I suggest the manga or get the blu ray if you can get it cheap.

Nghhhh

Hype gettin to me, i might start watching the new show this week

If you do, visit the Dragon Ball Super OT and read the recommendations on how to catch up.

The beginning of the new series were beyond awful, so it put off a lot of people.

It eventually got better to the point where now it's really really good.

Wait more characters were announced already? And 42 slots? No way it will have that many

That's 20 characters and that's my prediction.
So what's your excuse for having Ginyu in and not 17 ?

17 fought trunks, killed future gohan in the manga, fought all the Z warriors minus Vegeta in the present, and super Piccolo. (not to mention dbSuper)

You know 17 ain't gonna be in the game. You were just worried yourself a few pages ago.

And honestly from a gameplay perspective Ginyu's more diverse than 17. The roster's just going to be too small for 17 tbh. Maybe if this was a 24+ character roster. Since I think it'll be 22 at most that's too little for him.

Except that's a lie ? Outside of a body change which would be a super and ... give you a new moveset from another character, it's not like Ginyu showcased anything special.

While 17 had a lot of great moves (I can repost my gif post if you want) .

I guess the Bluray is the only way yes.

As a Dragon Ball fan for ages, I have no reservations in saying Xenoverse is garbage in comparison to DBF in terms of faithfulness.

I very, very strongly disagree with the idea that Xenoverse is somehow more faithful to Dragon Ball Z. The truth is, most of the combat in Dragon Ball Z moves incredibly quickly, and features a heavy emphasis on deception. The speed is literally imperceptible, at least to the viewer. In order to imitate the combat of the show, you would need a game that allows for blindingly fast movement, and a large varied move-set that allows for a large degree on unpredictability. That is a tall order, obviously, so what you get instead in a game like Xenoverse is something that mimics how the combat looks (but in doing so, is ultimately pretty shallow). I think Dragon Ball Fighter Z does just as good a job of imitating that look, and does a better job of capturing the speed. The only downside (in terms of faithfulness to the source material) is the the constriction of three dimensional movement to two dimensional movement, but that allows the game to feature that increase in speed, control, and a greater emphasis on the deception element (as there are less variables to track, which allows the human mind to adjust at a much quicker speed).

17 is too similar to 18 to have them both in the game if it's a small roster. Ginyu's more diverse from a gameplay perspective. Don't tell me you think if 18 is in the game (and she will be) that 17 is more diverse than a Captain Ginyu. You've seen this man in these DBZ fighting game.

You're letting your love of 17 blind you on this one. It's ok to think he's in the game but I think even you know those chances are low if this will be a smaller roster.

I'm definitely going to take opinion of someone who can declare their new favorite game of all time after an hour of testing at a demo booth.

Game looks cool but this guy sounds delusional.

Normally I'd say you're entirely right.

But then this happened :

So your argument is invalid.

ok, this is good to know. i started super some while back but was just not feeling it, so i dropped it

now with dbf on the way im more than ready to give this another go, especially if they're gonna start incorporating characters and references from the show

Due to character sheets of the confirmed characters being used, it's likely that the below roster from Extreme Butoden will be most of the cast:

SSJ Goku (Confirmed)
SSJ2 Teen Gohan (Confirmed)
Ultimate Gohan
SSJ Vegeta (Confirmed)
SSJ Future Trunks
Piccolo
Krillin
Gotenks

Ginyu
Frieza (Confirmed)
18
Perfect Cell (Confirmed)
Majin Buu (Confirmed)

Credible source says about 20 characters, so my guess would be:

Vegetto
Beerus
Raditz or Nappa?
17
Majin Vegeta?
Kid or Super Buu
Broly

Let's stop the trash talk for a minute and talk seriously. Ok ?

I want to get to the bottom of this.

How is 17 similar to 18, besides looking like her ? Because they do not fight the same way at all, and 18 hasn't showcased a SINGLE thing her brother did. At absolute most, I can think of the Future versions where they threw a beam attack (something the entire cast does), that's about it. So it's assumption by the fans that she can do what 17 can, but that was never shown nor said.

On the other hand, you say Ginyu has more diversity ? How ?

Can you name a single move he did in the show outside of body change ? Or do you have to look at games that basically had to invent his moveset ? In the manga, Ginyu kinda was your typical "hit strong ki blast" dude, the only thing that made him special was the body change.

I guess his silly poses are funny to look at, but it's not like they added anything in the actual fights.

Well, I won't speak for the person you're quoting, but it makes sense to focus on representatives of particular arcs. Not necessarily the best characters, but the ones that cover the entirety of the series.

Ginyu is a good representative of the first part of the Namek saga.

If you're working with a limited roster Android 18 is #1 in representing the Android saga, being the mainstay character that continued into the Buu Saga. Followed by Android 16 as #2. I'd argue Android 17 is #3, if not #4 after Dr. Gero. Ideally you'd have them all, but otherwise I'd pick them in that order.

It's true. 17 is a standout villain in the Dragon Ball Z cannon. He deserves a place at the table. Characters like him, and Yamcha, have a huge amount of potential for a fighting game. You can easily build an identifiable fighting game style for each, and that instantly should give them a huge leg up over the majority of DBZ characters.

The Yamchas and 17s of the Dragon Ball universe are strong picks that deserve priority.

Join me, Slaythe. Why fight against each other when we can combine our powers? Take up the other earring!

This is so amazing, these victory poses, ultra finishes, everything is amazing!

Now, speaking of golden freeza :

is there a player that managed to do an ultra with him? Is it different?

Super DBZ didn't have an issue distinguishing #17 and #18 apart.

The only similarity was their rapid beam attack super.

#17 had an attack called "Rising Sun", which was sorta like Double Flash, but not a blatant copy of it. His lvl3. was his signature Barrier, and that did hella damage.

Actually, looking back, #18 could do that move as well. Forgot about that.

In Legendary Super Warriors, he has a combo called "Crazy Rush". Looks pretty damn vicious and does a ton of damage. That's an RPG game, but still. #18 has a move called "18's Attack" and some other stuff.

#18 would have energy blasts and a Kienzan, but they can definitely give her and #17 unique movesets.
